Towering over the surrounding countryside in the heart of Scotland’s Braveheart country Stirling Castle is one of the great royal residences of Scottish history. A visit to this famous medieval castle is an essential part of any visit to central Scotland. It rivals even Edinburgh Castle for its sheer magnificence. It looks spectacular during the day, and enchanting when it is illuminated in a foggy night. / / / / Framed Print /

Bobby is a bobtail lizard (well, skink actually) who has grown considerably over the many years we’ve had her. Feeding her now is quite a job as you can see. Training her not to trample the roses underfoot has been quite an undertaking!

In Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, St Michaels Church (on the left) and Linlithgow Palace (on the right) from the local park (the Peel). The Peel is a man made park which once was part of the adjacent Loch. St. Michael’s Church is the most complete surviving example of a large late medieval ‘burgh kirk’ in Scotland. Its western tower originally had a distinctive stone ‘crown spire’, of the type seen also on St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, or St. Nicholas’ Cathedral, Newcastle-on-Tyne, which was removed in the early 19th century as it had become unsafe. In 1964 a replacement, the present aluminium spire, was added. The choice of spire was controversial at the time and the town was divided about it. The birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, Linlithgow Palace was a favourite residence of the Stewart kings before the Union of the Crowns. Occupying a prominent position beside Linlithgow Loch, the Palace is one of Scotland’s best known historic buildings. Although designated as a Royal Palace, this imposing fortification qualifies as a defensive Castle and was built to be just that. The first royal residence was established on this site in the 12th century; the present palace was started for King James I in 1425. James V was born here in 1512, and, by the time of the birth of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1542, the building had taken its present form. Bonnie Prince Charlie was entertained here in 1745; a year later, after having been occupied by soldiers of the Duke of Cumberland, the palace was gutted by fire and has remained a noble ruin ever since. 6/13/09 ~ Featured in Backyard Photography and top ten in the “Birdhouses” challenge ~ Thank you!!!!! / . / I was so pleased to see a little Wren moved into the birdhouse in my garden. For the past several years I never saw any activity. I was disappointed this week because our local bear ripped apart one of my birdhouses where a Chickadee family was living, and I’m hoping he stays away from the Wren Residence! Taken 5/31/09, Clarks Valley, PA / . Update – the local bear destroyed my Wren’s birdhouse on 6/6/09 and the nest is gone!!!! :( / . / NEW RESIDENT /

Top Ten in the “Cottage Window Boxes” challenge in Cottage Style September 29, 2009. / Featured in Communities August 9, 2009. Best Viewed Large I’ve always been attracted to window boxes overflowing with colorful flowers. As I walked along the brick-paved sidewalks of New Market, Maryland, a few weeks ago, this lovely home in the historic section caught my eye. Image taken July 19, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/500, aperture f/11.0, exp. 0.00, iso 1600. Post processing included HDR from a single hand-held image in Photomatix, some hand painting in Corel Paint 11, and a bit of tweaking in Photoshop.
Delicious. I’m diggin’ Resident Evil 5 a lot.
This is our resident long-term( I believe by now) house guest taking a nice leisurley nap on my husband bed. Max (The Cat) is a sweet fellow. He believes this is HIS bed now…and that my hubby just borrows it, occasionally. Ha,ha,ha,ha! He is so soft and feels like silk when you pet his tawney-yellow coat. / AS IS.
