THE RETRIEVE
by MothOriginally known as Weimar Pointers, the breed was developed and perfected for German royalty in the Weimar Republic of Germany in the early 19th century. They were bred to be courageous hunters with exceptional speed and tracking ability. The nobles of Weimer used them to hunt wild boar, bear, deer and other big game. Ownership of the alluring gray dogs was carefully guarded and breeding was strictly controlled by the nobles and later by The Weimaraner Club of Germany.

Two retrievers attentively watching two fishermen on Lake of the Woods, Ontario. The dogs, particularly the little one, want to go in and retrieve the lures. / The little brown one went along on one fishing trip. As soon as the lure hit the water, she dove out of the boat and started swimming toward the it. Fortunately we were able to pull her back into the boat before she connected with the lure. No more fishing trips for that one! /

Sometimes in life you don’t hold back, you just have to jump in feet first and see what happens. This is Sydney, a 10 yr. old Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She was enjoying some good ol’ fashion dock jumping in North Carolina.

The English bred lab comes from English bred stock. Their general appearance is different. The English bred labs are heavier, thicker and blockier. The American bred Lab comes from American bred stock and is tall and lanky. The Labrador Retriever is a solid, muscular dog, slightly longer than tall, with a short, hard, easy-care, water-resistant double coat that does not have any waves and comes in solid black, yellow, or chocolate. Interesting fact: Some of their talents include: hunting, tracking, retrieving, watchdog, police work, narcotics detection, guide for the blind, service dog for the disabled, search and rescue, sledding, carting, agility, and competitive obedience.
