by WTBirdThis was a rehab owl that I took at a presentation at the Robert G. Wehle Nature Center in Bullock County, Alabama. It was a number of rehab birds (raptors) on display that day. This one was quite photogenic.

Portrait of Amy Winehouse I saw a photo of Amy Winehouse around the time of Halloween last year and thought “Oh Amy Winehouse is dressed as a zombie for a Halloween party…” I soon worked out that it was no costume but Amy on a regular night out, cuts on her face and arms, disheveled appearance, tooth knocked out, ashen complexion, glassy eyed.

Two of my rehab babies posing after they’d had their formula. Notice the wet legs. If I tried to take their picture before they ate, they would be leaping on me before I could shoot. They went free in early 2009 after being wintered-over. The nice thing about rehabbing squirrels is that they wild-up so fast. Praline and Candy were released in eastern NC.

Wildlife Rehabbers help each other during “baby season” As a licensed mammal rehabber, I could only assist with birds under supervision of the Federally licensed people. Baby birds must be fed every 30 minutes from dawn until dusk. That doesn’t leave time for much else. I have helped feed when the numbers became unmanagable and for short periods when rehabbers needed to leave the babies with me. This baby wren was self-feeding and about ready for the flight cage. Some older birds needed to be released to make room. Thanks to the rehabbers at Eastern WIldlife Center, Greenville, NC.

It might not make a huge difference to the eco-system, but it makes a huge difference to the critter. I love raising baby squirrels most, but all babies make me melt.

My granddaughter, Lilly, was wondering if she could take this rescued opossum baby back to California with her. I had to tube feed it and its siblings, so she left it with me in NC. It was released in the wild.

We were able to put these bunnies back in the nest and mama came to move them to a new spot. It’s always best when mama takes care.
