Bridal Veil Falls is a magnificent waterfall whose splendor is challenging to capture in a mere photograph….The trail is fairly easy until you get to the last segment, which is a bit steep & rocky….but it is well worth the hike…..nature gifts to you a most amazing reward, and you forget about everything except the wonder of her beauty… Bridal Veil Falls is in a sometimes overlooked corner of Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado.
butterfly caught on a flower in the sun. They move around quite fast and I only like photographing them in the wild, so I was lucky to get him like this. It is supporting for me to think that we can reach out to the good things in life in a strong way although we are fragile and small.
One of the most memorable books I’ve ever read is Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s little volume, Gift from the Sea. In that classic, she wrote, “One never knows what chance treasures these easy unconscious rollers may toss up on the smooth white sand of the conscious mind; what perfectly rounded stone, what rare shell from the ocean floor . . . But it must not be sought for or, heaven forbid, dug for. No, no dredging of the sea bottom here. That would defeat one’s purpose. The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach-waiting for a gift from the sea.” Periodically, throughout her life, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wife of the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh, went to Sanibel Island off the Gulf coast of Florida, to rediscover “singleness of eye, purity of intention, [her] central core.” Always in the public eye, especially during the dreadful times when their child was kidnapped and later found murdered, this wise woman knew that everyone needs time alone, time to reflect, time to get in touch once again with the purpose of one’s existence. Her book is a timeless volume which, even more so today than when she wrote it in the 1950s, calls us to slow down and reconnect with our Source. If you’ve never read Lindbergh’s book, I strongly recommend it. It’s filled with wisdom. And may God’s great ocean of mercy reward you today with many unexpected and beautiful treasures, gifts from his boundless sea of love.

It really is all about the journey…..being present in the moment….something that for me, takes some practice…..this world moves so fast and always toward something, and i have to stop at times and remind myself to breathe it all in…..

Took this image one week ago during this hike up to Garibaldi Provincial park Lake which is located @ 1400 meters or so. From the valley, getting up here takes about 4 hours to cover the 9 km and the return trip takes about 7 hours and covers a distance of about 20 km. / Being that we haven’t seen much snow so far in the mountains, we hiked the first 3km and then had to put the snowshoes on. Lucky for us the sky was opening up when we go to the top, had a lovely bit to eat and headed back down. When I first looked at this picture I took of an eagle flying away from a limb, I thought about the letter V for Victor and the famous quote, “To the Victor belong the spoils.” That phrase is very apropos to the eagle as the same day I took this shot, I took another one of an eagle with a raccoon in its talons. It was feeding on its prey when it was surrounded by ten very large turkey vultures or buzzards. Though the eagle was outnumbered by birds very near its own size, the eagle prevailed and the buzzards tasted not a morsel of the raccoon. They knew who was king and they let the king eat in peace. Truly, the Victor got the spoils! I thought this image might be just right for somebody who’s been victorious and is celebrating that victory with the rewards of the “battle” that’s just been won.

I would like to dedicate this image to all our fallen heroes and their loved ones; please know you will be remembered and appreciated forever. (This image is a composite of three photos, one of a soldier at Fort Polk, Louisiana, one of a flag taken at Spanish Lake in Iberia Parish, one of a country road connecting the rice fields near Kaplan, Louisiana. The background layer is the rice field road; I selected and pasted the flag and the soldier onto this background and used the sliders in the layers palette to control opacity and to give them an other worldly look. The background had the Orton effect applied. All this was done in PhotoShop Elements 6.0 for Macs). This image was inspired by Mark Graham my husband’s cousin, who gave his life in Iraq
Known locally as the Pony Express Graves, old Fort Pierce was, according to legend, the burial site of one Pony Express rider (1861), and later, three US Calvary soldiers that had been ambushed by Shoshone warriors (1864). Although the US military disclaims any record of the men being there, some years ago their three bodies were exhumed and re-buried at the Fort Douglas (UT) cemetery. Four fenced graves with illegible wooden markers are all that remain of Fort Pierce.
