  • I JUST WANT LOVE!
    by Squealia

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This is a re-work of my Scruffy picture I took of her 3 days after I found her abandoned on the “campo” scared and alone. Nikon D40 18-55mm I think she must have been thrown out at night as she is terrified of going into our back garden at night (our spotlight is broken!) and just cowers on the grass in fear and refuses to go to the toilet! Anyway whilst RB was down the other day I did a bit of playing on PSP and this was one of the images I played with!!! TEXTURE /

  • “DARE TO BE DIFFERENT” makes the perfect gift for the independent individual in your life. Could that be you? The image features a photograph of a real White Raven (also known as a “Spirit Raven” by local Haida people) born in May, 2008 on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. He is one of two rare white and 3 black Ravens born to 2 accepting (black) parents. The two rare birds are not albino which is what makes them so unusual. Their eyes are quite blue. All 5 siblings are getting along extremely well and all are thriving. White Ravens are very rare and hold sacred meaning for many groups and cultures throughout the World, including Native American Indian, Celtic, Norse and Wiccans. This artwork is another tribute to these remarkably intelligent and friendly birds. 50% proceeds from all sales go to the Mountainaire Avian Society in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

  • CATCHING SNOWFLAKES
    by mlynnd

    US$4.16–US$95.00

Harley was catching snowflakes on his tongue today. If you look closely, you can see some on his tongue. Harley is now eight years old. We adopted him when he was six years old. He is a golden retriever/australian sheperd mix, with some chow. When we see Harley being lighthearted like this, we can see the dog he was meant to be. Harley does have some bagged from when he was in a shelter all those years, but who cares - WE LOVE HIM for who he is, inspite of past hangups! WE WORK THROUGH BAGGAGE! This image has been a Group Avatar and Challenge winner. Also, place twice in the Top Ten in two challenges. Been featured twice also. Catching Snowflakes is featured in Happy Haven today 12/08/08. Thank you so much. Catching Snowflakes won the Tongues Challenge for Man’s Best Friend group, today 12/17/08. Catching Snowflakes placed in the top ten of the Most Heartwarming Rescue Story Challenge for the Rescued Pet group, today 12/20/08 Catching Snowflakes is featured in TPW, today 12/27/08. Thank you. Catching Snowflakes placed in the Top Ten of the Your Pets Making Silly Faces challenge. Playful Photogenic Pets group – 03/13/09

Image Featured in: Image Writing (2/24) March 2009 / All Soft and Cuddlies!! April 2009 / Playful and Photogenic Pets May 2009 and placed in challenges: / ImageWriting (2/24) top ten March 2009 / Playful and Photogenic Pets First Place “Funniest Pet” challenge May 2009 (thank you to all those who voted!) I often get questions as to how I retain my kitten pounce and flexibility, so I’ve decided to dictate to my human an instruction manual on how to become a Yoga Cat: 1. Check with your veterinarian before beginning any exercise program if you are not already an active cat. / 2. Find a safe and comfortable landing place. MY reclining chair works best for me – the human sometimes insists it’s her chair as she also seems to think my living quarters are also hers, I placate her on such occasions. She doesn’t know better. / 3. Find your favorite human. / 4. Get that human to find your favorite toy (or bring it to him/her if they are a particularly lazy human). My jingle bell ball, pictured in photo, makes me flip and flop in all sorts of ways. It’s my fav for this practice. For the humans reading this, you can equate it with those larger balls used in your Pilates classes and the like. / 5. Make sure your human has checked with their physician before engaging in an exercise program. Remember, some of them are particularly lazy, as noted above. / 6. Get your human to throw your toy up, down, over, and all around your space, remembering to include the comfy & safe landing place in this process. / 7. Remember to look as cute as possible, thus insuring human(s) enjoyment & laughter as well. This is particularly important as it serves to reinforce this behavior in the human(s). / 8. When you are ready, sit atop your chair, recliner, and PLOP down, attacking your toy, and flip flop around letting the toy know you’ve got it. / 9. At some point, it is likely that you too will be upside down and will have then mastered this particular Yoga Cat pose. / 10. Hope that your human isn’t armed with a camera in order to prevent potential photos such as my current one from being posted on any web page. / 11. Lastly, should you be caught on film in an upside down position, deny the practice of Cat Yoga and meow loudly telling everyone you’re mooning them. Love, laughs, and wishes for a purr-ific day! Purrs, Olivia with thanks to my secretary Emily Photo taken with Canon xti, 55mm lens.

Workflow for rescuing “The Lamp” NB I am writing this for users of Photoshop – although most functions are available in Elements als…

Workflow for rescuing “The Lamp” NB I am writing this for users of Photoshop – although most functions are available in Elements also … I have been asked many times for tips on giving shots a nostalgic feel, and also for advice on rescuing a ‘dud’ shot. ( I seem to get some kind of perverse pleasure from making something from a photo which is apparently useless – maybe is it symbolic!!) So, I have combined both (a ‘rescue’ technique as well as some nostalgic processing) in producing “The Lamp” and, for those who are interested, outlined some of the steps below. Please note this is NOT a traditional tutorial – the process is different for every photo, and each step allows room for personal taste and interpretation – no two people would end up with the same result! Before image After image 1. I first processed the basic shot – curves, sharpening, cropping, cloning out any extraneous bits etc (I purposely chose a jpeg for those who may not be using fancy techniques yet, and one that was definitely quite washed out. Normally I would use a RAW file, and/or some HDR). / 2. Saved it as “The Lamp – basic PS” / 3. Duplicated the background layer / 4. On the copy went to Filter/Find Edges / 5. Right clicked on the ‘find edges’ layer and blended to give it a slightly illustrative look (ie having dark edges and colours a bit desaturated) / 6. Duplicated this layer (Ctrl J if you are using a PC) / 7. Went to Filter/Other/High pass (push the slider to maximum) / 8. In this case it gave the effect I wanted without any further blending. If I didn’t like the effect, I could have right clicked on the high pass layer, and again tried some blending … if at any stage you don’t like any effect you can hit Ctrl/Alt/Z and it will take you back – one step at a time … / 9. Flattened the image. At this stage it was still a little washed out and pale… so / 10. Duplicated the layer / 11. Right clicked on the copy layer and in Blend mode, went to Multiply in the drop down menu / 12. Blended this and toggled the opacity slider till I had a realistic richer looking image / 13. Duplicated the layer again / 14. Went to Edit/Fill – 100% black / 15. Slid the opacity slider back to about 50% / 16. Used the eraser tool, quite large, with feathered edges and about 20% opacity, to wipe across the image a few times and ‘paint with light’ at an appropriate angle (tricky – needs to compliment the lighting already on the subject in the image – I am still practicing this myself) / 17. When satisfied I flattened the image and did another “Save as” (you never know – it pays to have a few variations to come back to just in case!) calling it “The Lamp – high pass multiply” / 18. From here on it is even more “trial and error”! I duplicated the layer again and did a little burning on shadowed areas, a little dodging where I felt the light should be emphasized, and with an omni light in Filters/Render, finally added a tiny bit of light to the lampshade to give the impression of a glow. I don’t necessarily look on this final image as one of my masterpieces, but do feel it is a credible attempt at rescuing what would otherwise be left “on the cutting room floor”. I hate to throw anything out, and that includes washed out photos! With thanks, and dedicated to all who have helped me along the way … :)

This is the ramp at the Lizard RNLI Station, the ramp which this craft slides down when going to a rescue. This little owl (the most common type of owl in our area) was rescued by a Raptor Center and ended up at the Cascade Raptor Center. They were unable to return her to the wild (due to an eye injury) and she remains as a permanent resident at the Cascade Raptor Center along with 60+ other birds of Prey. The Raptor center is involved in rescuing and returning hundreds of birds to the wild each year, including Eagles, Owls and Hawks. They are completely supported by the public. / 200% of all my earnings on RB go to help support these birds (I match 100% of all earnings). / Cascade Raptor Center

  • Shocking!
    by Julie Langford

    US$4.83–US$110.20

hehe – I absolutely love this shot. Its not the best shot I have of this beautiful, all black kitten, but I just love the expression on her face in this. It is a reaction to the flash of the previous shot. This little one is coming along nicely, and actually came out into the living room for a play last night – although it was murder trying to catch her afterwards. I am going to make donations to the Cats Protection league, and will include donations based on any sales of this image. For every card sold, I will donate a tin of cat food, for anything higher than a card, I will donate £1.00 This will be in addition to the donation I will be making personally.

This is an acrylic painting (6×6 inches) of a beautiful Doberman named Phoebe. She is a rescue dog that found a forever home. I just wonder what she was thinking about when her picture was taken. Like all rescue animals, Phoebe must have some incredible stories that we will never know…

  • PORTRAIT OF HARLEY
    by cdudak

    US$4.16–US$95.00

This is my wonderful boy Harley. He is a golden retriever/austrian shepard mix, and I think a little chow. My sister and I adopted him 2 yrs ago when he was six. He just had a home for maybe 1 1/2 yrs, otherwise he was in a shelter. Seems like everyone, thought their home was not where Harley was suppose to be. Everyone agrees now he is home at last, with Lynn and I. All I know Harely and Julie our other adopted dog, make our lives complete. / This was taken with a Canon Rebel XT
