Man of the people, Bob Marley, brilliant lyricist who opened the world’s eyes to reggae music. / Image drawn on paper using felt tip marker pen. Freedom came my way one day / And I started out of town, yeah! / All of a sudden I saw sheriff john brown / Aiming to shoot me down, / So I shot – I shot – I shot him down and I say: / If I am guilty I will pay.
Stewart Copeland, Sting and Andy Summers -three boys who brought a breath of fresh air to the music scene in the eighties with their reggae / punk style music. Currently on a world tour and still going strong. music and musicians ‘Some , / May say / I’m wishing my days away / No way / And if it’s the price I pay / Some say / Tomorrow’s another day / You stay / I may as well play / Keep it up, keep it up’ / WALKING ON THE MOON
Reggae legend , BURNING SPEAR, who just recently told everyone that you can walk! / Trash the car! / You’ve got two legs! / Good for the environment! / Good for you! music and musicians “Get up ya country / WALK! / Australia, / WALK! / Jamaica, / WALK, / New Caledonia, / WALK! / You can, / WALK, WALK, WALK,WALK, WALK! / Get up ya country, / WALK! / Let’s keep on moving….. / You can WALK, WALK, WALK, WALK, WALK! / Get up ya country, / WALK!”
I work in a recording studio and the French reggae group Sinsemilia were posing in a vintage T-Bird in the parking lot. I used Photoshop to put them in the Painted Desert with a couple of crows from the Rocky Mountains and a no-swimming sign from the Florida Everglades. The bumper reflected the cobble stones from the parking lot so I had to clone in some desert floor to make it plausible. The Belgian license plate was changed to spell the title of their album, pronounced too-skon-a (meaning “all we’ve got”) I made it a square format so they could use it for their CD cover, but alas, even though they really dug the picture, they’d already arranged the artwork. Grin & bear it!

Marley Mandala commissioned for friends 21st birthday – Happy Birthday Alannah! / Acrylic on canvas. Hair is the symbolic antenna of the body, connecting us with the divine. So Bob Marleys dreads connect him with the divine and with us, through his amazing music. It has taken me two and a half years to listen to “Redemption Song” again without bursting into tears (it was played at my late partners funeral) – but when I was painting this mandala, I put on my Marley CD and listened to it in entirety – including Redemption Song. I finally put it all to rest when I picked up my guitar and played it. “These songs of freedom…”
Bob Marley some awesome simple lyrics.

Music is in everything that we do. And if you don’t have music in your life, then you don’t have life.
‘Dub’ has become a term for almost any musical piece that utilizes the remixing of prerecorded sound as a mode of artistic expression. Taking the separate entities of a musical track and remixing them into a completely new selection has become a popular process, and can be found in a variety of genres ranging anywhere from hip-hop remixes and mash-ups to metal. Many listeners do not sense the Jamaican roots, and are unaware that this technique started with Jamaican rocksteady and reggae. “Dubbing” became popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s by the great sound system engineers of Jamaica. The mixing engineers acknowledged their importance in recordings by treating the mixing board as an instrument, and the resulting dub craze that occurred in Jamaica in the mid 1970s further established the mixing engineer as an artist. / For the first time in recorded music, the ‘sound’ of a recording became connected not only with the musicians and the producer, but with the mixing engineer as well. / The amplitude of success that these “versions” and “dubs” received allowed for a completely new style of musical composition that would be shared amongst a wide selection of musical genres that made today’s music. Show your love to the dub process with this dedicated Tee !
