After reading this interesting journal entrance (yeah, give me back my journal! hehehe): Interesting Journal Entrance / Click Me! I decided it was time to arrange and put some order in my portfolio. I deleted a lot of test renders and stuff that wasn’t that good. Now I feel it is acquiring a more “professional” aspect, though I’m not done with it. I’m still leaving some minor tests and pictures that I thought were crucial to understand the origins of some pictures (and because maybe one day some may find it interesting) and I’m way too lazy to make heaps of journal entrances. I might re-render some works too at an even higher resolution as soon as I get a new computer (which I hope will be by Christmas… I HOPE) Seems like today it was the “Clean Up” day! Everyone pick the vacuum cleaners!

because Olympus and Pentax both are annoying pains in the butts…. i’ve learnt i lesson i wish i had of known when i first got my SLR theres a reason everyone prefers nikon and canon and to think i nearly got a canon i think i wish i had of… friday night out in the city i believed my 14-45mm lense was finally focussing again and had gotten over the frustration of nowhere having a second had 4/3rds system lense at a decent price… then i got on the train and realised they were still extremely borderline on focus i think some were ok tho im not the best at picking up on focus… as for pentax or prehaps sigma lenses my friend just got her pretty new lense back from repairs still it won’t auto focus especially on moving subjects like it used to but then her standard lense did the same thing… wondering if it’s a camera issue… think shes tackling the wonderful world of dodgey equipment at the repairers tday… lets hope they have answers and that she’s not without a dlsr for too long… as for me i guess i’m only with a zoom for now

What makes these even funnier is that they are real!! In case you need a laugh: Remember, it takes a college degree to fly a plane but only a high school diploma to fix one. After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form, called a ‘Gripe Sheet’ which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. / The mechanics correct the problems; document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the Gripe Sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humour. / Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas’ pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers. P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. / S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. / S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit. / S: Something tightened in cockpit. P: Dead bugs on windshield. / S: Live bugs on back-order. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute Descent. / S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. / S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably loud. / S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. / S: That’s what friction locks are for. P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode. / S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. / S: Suspect you’re right. P: Number 3 engine missing. / S: Engine found on right wing after brief search. P: Aircraft handles funny…........ (I love this one!) / S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. / S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. / S: Cat installed. And the best one for last…............... / P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. / S: Took hammer away from midget.

Murphy was up to his tricks again yesterday. On a gig and me Canon 40D started giving me a “Error 99” message. “Turn camera on and off or reinstall battery”. Did that a few times but the dreaded Error 99 message kept coming up. A bit of surfing revealed that Error 99 is a Canon euphemism for “Something is stuffed, but I’m buggered if I know what it is”. Methinks there’s scope for that becoming a handy general tag for those mongrel problems life throws up. The other issue is that the Canon web site doesn’t tell you that there is a newish repair place at Uni Park, Building 1, 195 Wellington Rd, Clayton. The web site will tell you to ring a 1300 number and the recorded message tells you to post the camera to NSW. Wrong. A bitch of a thing that the camera failed during a job, but not so bad in that a mate and I noticed a wee speck of something inside the lens a while ago. It had to be sent in for that to be checked prior to warranty expiry anyway. UPDATE: Hooley Dooley! Me beloved is back! Mirror needed replacement and a wee bit of dust had been sucked into the lens. Had thought that zoom lens are guarded against dust getting into the barrel, but not so. Col might avoid zooming the lens too fast in future; should cut back on the suck pressure if I zoom slower. Also wanted to mention that the Canon repair people down at the new location near Monash Uni are top notch. Got the call lateish on Friday that the camera was ready. As it turns out I was keen to have the camera that night for some shots. Raced down peak-hour Dandy road and got to Canon 10 minutes after closing time. The champs opened up for me. What customer service is all about. Well done Canon.

Though Im an electronic guru so to speak, I tackled replacing the scratched CMOS sensor in my canon rebel yesterday. WOW! what a trip! Definatly not for the faint of heart, though I didmanage to get the project completed and shes good as new. I really lucked up on even finding a sensor as buying it new from canon would cost more than the entire camera i.e. not very cost effective. But good ole e-bay answers again and now its time to shoot, shoot, shoot!

10-02-09 I am happy to report that Milday Fuji, (my Fuji S9600), is back from the doctors and is in great health and condition. Though Fuji said there was nothing wrong when they tested her they did, after I voiced some concern, change the internal battery “at no cost to you”, they said. They also replaced a missing sync cord plug as I requested. They said they were going to supply me with a full set of Fuji NiMh rechargeable AA batteries but I was most surprised and delighted when they gave me a charger as well AND a brand new Fuji camera strap! While their communication is prompt and extremely good I was disappointed with their turn around time. The camera was returned to me by snail mail. I would have thought Express Post would be good public relations. Regardless of that I am generally happy with the service and extremely grateful for the extras. Total cost to me = AUS$120. A few weeks ago my Canon 17-85 IS f4-5.6 finally decided to die after a few real hard knocks. First my mum tripped over and it hit the concrete at southbank but still worked fine. Then when I was in Vietnam it rolled of my bed on a junk and hit the wooden floor of the boat. This cracked the bit that zooms in and out on the casing and so it would struggle to zoom. The other week at one of my mountain bike races it finally decided to stop autofocusing so i decided to take it to the camera store to get it fixed. They quoted over $500 to repair it so I jumped on the net and have one on the way for around $700. If anyone is after camera gear I can highly recommend this mob D-D-Photographics I would rather spend the extra $200 to know that I’m getting a new lens and not just a repaired one. I would have loved a new L series but unfortunately the budget wouldn’t stretch quite that far! I’m also heading over to San Francisco in June / July which should be great…hopefully heading down to Phillip Island this weekend to take some photos, haven’t been down there for a while so will be a good escape. Redbubble also paid me $90 today so i can spend that on fuel :D hehe hope everyone has a good easter break! Cheers

I haven’t been on RedBubble in months and its all looking very strange! I suppose I’ll get used it but it may take a while. ;-) I’m hoping soon to get back into taking some photos and uploading them, in the meantime I have also had some good news with respect to photos I’ve had in exhibitions. Laneways and Dreams #1 was in The Women’s Salon 09 at the Counihan Gallery in Melbourne and sold for $190.00. Laneways and Dreams # 5 sold for $325.00 and Laneways and Dreams # 3 and #4 sold for $100.00 each. 100% of the proceeds from these sales are going to help kids affected by the bushfires in Victoria. Also, it turns out my camera lens had nothing wrong with it after all. (See my earlier riveting journal entry http://www.redbubble.com/people/vaguelyspecific/journal/2505879-auto-focus-and-canon-ef-s-18-55mm-lens ) I put it in to be serviced and it turns out that a pin supporting the main mirror in my camera had to be replaced. The pin cost $10.00, the labour $200. ;-) But is IS nice to have it back and fully functional! Thanks again to everyone who offerred their advice about this.

My D90 and Nikon 105mm lens hit the deck while tripod mounted this morning. While they seem to be fine, but I cannot remove the lens, so I guess the camera will be out of action be a bit while it is sent away to remove the lens and hopefully I have not done any further damage Be tears of joy to have it back in one piece. Fingers crossed.

Several weeks ago, I had spotted some dust behind my LUMIX FZ30’s lens. I shipped my FZ30 to Authorized Panasonic Repair/Service center. The outcomes would be one of following: 1: The lens can be cleared of dust, camera re-conditioned and sent back. (About $250AUD) / 2: The lens has to be replaced, camera re-conditioned and then sent back. (About $400AUD or more) / 3: If #2, would I prefer to have an FZ50, ex-show model, that is still under warranty. FZ30 still returned. Well, I now have an FZ30 and an FZ50. I have to admit, it is a step in many ways. I can still use the FZ30, but that dust makes auto-focus, especially for macros very dicey. It can be easily used for Non-macro shots (scenics, portraits etc) because I can edit the ‘mote’ out should it appear. A few of the improvements: I can set the external flash settings to manual or have the camera manage it. (Manual, fershure) 10.1 megapixels. All the equipment I got for the FZ30 will work with the 50. The first photo taken with the FZ50.

first… my appologies to all my friends and watchers here … i have not published any new photos for AGES…... well simply cause i did or do not have my camera.. STILL NOT i should say. on september 29th i brought my fuji to the shop. i noticed that it had started to ‘drain’ batteries. i’d put in fresh batteries and after taking only 20 photos the batteries were empty – or at least that is what the indicator showed. the camera would then shut down and that was that. very annoying. so i brought it to the shop where i had bought it and was told they would send it to fuji. first i was informed… 2 weeks. well… that would be beginning of october… of course.. it was not beginning of october. instead i was told.. oh.. on tuesday… then.. no wednesday… then it was friday… then monday.. tuesday again.. ah NONONONO.. wednesday it is… lalalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…...... on and on and on it went.. there is no fuji hungary?? aha.. so my camera was sent to austria… frankly.. i couldnt care less. i am NOT happy with this kind of service.. hungary, austria or elsewhere … today at my shop zoli, the salesman announced happily that he had received an SMS that my camera had arrived in budapest…. oh hurray hurray hurray! budapest is still 80 miles away from where i live and from where zoli has his shop.. i wonder i wonder…. will it arrive directly? or might my camera take some kind of detour and be here on … monday… no.. tuesday. or perhaps wednesday?? LOL :) anyway….. i hope it will be here SOON….... so that i can start contributing to my account here again :) peace! pat :)
