  • I am intrigued by old derelict buildings, as I believe they still hang on to the stories and memories of past families who lived there. Although the people have gone, the remnants still stand as a monument to the past.

  • Photo of a Sir William Armstrong Rifled Muzzle Loading Fortress Gun 1867. / They originally where at Fort Gellibrand now they are at rest along The Strand at Williamstown in Victoria.

  • Medium: Multi/mixed-media – charcoal, pastel, gesso, watercolour, acrylic, oil, collage, leaves, fabric, papers – himalayan rice paper, cartridge, Arches 300 gsm rag paper. / Triptych: H.122 x W.170 / This work is from the curated group exhibition ‘Remnants of Presence’ Exhibition. Innisfail, Far North Queensland. / One of the conceptual challenges for each artist was to approach a work with subject matter in-two-parts to show recent practice/new work development and be shown together. Visible Traces represents renewal, journey of experiences and time passage. Part A – Of recent practice (the two outer side panels) makes reference to the initial inspirations from: the natural environment, the human figure, various motifs including banana fibre made receptacles/vessels, lino prints and evolved symbology. Part B – The new work (centre) Prior artwork imagery & object ‘remnants’ were used for the initial stimuli and also represents my ‘presence’. All is fused into an abstract multi-layered composition. It is a collective tribute to the tropical shapes, forms, patterns, and textures etc that were the initial inspirations, the visible signage. Organic, gestural and spontaneous in feel (energy), with collage and mixed media processes mingled with personal symbolism. The work provides the viewer with facets and moments. Although ambiguous, there are sufficient visual markers to draw them in to discover further information and help them to intuitively and conceptually complete what they may perceive in the work and to sense the presence of the artist (spirit).

  • ...remnants of an old busted up jetty. She’s still hanging in though. Sold Framed Print

  • Sunset at Warneet Coastal Reserve.

  • While out on the lake last Saturday I noticed several leaves floating in the water from the surrounding Cottonwood trees. The ones that were the most emotionally compelling for me were these simple skeletal remains. So much beauty in such frailty. A symbol of life. /

  • An old building at Tarro in New South Wales.

  • The worn remains of a fish trap fence reaching out into the Coorong near Salt Creek South Australia. Nature is slowly working away at these remnants reducing many of them to small sticks just standing in place. Canon 400D 18-55 CIR Polarising filter and slight curves in Photoshop CS3.

  • Abstract image of decaying leaves in winter.

  • An old window with green shutters in the historic Italian town of Albenga. Below the window are the remnants of a painted sign advertising a coffee house

  • Very little remains now, of the once thriving Spa industry at Clifton Springs of the 1870’s, when people used to travel by ship to the now derelict pier in the background and bath in and bottle the natural mineral spring waters that were in abundant supply, at the water’s edge.

  • I thought it was about time that I added an image into the group ‘Historic Prisons, Jails, Asylums & Courthouses”. / So I dragged this one out of my archives and scanned it…... / This is the main entrance to Pentridge Prison in Melbourne. / When it was build, in what is now the suburb of Coburg, it was mainly just bush. But these days it is a thriving dense community. / So the Gov’t has done the same with this as they do with everything else…. Sold it off, and developed it into a Housing Estate. / This entrance, some of the surrounding high bluestone walls, and a couple of internal structures are all that remain, as it is now classified by the National Trust. / . / Entrances into the estate are located in the North wall in Gaffney St & South wall in Urquhart St. / . / Click here if you want to read about the Prison. =======================

  • Ahh, I shall truly miss the crisp, cold days, the brilliant sunlight through the shards of glass-like ice…. But, as the winter gives way to spring, all shall renew, and the many splendid moments of new life will be nice…

  • The Lady Lamington Building stands on the grounds of the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and is heritage listed. / Lady Lamington, the wife of the Governor of the day laid the foundation stone on 14 September 1896. The building provided accommodation for 207 nursing staff at that time. / Sitting rooms, each with a fireplace, were a feature of the two top floors. / This building has an odd feeling to it that I can’t really explain, not like it’s bad or evil, but as though the people who lived there left echoes, remnants.
