  • The issue with shooting in winter is the incredible winds that descend down the mountains and thus disturbing water surfaces. I had searched many lakes in the Lake Coleridge area, and eventually found Henrietta nestled in narrow valley with not an ounce of wind. The problem was getting to the waters edge to create a simplistic composition with only sky and water; i had to trudge through knee high marsh lands and hadn’t brought along waders, and had to find solid landings so that my tripod didn’t sink. Oh well, the effort was worth it.

  • I had spent a fair bit of my time traveling quite some distances to seek striking scenery and decided at last to explore local coastal locations near Christchurch, my base each night. About 30 mins drive along a spectacular coastal road, thru the Lyttelton Tunnel, you get to some fantastic little bays and coves with holiday homes dotted throughout. The bays are refuged from big seas from the Pacific, and i found many yachts anchored in quiet locations. This whole area is prime for summer type sunset / rises when coastal breezes are light, with less water disturbance. i will return here in the future i believe during this period.

  • I was out photographing the sunrise over Lake Tekapo in New Zealand’s South Island, when I turned around and noticed the reflection in the old church window.

  • After a day of driving, meetings and then taking in the southern most mainland point of New Zealand, it was time for dinner. Unfortunately after driving around looking for somewhere open for dinner, I found a nice restaurant – only to be told that the kitchen was closed! Back into the car. Fortunately, on the way back to Invercargill, I decided on a whim to turn off the main road to have a look around town. Two elements of luck came into play. / i) the road I turned into was the road to the Bluff lookout. / ii) I got to enjoy the most beautiful sunset light breaking through heavy storm clouds. I hope you enjoy it too.

  • Sometimes it’s not the tourist attractions you remember about a city. It’s often the overlooked places that make you realise a city is more than just a glossy brochure. That a city is really an ever changing entity with multiple moods and personalities. Wellington, New Zealand
