This friendly chimpanzee offered a friend of mine a hand shake during a visit to the Mendoza zoo in Argentina. I wouldnt recommend shaking hands with chimps though, I believe they are quite strong and could hurt you if they were so inclined. Still, my friend’s folly (thanks Nigel) was my gain in the end. This is one of my favorite images. Hope you like it. Hope it moves you.

Baby sloth- Punta Uva, Costa Rica. The baby had fallen out of the tree and the gardeners found him. They were pushing him around in a wheelbarrow to keep him safe from a large boa constrictor that was roaming the premises. I’m not sure how, but the baby was eventually reunited with his mom… We saw them in a tree together a few days later. Nikon D700 / 105mm / 1/400 sec / f3 / ISO 200

Some amazing structures form in glaciers as they melt. These onse looked especially sharp and dangerous.
This is a ruby red lacewing butterfly, and the way it had it’s proboscis inserted into the flower made me think of that moment when we first get a nice thick milkshake, and we are sucking hard on the straw, fighting against the frozen delight to extract it’s sweet creaminess!
Cart wheel, destroyed. Found in the high mountains near La Paz Nature Preserve, Costa Rica, Central America. Abandoned, but still holding its beauty. Leica V-Lux 1.

This glacier is one of the most impressive attractions in Argentinian Patagonia. The scale of this glacier is quite enormous, and the setting in which it is situated is quite scerene. I personally spent many hours of my holiday watching this immovable hunk of ice as house and car-sized chunks fell off into the lake below. Nature at its best.
