Drawing and digital manipulation. / ‘Polly put the kettle on’ was published in 1797. The origin was the author was watching his children (3girls and 2 boys) play. He observed that when the girls wanted to play without the boys they would pretend to start a game of ‘tea party’.”Polly put the kettle on” and the daughter called Polly would put the toy kettle on! As soon as the brothers left Sukey(Susan) would take it off again! Their father was so amused that he set the words to music and published it as a nursery rhyme! I Think our modern version is Polly get the Tupperware! He he!
This was an entry I did for a prop contest at my friends Yahoo group. The idea was to have a spider (the chosen prop) somewhere in the image. My entry didn’t win… oddly enough.
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (Dutch Lullaby) / by Eugene Field (1850-1895) Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night / Sailed off in a wooden shoe—- / Sailed on a river of crystal light, / Into a sea of dew. / “Where are you going, and what do you wish?” / The old moon asked the three. / “We have come to fish for the herring fish / That live in this beautiful sea; / Nets of silver and gold have we!” / Said Wynken, / Blynken, / And Nod. The old moon laughed and sang a song, / As they rocked in the wooden shoe, / And the wind that sped them all night long / Ruffled the waves of dew. / The little stars were the herring fish / That lived in that beautiful sea-- / “Now cast your nets wherever you wish— / Never afeard are we”; / So cried the stars to the fishermen three: / Wynken, / Blynken, / And Nod. All night long their nets they threw / To the stars in the twinkling foam-- / Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe, / Bringing the fishermen home; / ‘T was all so pretty a sail it seemed / As if it could not be, / And some folks thought ‘t was a dream they ‘d dreamed / Of sailing that beautiful sea— / But I shall name you the fishermen three: / Wynken, / Blynken, / And Nod. Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes, / And Nod is a little head, / And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies / Is a wee one’s trundle-bed. / So shut your eyes while mother sings / Of wonderful sights that be, / And you shall see the beautiful things / As you rock in the misty sea, / Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three: / Wynken, / Blynken, / And Nod.
Amazingly there are 20 species of Magpie in the world. Not quite sure which I have painted here… looks more like an Australian magpie Many people consider them superstitious, they certainly have their place in folklore, some believe they bring good luck, others believe bad. I remember being played Rossini’s Thriving Magpie when I was quite young; it is said they have a panache for shiny, silvery things which they like to steal and hide. / Here the magpie has found a key! I wonder where it came from? I see him as a ‘Keeper of Secrets’. / The selected text comes from a traditional rhyme I was told as a child: One for sorrow, Two for joy, / Three for a girl, Four for a boy, / Five for Silver, Six for Gold / Seven for a secret never to be told This is an acrylic painting on canvas.

I created this image in order to present a video I made for Redbubble artist Claudia Alves as a gift. I consider she has developed a very unique style in digital painting and wanted to celebrate it. / You can see the video here / The music for the video is the song “Love´s lines, angles and rhymes” by the Fifth Dimension _I edited it a bit. Lyrics: / Love’s Lines, Angles, and Rhymes / The 5th Dimension / (Dorothea Joyce) Love leads the lines of love in circles and angles / Love runs deep like a tunnel with a pendulum beat / That touches the heart in many directions / Moving the mind in silent reflection / Of the lines that touch the corners and fibers / Of the feeling that keeps running inside you / Cycles of fears with the longing and tears / Lettin’ out the needs and laughter of / Sunshine, love shine / Touching the fibers of the feeling inside you / Letting out the things you hide / Need leads the lines of love in circles and angles / Need runs deep like a tunnel with a pendulum beat / That touches the heart in many directions / Moving the mind in silent reflection / Of the lines that touch the corners and fibers / Of the feeling that keeps running inside you / Cylinders of hope turning and yearning / Into pendulums of weary hes… / ...itation, contemplation / Of the angles and rhymes and the triangle lines / The feeling touching mine with time / Want leads the lines of love in circles and angles / Want runs deep like a tunnel with a pendulum beat / That touches the heart in many directions / Moving the mind in silent reflection / Of the angles and rhymes of the circles and lines / With the tunnels of love running over / Taking the mind and triangle rhyme / And twisting it to fill the cup of / Sunshine, love shine / Touching the fibers of the feeling inside you / Letting out the things you hide / That touches the heart in many directions / Moving the mind in silent reflection / Of the lines that touch the corners and fibers / Of the feeling that keeps running inside you / Cylinders of hope turning and yearning / Into pendulums of weary hesitation / Taking the line and triangle rhyme and twisting it / To bend the mind in all directions / It’s love and want and need and all those things / Tearing you apart
