I spotted this couple having their photoshoot when I was about at least a clear 70m away. Snapped it and converted it with some blur to the background while keeping the couple sharp. Love how their height is set against the relatively gigantic pillars
1st work from a little series called “Divorce”.

The day you were born, the whole world was blessed / These thoughts in my mind to you I must confess / The time has come for me to express my true feelings / You are the center of my thoughts and the essence of my being You brighten my days and lift my spirits / I have felt this for so long and now want you to hear it / For you have lifted me up from a life filled with sorrow / And made me realize there is always a better tomorrow So you may know the place you hold in my heart / You are always with me even when we’re apart / I truly believe what we have is meant to be / Just open your heart and soon you shall see What I am willing to do to keep a smile on your face / Just know that I’m here and will be ALWAYS… /beautiful poem by Brandon A. On the weekend I threw and gave away about half of my clothing, and 26 bags of other stuff I no longer use. I wanted the space more than the stuff, if that makes sense? Space to move, space to think, space to grow into. And as I piled things into bags I reminisced about where it had all come from, the stories which surrounded my possessions. In my prime time, I was somewhat truth or dare obsessed. It was my favorite way to meet new people – right down to business. What do you fear? loathe? How far would you go? What last made you cry? And with weekly games of truth or dare, it became a ritual to write down the best ones onto squares of cardboard. Later on, those cards, all beaten and torn, were typed and laminated onto the back of playing cards and passed around friendships for others to use. A deck of questions, poking into people’s souls. I’ve carried them around for years now. And yesterday, I threw them away. I expected to regret it straight away, but I didn’t. Because it isn’t the end of truth or dare, just the start of a new game. Anyone want to play?

Back in 1992, I wrote this quote in my journal, “Forgiveness is a courageous attempt to add steps to the ladder of the future. To forgive oneself is the doorway to heaven and the challenge of lives to come.” I cannot remember who the author was, but this quote is a part of my daily routine - / I forgive myself for what I’ve done yesterday, today and tomorrow! / In my counseling efforts the issue of forgiveness is always misconstrued, that in order to forgive you must embrace the person forgiven – this is NOT to say you need live with them, tolerate future abuse, or forget the lessons learned from this relationship. I guess that this particular belief is what sparked the inspiration for this writing at 2am this morning. / I am hopeful that someone struggling with Self-Esteem earns their presence and ability to hold themself in enough regard and strength NOT to compromise themself for Survival, Affection or Success! / Peace~ Imagine my surprise today 5/6/09, when my sweet sister DevineDay Dreams created created this beautiful artwork to accompany this poem…

Press mentions are hard to come by, but perform remarkably well in terms of exposure and sales. Recently, RedBubble artists have received press on these sites: - BoingBoing / - SlashFilm / - Topless Robot / - Toxel.com / - Gizmodo / - Fantastic Blognanza (Please feel free to send me other press mentions and I’ll post them here.) It’s no coincidence that these artists received press. Many artists work very hard to promote and secure exposure for their work. Sure, some get lucky, but they’re in the minority. So, how does PR (public relations) exposure happen, and how can I get some? Relationships sell art. If I approached you on the street and said “buy this shirt or art print” you would think me certifiably insane. If I came to you with a softer sell such as, “How does this photograph make you feel?” you might stop for a second and consider my question. And at that point a dialogue would begin. I would give you some background on the artwork, the story behind its creation, my inspiration, as well as ask how you feel about the image. You might buy the image – or not – but at the very least we started a conversation, a relationship. Press and PR is much the same. The writers have a relationship with their readers. The readers trust the writers. And so, when a writer posts about a t-shirt or artwork there’s some credibility already built in. These same types of relationships exist between the artist and the writer. The artists that received the above press exposure found out whom to write, and likely put the artwork within a context or story. (Full disclosure: I pitched the Toxel post with the idea that designers that read Toxel would resonate with a digital art tool – again, the story and history.) Where to begin? Start with family and friends. Ask them how they feel about your art and/or t-shirt designs. Take that information and extend it to writers, e.g., wouldn’t your exquisite photographs of flowers resonate nicely with a writer that is focused on gardening? Perhaps they would consider using your image in exchange for a link to your RedBubble profile. Selling art is a marathon and not a sprint. Some sales are easier than others, e.g., when the viewer or buyer has built-in context (as related to pop culture), but regardless of how you sell, a story or a relationship will win the day. What if garnering press seems impossible? The same techniques outlined above can be extended to an art fair, a gallery opening, a coffee shop conversation, your mission statement, your RedBubble profile, Bubblesite, an email, a Tweet, a Facebook status update, or any space or place where you can start a conversation that leads to a relationship. More to come. Regards, / Jason

Please view large. / © 2009 Danilo Lejardi The thing is that I´ve been delaying the creation of an image series inspired on this novel by Cirilo Villaverde. So I decided to post this image to function as a reminder for myself. Cecilia Valdés is a novel by the Cuban Cirilo Villaverde (1812–1894). It is a work of importance for its quality, and its revelation of the interaction of classes and races in Cuba. / Action takes place in colonial Cuba about 1830. The young and beautiful light skinned mulatta, Cecilia Valdés, is the illegitimate daughter of powerful land magnate and slave trader, Candido de Gamboa. Leonardo de Gamboa is his legitimate son. / Leonardo falls in love with Cecilia not realizing that she is his own half-sister, and they become lovers. At the same time, hopelessly in love with Cecilia is also another man, the poor black musician, José Dolores Pimienta. His advances Cecilia rejects; and she conceives Leonardo’s son. / Love between Leonardo and Cecilia does not last, however. He abandons her and becomes betrothed to a white upper class woman, a certain Isabel Ilincheta. Cecilia turns to the faithful Pimienta to plan revenge. On the day of his wedding he is assassinated on the steps of the cathedral by Pimienta who acts on the instigation of Cecilia. He is executed, and she is thrown in prison. / Cecilia Valdés reveals the intricate problems of race relations in Cuba. There are the elite social circles of Spanish-born and creole whites; the growing number of mulattos, of which Cecilia is one, and the blacks, some slaves, some freed men. The blacks are also divided between those who were born in Africa and those who were born in Cuba, those who worked on the sugar plantation and those who worked in the households of the wealthy in Havana. Cecilia Valdés is a canvas displaying the sexual, social, and racial interaction of the Cubans of the day. Basic render was done in Cinema 4D; rest was done in Photoshop by blending layers and doing some digital painting. / A cinema 4D render (CINEMA 4D is a commercial, cross-platform, high-end 3-D graphics application).
