  • Saltspring Island, just off Vancouver Island, is a peaceful spot to go to simply enjoy the beauty of the water, the sea birds, and the fir trees. And the Northwest’s plants are in their glory there! This watercolor painting is of one of the very colorful rhododendrons we found there one spring. “Autumn Gold” is its actual name. This image is available for purchase as a print and can be obtained by contacting me through Bmail. Painted on Arches 140 Cold Press, 8”x 12”. I use Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors and a few of Winsor Newton’s.

  • My Secret Garden
    by Marjorie Wallace

    US$4.32–US$30.88

I think we all have some special place that beckons to us and when we see it, we ask ourselves, “What is beyond that door?” This is that place for me. It is not too far from where I live, down this private lane, along the waterfront. I have gone there all seasons of the year and it always calls to me. Perhaps one day, I will go and knock on their door and meet the people who live there and see if the garden is as wonderful as the promise.. That would satisfy my curiosity! / Or then again, maybe not. Maybe I will just let it remain a mystery and keep it perfect in my mind and simply, ” my secret garden…..” I have photographed this scene at most seasons of the year, but I think that Springtime is certainly the very best when the Rhododendrons bloom. In Washington State, the Coastal Rhododendron is our state flower. This hybrid was blooming the end of May. / Nikon D200 AR-S Nikkor 18-55mm Featured GARDEN DESIGN + COLOR & LIGHT ~ April 2009 / Featured HAPPY HAVEN PHOTOGRAPHY ~ 04 May 2009 / Featured A GARDEN SOMEWHERE… 19 May 2009

  • I was amazed to find this perfectly gorgeous Rhododendron at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens. I don’t think I have ever seen one as beautiful as this since. It blooms in May and I must remember to make a special trip to these gardens to see this one blooming again. The unusual ruffled edges with the deep pink colour make this one of my very favorites of all time. / The Rhododendron is the Washington State official flower. / This starts blooming the end of April and blooms well into May. Both species and hybrid rhododendrons (including azaleas) are used extensively as ornamental plants in landscaping in many parts of the world, and many species and cultivars are grown commercially for the nursery trade. Rhododendrons are often valued in landscaping for their structure, size, flowers, and the fact that many of them are evergreen . Azaleas are frequently used around foundations and occasionally as hedges, and many larger-leafed rhododendrons lend themselves well to more informal plantings and woodland gardens, or as specimen plants. In some areas, larger rhododendrons can be pruned to encourage more tree-like form, with some species such as R. arboreum and R. falconeri eventually growing to 10-15 m or more tall. This is what the rhododendron looks like in full bloom. native to the great smoky mountains, millions in this area. it starts to bloom in the 2nd week of june, but it’s at it’s peak the later part of june. / before it starts to bloom its full of tight buds, resembling a avacado, then it each one starts to open, and this is the result / best time to shoot this flower is in low lighting. any other time of day you will pretty much end up with blown/washed out flowers about 100% of the time. / my other shot of the buds is here come the rhodies / if you want an idea of what it looks like before it blooms completely

  • 2008 Copyright. All Rights Reserved to Mariam Muradian. This Outdoor Series was created during the time that my Feral Child and Feral Woman were emerging. I had a claustrophobic time being inside anywhere…even my own house. I could only BREATHE outside. So I spent many days and nights outside. I moved my studio outside. I painted outside only. This series of paintings, I am convinced, cannot live indoors because it will choke the life out of them and they will die; so this series is prepared with heavy heavy sealants to live outdoors forever. I place each one very carefully in their “chosen” place. Each must be a compliment in the truest sense of the word to nature. You can never out-create nature. The series can be vibrant and subdued at the same time, depending on its environment. So once each has found their interconnected, noncompetitive place in the landscape, I watch. I enjoy watching these outdoor paintings live their life! How they communicate and play and change with the light, the blooms, the seasons! It is wondrous to witness! Their subtle variations and transformations are always perfectly, proportionately in sync with nature’s doings. Truly awesome! My ART has reached a Nirvana of sort in this context. It feels so right in my soul. Now you know why I must LIVE outdoors and garden and paint! I have never before felt such passion, such joy, and such inspiration! I continue to paint for this series. I will continue to take photographs of these art pieces as they change, as different colored blooms come to surround them. You must see! Thank you for looking and reading about this ongoing process of healing in my life. Please do comment, as I would love to hear how this effects the Beholder. Thank you. Outdoor Art Series 1L Gate (description for context): to the immediate right of this piece is the trellis gate leading to the backyard gardens. And immediately right of that is the companion gate art piece flanking the other side. Growing and climbing up this art piece is ivy and a wisteria with silvery white/lavender flowers. To the left of the piece is a huge true red rhododendron bush/tree. And to the left of that, a twin royal purple rhododendron bush/tree. More toward the ground in this same area is green grass with assorted colorful wildflowers, and running perpendicular to the fence is a bed of large white daisies/yellow centers and yellow tulips. I am just so grateful that I can SEE! That my vision returned from blindness, along with my color vision. That I am alive at all! A miracle and a blessing! See the others in the series /
