American bald eagle closeup (captive)
This bald eagle has been a member of SAR, which is a rescue and rehabilitation center for birds of prey. This guy has been with them for 10 years and is not able to be returned to the wild.
This photo was taken at the “Living Desert” a rehabilitation zoo in Palm Desert, CA, several years ago while updating my rehabilitation credentials with Chuck Traisi. / Big Cat Rescue / The Caracal is also called Persian Lynx or African Lynx, its a fircely territorial medium sized cat: males weighing in about 28-40 pounds, while females are smaller; they are about 2 feet long with a tail about a foot long with longer legs and a slimmer appearance than a lynx; the color of the fur is variable; the most conspicuous feature is its elongated, tufted black ears, which also explains the origin of its name – karakulak, Turkish for “black ear”. Recent DNA research has shown that the Caracal is not a close relative of lynxes at all, but is instead related to the Serval and the African Golden Cat. The Caracal is distributed over Africa and western Asia. It is most well-known for its skill with hunting birds; as it is able to snatch a bird in flight, sometimes more than one at a time; it can jump and climb exceptionally well, approximately 3 meters high. In the wild, its life expectancy is about 12 years, while in captivity to about 17 years. Since it is also surprisingly easy to tame, it has been used as a hunting cat in Iran and India. / Because the Caracal is so easily tamed, it is sometimes kept as a pet (as the one pictured was initially) and is said to adapt easily to living with humans. It is almost impossible to see in the wild, because it hides very well. The biggest threat to this mammal is hybridising with domestic cats, to tame its territorial spraying behaviors AND/OR farmers protective of their poultry and cattle. / /

TKRosevear 2008 WOLF Song This shot is from the Julian Wolf Center for Science and Education in California, it was taken before the devastating fires in July of 2002, where a female Mexican wolf and her 3 pups were lost. Their mission is to increase the awareness and understanding of the importance of all wildlife by focusing on the Gray Wolf and it’s subspecies of Alaskan and Mexican Gray Wolves. Founded in 1977 and located in the Cuyamaca Mountains south of Julian, about 50 miles east of SanDiego, it also serves as a regional Biological Field Station teaching the role of predators within the context of their ecosystem. Dispel the FEAR of the “Big Bad Wolf”, it is a myth perpetuated by the greed of MAN raising domestic cattle and sheep for your dinner table… / /

This is a played with photograph of a barn owl that I had rehabilitated several years back, in California. I named him ‘Mystery’ and he lived with us surviving injuries sustained from humans for over 4 months, only to have lost his life to another human affliction…guns, 1 year later. / Owls have long been associated with wisdom and death and this particular rapture and experience began my interests in ‘transitional counsel’... Do I have the strength and love to sit with death, / In the silence that goes beyond words and that last breath; A moment of no fear or pain, just a ceasing body in peace, / like watching a falling star, creating a dream to lease; Aware of our finiteness, unique in every human way / millions of lights in the sky disappear into forever on this day; We bid farewell and celebrate the release from human form / as the journey from life to life weathers griefs’ cyclic storm; Emotions in stages of time and choices towards hope / when embraced, the outcome is hearts’ truth to cope; Faith to accept life’s limits with passion and grace / Creating a legacy of compassion for our loved ones to face; Like the travelling moon, the wind, the year and each day / to the place in the heavens quietness, the flesh passes away. tkrosevear – WindOwl 12/29/08

Barn Owl rehabilitated several years ago, back in California, after being shot and run over by a car. This was taken ( as is) after his healing process of almost 6 months, just prior to release… I called him “Mystery”. Soft darkness of night, a time of deep magick, / Your realm, great owl whose eyes see reality in the darkness. / I would call up wise and deep magicks, / Magicks bold and strong, creating change. This photograph is of a photo (taken by Gordon King) from the newspaper clipping a friend sent to me of a local female Bald Eagle who was just released from rehabilitation from ingesting the remains of a euthanized horse that someone had not disposed of or buried properly. / On this Friday the 13th, as I am not one who has Paraskevidekatriaphobia (fear of Friday the 13th), I have seen this Eagle this morning and I’m calling her LUCKY – lucky that someone had the sense to call Wildlife authorities and they determined she was not dead and savable; lucky that a rehabilitator spent over $1000 to a veterinarian to rid her body of the poisons; Lucky to be able to be released back into the wild; and, lucky to be able to fly… / Onward and Upward as yet another irresponsible human has almost taken the life force from another being – I have been a wildlife rehabilitator for over 20 years, and unfortunately most injuries, poisonings and accidents that brought the animals to me, were from humans not thinking CHOICES completely through to the consequences of whom would be affected. This poem was inspired by a collaboration with aspectsoftmk... / We began with the Great Horned Owl photo INTUITION , adding each of our hands to touch the wisdom… Reaching outward from one self to another / accepting the many significant others Mysteries unfold while tolerance grows / and the truth shines bright, our claims to know Hands held to heart in the silence of joy / awakening the darkness once thought to destroy Mirrors of illusion are broken in trust / haunting memories savored, then ground to dust Released to the Earth, human spirit remains / whilst the EGO we fervently attempt to restrain Intuition is strong towards deep love and hope / seeking wisdom from natures new wider scope All of us related, who are sharing this planet / as ancestors before us have scribed upon granite. tkrosevear 2/25/2009 WindOwl As a Wildlife rehabilitator for the past 20+ years, it saddens me deeply at the loss of Wildlife in Australia’s Bushfires… / Wildlife Appeal here on redbubble is raising money to help to save those animals who have survived the fires, while over a million have perished. / This is available for sale as cards, prints, etc and all profits will be donated to the WRAP organization. As I sat in meditation today, I mindfully opened my eyes and began focusing intentions on rain dousing the bushfires in Australia, this little Joey kept popping into my mind’s eye… The kangaroo is a common marsupial from the islands of Australia and New Guinea. There are 47 species of “roos”. Kangaroos can hop up to 40 miles per hour (74kph) and go over 30 feet (9m) in one hop. These shy animals live about 6 years in the wild and up to 20 years in captivity. Most roos are nocturnal (active at night). Many roos are in danger of extinction, but they are also considered pests due to the way they damage crops. / An adult male is called a ‘buck’, ‘boomer’ or ‘jack’; an adult female is called a ‘doe’, ‘flyer’, ‘roo’ or ‘jill’. A baby is called a ‘joey’. A group of roos is called a “MOB”. / Kangaroos and wallabies range in size from 2 pounds up to 6 feet and 300 pounds. The soft, wooly fur varies in colors of blue, grey, red, black, yellow or brown, depending on the species. Females have a puch in which the young live and drink milk. / These herbivores (plant-eaters) eat grass, leaves, and roots. They swallow their food without chewing it and later regurgitate a cud and chew it. Roos need little water; they can go for months without drinking, and they dig their own water wells. This design is for the Wildlife Appeal and all profits from the sale of any cards, prints and/or posters will be donated to WRAP / Australia has lost almost 100 MILLION animals due to this inferno, so many more need our help. / Rolf Harris & Beatles Pencil sketch photographed and colored with wacom graphic pen/pad and edited in photoshop7 with redfield plug-in
