My first time out in the kayak this Spring brought me to Powder Creek Reservoir in NE Nebraska. This small prairie lake was filled with waterfowl of all kinds and I also met a very brave baby beaver as I skimmed the shoreline. I am always reluctant to carry my camera with me in the kayak when I first explore a lake so I was unable to get his picture but as the evening wore on, and the reflections on the water grew more fascinating, the gamble of losing my gear in the water seemed worth the risk of bringing it into the boat. / These two black ducks were sharing a small space of fallen tree protruding from the water. The reflections are from surrounding trees which are all bare and make the lake such a beautiful place in the evenings. /
