2007 AirPower over Hampton Roads, Langley AFB. B-17 flyby, plane slightly banked for a perfect picture opportunity. You can almost make out the oil leaking over the engine cowl and wing (especially on port engine number 2). This is the Memphis Belle replica, the real Memphis Belle is currently undergoing restoration at the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. Last I heard the restoration is supposed to be completed by 2010. My art with 1000+ views
wondered off from the group again and found this.
I happened across these snow formations while following a coyote’s trail in the Mt Hood Wilderness Area. A stream gurgled beneath this surreal landscape of symmetrical banks and humps, and clearly this was an edge of the coyote’s home territory, so I’ve named the scene Tending the Line. All creeks and rivers flowing from the Mt Hood Wilderness are part of the Columbia River watershed. The Columbia was once a truly unique American river that supported the largest wild run of Chinook salmon in the world. Human encroachment has irrevocable altered the Columbia system but we can still save many other Oregon rivers that contain viable but threatened salmon habitat. To that end, all proceeds from the sale of my work are donated to Oregon Trout, a statewide conservation group working to restore freshwater health and habitat through innovation and education. Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Pathway to Krohmann – Ackermann Cottage The Legendary Historic Gold Mining town of Hill End, Rural New South Wales. This cottage was in total disrepair, with half a metre of sediment filling its rooms, and years of disuse, the cottage was only being held up by the blackberry bushes that entwined it. The occupants undertook the restoration work in accordance with the building’s conservation plan and the technical support of conservation architects. It is now, lovingly restored to it’s former glory!

Dome in the Parliamentary Library in Ottawa. Canon 400D / Sigma 10-20mm For Tallow The octagonal library, completed in 1876, is the only part of Canada’s original Houses of Parliament to have survived a major fire in 1916. A quick-thinking librarian closed the iron doors to the library as the fire burned through the Centre Block. Canada’s Library of Parliament has officially reopened, after a four-year restoration and upgrade costing more than $136 million. The mammoth undertaking was necessary to repair leaking windows, dangerous wiring and walls that were literally falling apart in the 130-year-old building. A statue of Queen Victoria sits in the middle of the newly renovated Parliament Hill library in Ottawa. / (Tom Hanson/CP) / “Although we were denied the loveliness of the library for a while, it was only in order to bring back the lustre to this jewel on the hill,” said Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons, at a ceremony Tuesday to mark the end of the work. The Victorian Gothic building, with its flying buttresses and copper roof, sits at the back of the existing Houses of Parliament, overlooking the Ottawa River. The delicate restoration and upgrade was necessary because of concern about the library’s unique collection of historic books and lack of space to store them, as well as the building’s structure. “I felt the building . . . needed some saving,” said project director Mary Soper in an interview with CBC Television. The work involved dismantling and rebuilding parts of the exterior and digging below the structure to create a large, climate-controlled space for books and documents. The copper roof has been replaced and parts of the exterior masonry rebuilt. “We have touched everything on the building top to bottom, inside and out — we’ve brought it up to date,” she said. The aim was to make the building structurally sound and improve the lighting, without losing any of the charm that makes the building a favourite with tourists visiting the Houses of Parliament. “The challenge here was the building did not have proper mechanical and electrical systems to not only conserve the bookshelves that are here, but also the collections which are among the most important in the country,” said Architect Jozef Zorko.

The lady on the left was my grandmother Theadora and the others were her sisters— Ann (top right), Kate just below Ann and toward the center, Genevieve. I am not sure how or why such beauty can flower so robustly for so short and sweet a time, then go—where? This photo, taken in the long ago, is so old now no one is alive who remembers them the way they were. Kate lived the longest. Reached the grand old age of 104. Gen was close behind and died at 94. Dodo, as we called my grandma, passed away at 80. I did not know Ann because she died at 32. Who would have seen this, on the day they went to the studio to pose for the photographer? Why is it, there are only images on paper now, quickly fading figures glimpsed as though reflections in a half-seen window-pane? Or, as they believe in some quarters of the world, is some wisp of spirit caught in photographs, the way a tiny fossil is enshrined in limestone over geologic time? Maybe…. When I look at this, I feel certain beauty – much like energy – is really not destroyed but only changed; somewhere and some-when, whether in a dream, a memory or in another realm beyond imagining, beauty and the human spirit carry on.
