  • This woman is a victim of a seemingly never ending war in southern congo. She has suffered sexual violence (rape) so severe it has rendered her incontinent. She now exists purely as a result of a courageous charity called Heal Africa, and indeed her own inner strength and faith. I asked her if I could take her portrait and she stood up (which must have been painful), straightened her back and stared straight down the lens. No stopping to straighten her scarf, no preening, no fear. Just an honesty so raw, so uninhibited and so rare, I caught my breath and thought I’d never breath again. I was totally overpowered by her intensity. After I took the shot and showed it to her she smiled and thanked me. It still gives me a shiver to look at it now. HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! • Couple walking hand in hand on the beach.

  • Any comments are welcome!

  • On Wednesday 13 February 2008, the Federal Australian government will begin the process of saying ‘sorry’ to our indigenous population. / Primarily for the forced removal of aboriginal children from their parents. These children were then put in orphanages or white foster families. / The individuals involved have come to be known as the ‘stolen generation.’ / This Government is the first one to agree to say ‘sorry’ for the events of the past which have permanently scarred relations between indigenous and european/celtic Australians. / It is considered by many to be vital to the healing process for all Australians. / I for one think it’s great.

  • I find that when I take one of these in the morning – the day goes a whole lot better…

  • Pastel on sanded paper (burgundy Colourfix) 70cm x 50cm This is a pastel painting. I was intrigued with the way the light was glinting on the raindrops on these eucalyptus leaves after a brief shower (which really did nothing to relieve the drought)!!!! Featured in the group ‘Works on Paper’ – Dec 2008 / Winner of the ‘True Colours’ Challenge and featured in the Contemporary Pastel Painters group – March 2009 / Featured in the Australia! You’re Standing In It group – June 2009 / Featured in Creative Cards – July 2009 / Winner of the ‘Something Unusual’ challenge in the Contemporary Pastel Painters group

  • Lets hear it for bass. / The most important and overlooked part of rock bands if they want to stand out from the crowd. Bass has only come into its own in the last 20 years or so with the electronic revolution. There is no analog instrument anywhere that can achieve bass as clean and booming as Elektrobank by The Chemical Bros. / I first noticed bass when I was young, pre-ten. I’m not really sure, but I was upstairs in the family home and knew what song was on the radio downstairs on a big old guffer of a Philips HiFi system but it was different to the song I was used to hearing downstairs. It was the bass getting through the floor without the melody. So I was aware of it. It was much later in life that I developed my taste for it though. The title is kinda what I’ve done here. I work at it like etching but build up shapes instead of cut them away. I started with just the bass clef and added everything else in as I went along. I wanted a whooshy kind of buzz and took care that things are where applicable as close to perfect circles as I can draw and that the curves continue through the different elements. Its mostly freehand but I needed a small bit of help from the top off a can of WD-40 to get the two dots right. The oil lamp is to balance out the bottom right and because oil lamps are cool. • This image is another in my visual depiction of ‘human development’ – in this case depicting an unfortunately very common experience if the course of development and growth is hurt or traumatised in any way… This image took me quite some time to create. I have never attempted so complex a composite before. What is seen here was made possible by skills I learnt very recently through RB. I got to the point where it was well over 40 layers… then found that some of the layers underneath were no longer ‘necessary’ as they had been totally covered by those added on top…. then a while later realised I was up over 40 layers again… / I found the blending was quite difficult as it was important to me to maintain a sense of ‘flow’ in the image, which is very difficult when combining so many in a composite. You may judge whether I have managed to come anywhere near my goal… I hope that my skills will continue to improve and in time I will be able to create (hopefully a little more quickly) images that ‘flow’ even more smoothly than this. All images used in this composite taken with Sony Alpha 350, various lenses, and are mine. FEATURED IN ‘OUTSIDERS’!

  • My Website Take My Soul Away That was some revealing light / That you shone on me last night / Have you turned away from me / Because you know that I can’t see? But if you leave me in the night, / Well then you’re leaving me in spite / And if you leave me in the day / Well then you’ll take my soul away Nothing ever happens to me / Though I still can’t see the things that you see. / Was anybody there? / Does anybody care? No, nobody to show me the way / No, nobody to tell me to stay / No, nobody was there / No, nobody does care That was some revealing light / That you shone on me last night / Have you turned away from me? / Because you know that I can’t see And if you leave me in the night / Well then you’re leaving me in spite / And if you leave me in the day / Well then you’ll take my soul away If you leave me in the night / Well then you’re leaving me in spite / And if you leave me in the day / Well then you’ll take my soul away The Cranberries

  • Yes, I did actually manage to read all 4 massive books in the ‘Twilight’ series while my computer was ‘sick’. So – for a bit of ‘light relief’ – my take on the traditional ‘vampire’. I know this one doesn’t actually ‘match’ any of the wonderful vampire characters in ‘Twilight’ (by Stephanie Meyer) – the only vampire there with flaming red hair definitely comes across as a ‘bad guy’ – not one willing or able to join the good, ‘vegetarian vampire coven’ that the story is based around. / But – I just couldn’t see myself creating an image of something with fangs and a lot of fake blood – so bright red hair has to substitute. A ‘vampire’ maybe not willing or able to clearly show him or herself as she is to the outside non-supernatural world? A composite image created from many of my own photographs.
