I recently had the pleasure of working with a ridiculously fun model, Nicole, on a retro pin up shoot. It’s funny how some shoots I walk away from shaking my head and praying for some decent results, and then others I freak out of the way home about how much space it’s going to eat up on my hard drive. This shoot falls into the latter category. Nicole was so easy to work with and everyone involved was relaxed and up for a laugh. We were working outside after some heavy rain which ruled out many of the ‘usual’ pin up poses which require getting down on the ground, but the energy of the shoot was such fun we hardly noticed the restriction. It’s been a while since I’ve shot anything in this genre, but there is something about the ridiculousness and humor of it which I really genuinely love. Today Helen McLean and I met up to take some photos at her place. That was until we had a streak of craziness and decided to uproot the whole shoot and head into the city. You certainly get some strange looks when you lug around a red armchair on a saturday afternoon amidst hundreds of city goers. Anyway, Helen is slowly getting through all the post production and as each shot goes up I’ll add it to this entry rather than clogging everyone’s activity monitors. This is my new Mamiya C33 (TLR), a Japanese camera from the 60’s. I decided to buy it (a Medium Format camera) for the higher resolution in the dark room – It hasn’t needed it’s battery’s changed for about forty years because the camera’s spring loaded! Here’s some shots of it’s exterior and viewfinder: / / I’m don’t know if the shots I took with it will actually develop properly because the camera’s fairly beaten up. My fingers are crossed!
