  • This Weddell seal has hauled out of the ocean for a well earned rest on a lovely ice bed, with snowy white sheets – and seems to be thoroughly enjoying it. After hard hunting hours at sea they love to beach and spend time relaxing, lounging around and lazily waving a flipper or stretching a tail every now and then. / I have never heard anything so amazing as when they sing! It’s eerie.

  • Cougar relaxing, captive animal.

  • Australian Brushtail Possum in my Gladstone Bag. He turned up a while ago and liked his new apartment. I occasionally give him a piece of fruit which he seems to appreciate. PS since I posted this there has been a little drama which had a kinda happy ending.

  • After our early morning elephant ride, to try and see tigers, I noticed that one of the elephants liked to hold his trunk over his tusk. Thought it may make a nice shot. / / (Bandhavgarh National Park – India) / / >< / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

  • WILD & FREE / / Polar bear cubs have a play break on an ice floe. What a great sight to see! The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hut! • The mule deer congregate in our area for the rut as we are on a sparsely populated butte. The afternoon light provides a rich frame to set off their stunning strength and beauty, and the fading fall colors provide a soft counterpoint. • I was fortunate with this wolf, he was cruising along fairly near the road. When a group of photographers stopped to admire him, I went a bit further down the road trying to anticipate his direction. So it was just the two of us in the sage when I took this shot. He seemed aware of me but relaxed about my presence. The wow factor here was his poise, the ease with which he stopped to survey his next move. Like he owned the valley. In hind sight, I guess he does. Canon 40D, Canon 100-400mm IS lens, tripod. Yellowstone National Park, Lamar Valley. Focal length 360mm, speed 1/200, f5.6.
