  • Tikal National Park ~ Guatemala (2007) At 59 meters (190 feet high), Temple V is the second tallest pyramid at Tikal. Archaeologists believe it is the burial site of an unknown ruler.

  • At different states in our lives, the signs of love may vary: dependence, attraction, contentment, worry, loyalty, grief, but at the heart, the source is always the same. Human beings have the rare capacity to connect with each other, against all odds. . / . / ©2008 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.

  • An ancient Australian eucalypt has lost limbs but still stands in the Blackburn creeklands in Melbourne

  • I’ve spent the majority of the past three days at the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency annual Conference. It was a fantastic conference and well worth the time spent. Today was the last day and during a very moving presentation this doodle materialised on my notebook. I scanned the doodle in Kooka, traced the paths using Inkscape and then added the color with the GIMP (all opensource software freely available for download). I hope you like it. Cheers – dale.

  • I uploaded this image a few months ago but removed that one, made some changes to the original, and am resubmitting it at this time. This massive live oak which is probably several hundred years old is a testament to resilience in that the soil at its base has been eroding to the point of leaving its roots totally exposed. A man of over six feet can stand comfortably under this old oak! It really is something to see!

  • A piece I did about Katrina. Being someone that had to evacute from the storm / I had to remind the rest that WE ARE RESILIENT! / I won 3rd place with this piece….its one of my favorites / alot of people adore this one…and i’m glad. / Hope you all like as well.

  • bedraggled but resilient / she reaches high / into the light / up to the sky seeking to find / that love so long lost / that love she abandoned / that love she tossed like flotsam and jetsam / it floated away / leaving her scarred / never the same though lost and bedraggled / she still stands tall / refusing to buckle / beneath it all beneath the weight / the hurts / the pain / of love once lost / with nothing gained except the strength / and a wiser head / that says / move on / start again / and / don’t waste / this brand new day!

  • Back to winter on 60N… Nature can take a heck of bashing and nothing is spared during the lean season… Even my favourite maestro, [mr blackbird] has to endure the elements… However, he will return, perch on our fence to grace each sunrise & sunset come March, April. :)))

  • Cactus Plant

  • Re-growth of forest understory after bushfire.

  • Rhyll is a fishing town situated on the east side of Phillip Island. Early morning the professional fishermen take off in to the icy waters of Westernport Bay and out in to the Bass Strait to catch their livelihood. At 7am, the lads were loading the boats and setting out for the journey. Phillip Island has become noticeably more populated in the last few years, with trendier and trendier holiday houses popping up in its tiny villages. However the essence of the island remains the same. The same friendliness, authenticity and toughness I used to witness as a kid coming here for the first 21 Christmases of my life still thrives. This is a raw land, with rugged coastline, pristine beaches and tough, wind tolerant coastal plants. It has a soul. Nikon D3 / 17-35mm 2.8 / Tripod

  • Why do we love old sheds? Is it because we know one day we too will be dilapidated? Is it because we yearn for older, simpler days (if indeed they ever were simpler, which I doubt)...or is it a latent respect for the elderly? / Whatever it is, I love ‘em. the texture, the colours, the stoicism… / Took this at Phillip Island, Victoria. Nikon D3 / f/16 / Tripod / 1/30s / ISO 200 / 17-35mm @ 17mm / Sunset

  • Another abandon house from my trip to New Mexico . / Taken in a small community that I came across just outside of Carlsbad, NM . Taken with a Panasonic FZ50 Hanging Tough

  • the heart recalls / in rose-colored memory / favoring the good / sifting away the bad / leaving a smile / instead of sorrow her resilience / stronger than me

  • Old tree still standing in central New Mexico

  • I grew some shallots in my garden, and pulled them out a few weeks ago. Most of them were used, but this one made it rather lazily to the garlic bowl on the bench. Not the fridge, not wrapped, not in water. I never expected it to survive, but as the days went by I found it an almost intruiging experiment. To my surprise, the shallot sprouted a beautiful flower, which has just started opening. / It reminded me of the resilience of life, of how we can still bloom even in the direst of circumstances. If a shallot can do it, surely a human can!!!

  • Procrastination is my middle name :-) Tell me which you prefer, resilience, or resilience 2? From my core / I draw strength / Beneath the rough exterior of life / lies the essence of love / feeding growth and courage / to forever bloom
