  • Gopher Snake close-up on Figueroa Mountain, Santa Ynez, CA One of the most widespread snakes in North America, its range extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific, as far north as southern Canada, and as far south as Veracruz, Mexico. This species can reach five to six feet in length, and are among the more “human-friendly” species of North American snakes, mainly due to the fact that they are not venomous, hunt vermin (hence the name) and are easily raised and bred in captivity. When startled or angry, they will hiss very loud and rattle their tails. This is why they are sometimes mistaken for a rattlesnake.Habitat: Found in a wide variety of habitats, including deserts, prairies, woodlands, brushlands, coniferous forests, and even cultivated land. Gopher snakes often live in discarded or conquered gopher holes. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- Consider these images as companions. :-)

  • I’m in love with these snakes…

  • One of the most stunning forms in the World. The incredibly bright green Australian Green Tree is rare in captivity (in Australia) as they command more $ than the more common exotic forms. Eye catching is one way to describe them, beautiful is another..

  • The Mulga Snake Pseudechis australis (also commonly known as the King Brown) is not a brown snake at all, but a member of the Black Snake family. This species is venomous and should not be approached. As you can see in this image, he was starting to get a bit cranky about our presence seen by his ‘flattening’. It is one of the most common elapid species of western NSW. This one was found north of Wilcannia. • The Bateleur occurs throughout the savanna and open woodland regions of Africa south of the Sahara. In South Africa, the species once graced the skies of the Transkei, the Eastern Cape, the Karoo and the south Western Cape but sightings in these areas are no longer common. The Bateleur eagle eats carrion, reptiles, and small mammals like rats, / hedgehogs, squirrels or young hares. When attacking snakes, the bird raises its crest and spreads its wings. This, together with long, scaly legs, ensures that, should the snake strike, it will hit either feather or scales, neither of which will pass venom into the bird’s blood stream. The voice of the Bateleur eagle is quite distinctive. The most frequent consists of short repeated barks ‘kau-kau-kau’, followed by one or two long shouts of ‘koaagh’. In the wild this call is made while perched. Its scream of anger is completely different. 2006 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In the lowveld wildlife reserves, where the Bateleur probably occurs at maximum density in an ideal habitat, it is quite numerous. Outside of protected areas, the Bateleur is vulnerable to poisoned bait. The birds have been eradicated from virtually all South African farmland due to indiscriminate attempts to control jackal.

  • White-Lipped (or D’Alberts) Pythons are definitely NOT known for their placid nature. Although this one (called Robbie) would have you think he wouldn’t hurt a fly!

  • Albino Northern Territory Carpet Python (Morelia spilota variegata) or Darwin Carpet Python are native to Australia and New Guinea. The unusual appearance of this albino snake is caused by genetic faults in the metabolic system that produces melanin. This individual is an oculocutaneous albino, which means that it contains no melanin in the eyes or skin. / / ©2008 Shannon Plummer. • For Immediate Release Monday March 09,2009 / Las Vegas Nevada Vegas Vision Studios model Sidney Weite infected with previously un-discovered mutating body paint virus that is rapidly turning the once aspiring model into what appears to be a large form of a Coral Snake. VVS Head Makeup Artist Debra Weite says that the infection first appeared under the models chin and looked to be a minor rash. Within a matter of hours the virus had taken over better then half of the girls body and it was feared that extreme measures would be required to prevent the virus from spreading throughout her body and completely mutating the girl into a reptilian form. Bobby Deal VVS President and photographer is quoted as saying “In all my years of working with models I have never seen such an invasive and radical transformation of a model. In a mere two hours this girl has gone from promising young prospect to a venomous viper. At this point I am unsure what we can do to save her. The Center for Body Paint Transformation Control was called in late Sunday night to assess the situation and determined that the best course of action that they could take was to call in the noted body paint virus defender Pink Samurai Leopard to fight the reptilian beast. The staff of VVS managed to transmit the following images of the infected model as well as an image of the infected subject locked in mortal combat with Pink Leopard which shall appear in mulitple locations across the Redbubble Network. Shortly after this communication was received all contact with VVS was suddenly lost. Communications experts are working frantically to try and restore communication with the Las Vegas studio complex as the world waits to see the out come of this epic battle. # Nikon D300 / 18-200 VR

  • I was squatting under a tree taking pictures of flowers…when I found that all the interest was hanging only a foot above my head….....wasn’t it nice of her to pose for me? / A completely harmless black rat snake…..she was hunting for eggs/birds/frogs…. / A snake with-out fangs or venom…I find them to be some of the most docile of all wild snakes I’ve handled. And BEAUTIFUL! / Found in NE Missouri….I used another only moments later to scare off some ‘hillbillies’ who wouldn’t take ‘leave me alone’ for an answer.

This sub-species lives here in the mid-west and has such incredible colors from this vibrant yellow to a green/blue to even an almost purple color near the top-side of the tail tip. / My son and I found this male on a NE Kansas road down from my father’s home. Completely harmless, they will sometimes get nippy and CRAZY squiggly if handled. We were blessed to find a very placid one who preferred to just ball up.
