I can still remember my very first camera that my parents had given to me when I was about 8 years old. I took that camera everywhere and snapped shots of anything and everything, however it wasn’t until much later in life that I was really bitten by the photography bug. I was planning a big move to the Canadian Rockies and thought now is the perfect time to buy my new camera gear for shooting wildlife. I bought all the equipment I needed that would put me up close with all the wildlife that the mountains had to offer. So off I went chasing Bears, Bighorn sheep, Moose, Elk and Wolves… pretty much any critter I could capture with my lens. It was a fascinating and thrilling experience. Then fate brought to me a girl and she would change my life forever… Newfoundland is where I now call home, with my beautiful wife and baby son. This province is a photographer’s paradise. The scenes change from day to day and the opportunities for capturing them are endless. With my camera in tow I now begin my journey through Newfoundland, photographing and capturing her raw and rugged beauty to share with the world. I hope you enjoy the photographs presented here. The rugged and treacherous coastlines give way only to the unforgiving North Atlantic Ocean. It is a coastline marked with lighthouses that act as ever watching sentinels to welcome weary travellers home. It is a land of beautiful & quaint coastal towns, villages and cities. Newfoundland is a land visited by frozen giants from the North that create a sense of awe when seen by human eyes as they float down what is known as “Iceberg alley”. It is a land visited by massive whales during the summer that attract multitudes to the shorelines. It is a land rich in history and folklore and it is a land inhabited by a people who will welcome you with open arms. It is a land you need to visit… Newfoundland… In Living Color, captures the raw and rugged beauty of a landscape still yet untouched and marred by man’s corrupt hand. It is a tribute to a true Eden and its people that dwell there. / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / SOME OF MY FAVS / click on the image to link to that image / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Shot on the Wildlife Refuge near Lawton, Oklahoma. Big bushes with seed pods on the end. Early spring. Cloudy day… even sprinkled a few times. March 2009 Nikon D80 / Not altered. Early morning at Santa Cruz, California Monarch refuge, before the air temperature warms and these delicate blossoms dissipate into the winds. Taken with 500 mm lens and 1.4 extender.
A couple of rocks offering a resting place to a pair of leaves. The intriguing thing about this shot as you walked downstream the golden reflection of the trees above disapears. I was shocked to see this vivid color as I walked to a point cross stream. Needless to say I just about tumbled into the water because I was so excited to enjoy this view.
La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

Cape Schanck on a mild, but windy Sunday evening as the tide sucked the water over the rocks at sunset. And in the distance, is Simone Byrne, trekking on the rocks, looking for the next shot. One thing about Logan, Utah, is that the weather can change on a dime. One minute the sun is shining, the next, it clouds over and rains/snows/hails, then it’s back to sun again. Spring is really unpredictable, and I love it!! Here is a view of the Wellsville mountains about 6 miles from me, and the Bear River National Wildlilfe Refuge with the addition of my lovely Black Swan and a few other extras, of course… ;-)
A rescued Arctic wolf, Willow had never seen grass before she came to the Refuge. She had previously been kept in a small cage with no room to run. She now has 48 acres of space. The normal range of an arctic wolf is 200 miles.

Pine trees – many dead or dying – silhouetted by the rising sun filtered through morning fog. Salt water from the Gulf of Mexico has seeped farther inland, killing many of the slash pines in this part of the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, on Florida’s eastern panhandle gulf coast. Photographed with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 (10MP/12x Leica lens).

A Nesting Pair of Great Blue Herons don’t mind the photographers capturing their private moments at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Florida during the mating season last year.
Here’s a photograph I took today of the Refuge Hut which is about half way across the half mile long causeway leading over to Lindisfarne (Holy Island).
I was sitting on this Turkey Vulture waiting to capture a typical Vulture launch from this tree stub when, KA-POW!... , a Red Shouldered Hawk swooped down and knocked this Vulture off his branch. I was stunned to see this same hawk do it again seconds later. / Nothing like good neighbors on the street I guess!
Lake Martin is one of my favorite places; every sunset is unique and different but always tranquil and peaceful. On this particular evening, the sky was aflame with light and the dark cypress trees stood in stark contrast to the brilliant colors of the sunset.
A Great Blue Heron comes out of the grass and goes airborne at Savannas Preserve, Port St Lucie, Florida.
A primitive lighthouse with some historical value, otherwise a very beautiful place to have a picnic….
We had the honor of going to the White Wolf Sanctuary last weekend. Located by the Oregon Coast (near Walport) it truly was a memorable experience. We had no idea that we would get to interact with these beautiful animals. It was an experience that will stick with me for life. One of those big “wow” moments. / All proceeds of the wolf pictures will go to the White Wolf Sanctuary. 100% of the sale price will go to the sanctuary plus I will donate an equal amount (200 % to the wolves). / If you live in the Oregon/Washington area it is such a short drive for an awesome experience. More to follow on the wolves.
