My reflections mark the place of what once was / and what is yet to be. / Cast your hope upon these waters. After many days it shall return, / a fresh incarnation of your dream / to carry you forward on the tides of my memory, / and away from this sandless hourglass. - Kai Matta

acrylic on canvas 20×24 inches (51×61 cm.) / also available as a print on 180 lb. acid-free 100% rag paper, signed by the artist A page from the Cosmological Book of Experimental Design: Cast a memory upon the waters; / wind-driven thoughts steer towards a distant event horizon; where the ocean meets the sky, where past, present and future converge / at the triple point of time. / This conjunction creates the equilibrium of eternity. Meanwhile, in the quintessential Celestial Realm, / dark whirlpools sublimate the resonance of now, and the echoes of the atmospheres transform standing waves; / Yesterday red-shifts into tomorrow, / and thus, the Ocean of Eternity follows this mystic Lunar Sutra: / Simultaneous waxing and waning, phases without dimension; / This scroll, illuminated by the Fingers of God, expresses a perfected state. -Kai Matta

acrylic on canvas, 44×54 cm. (17×21 inches) / original available / available as a print on 180 lb. acid-free 100% rag paper, signed by the artist / also available as a signed 30×40 inch (50×75 cm.) poster The late afternoons in Arcadia are never ending, / where time comes to a standstill. The waves move / but the pattern has no end, and the mind seizes / on nothingness and holds it. The colors evoke a / sense of all-enveloping warmth that reinforces / the idea of finding the magic moment within. / The time will come to step away from the picture, / but it becomes embedded in the mind’s eye. With a / moment of stillness it will return, and the peace / will return. The sadness is knowing that Arcadia / is a place to visit, and that happiness by it’s / nature requires a contrast to give it value. / That’s why we can’t stay there. - Robert Wallis

acrylic on canvas, 33×38 cm. (13×15 inches) / original available / also available as a print on 180 lb. acid-free 100% rag paper, signed by the artist Before any Venus emerged from your waters, / before the birth and death of a thousand divinities now forgotten; / you breathed, you sang, you danced. Did your beauty mesmerize the passing moon; and capture it forever in a tidal embrace? / Did you rejoice at the dawn of creation, / or did you merely smile at the pale vanities of human kind? If the moon could not escape your force, / how could mere mortal ever tame you? If a spoken word restrained your tides and uncovered lands, / will another, final word, return you to your former place, / where the sign of a rainbow comes to mark the end of an age? - Kai Matta

a new “blurry” avatar! I got sick of looking at myself looking up to the left of my computer screen! LOL. This was the only other recent pic of me in which I had recently taken a shower. :) :) Such is life! BTW, I’m 40 today (another reason for the blur, perhaps).

Remodernist abstract composition begun by children during a 15 minute painting demonstration I did at the Western Colorado Center for the arts. Kids took turns doing brush strokes over an old blue painting I had kicking around in my studio. As they watched, I started to develop the painting. I talked about my process as I worked. Some adults with the group said that, before the birds, there were dolphins.

This is the Painting within Painting of the I am Dragonfly…....the night version of the image …...... as it appears when the lights are off. I love to paint with light…..i do wonder how many people have to paint with the lightswitch close by so they can SEE what they are doing in the dark…. I am not really tapping out code with the light…... but in order to see it must be dark it is a paradox that fascinates me. The dragonfly is a wonderful creature to observe…. Redreaming mindscapes in light. Day Version

12” x 18” mixed media on paper. Pastel, oil pastel, spray paint. No. 1 in series of 7. I’d like to explain the forest series a bit… this was one of my first attempts at saying something with my art, it is supposed to represent where i was at the time. I was 19, and i knew i didn’t want the 9-5 thing forever… I knew that I wanted to be an artist, professionally, more than that, i HAD to be, and if that was gonna happen i HAD to start making a move toward my goal…. but I had no idea how to even start, I felt lost, like I was in a dark forest feeling my way around searching for a path, with sooo many obstacles in my way… the snow was just another obstacle, not only would the snow be covering any tracks that had been made, leaving me trapped deeper in the forest than when I started, but it also was meant to add a little sense of urgency, adding the potential of freezing to death if i couldn’t find my way out. this was just the way I felt… I had to figure a way out, soon, or else I was gonna be stuck where I was at forever… and my dream would die…. I did my best to make whatever was beyond the forest to be dream-like and serene (another reason for the snow) whlie keeping the branches imprisoning and malevolent to some degree… The series was largely inspired by H.R. Gigers “Passages” and the work of both Gustav Klimt and Vieira Da Silva. 1997
