On a hot June day, a grasshopper perches on a bayonet blade in a American Civil War reenactor’s camp.
The gathering is a group of people that attend history reenactment days across the state of North Carolina. They dress in period clothes and demonstrate how things worked/were done in years past. This group also played various instruments and tunes from the late 1800’s.

Title is Russian for “Russian Patrol” A Russian reenactor allowed me to snap a few photos of him during the 2008 History Alive event down at Ft Lytton. It’s amazing the amount of effort they put into their costumes Taken with a canon 400d

This lady is hot. During Wyatt Earp Days in Tombstone, AZ, one hundred or more folks show up in full regalia of days gone by and put on quite a show. Skits, contests, and general socializing swirl through the dusty streets and board walks and one is transported back to days gone by. Great place for photographers. This Mexican bandit was a Tombstone reenactor at the Rendezvous of the Gunfighters. The pic has been layer a bit to give the feeling of age. Taken in natural light with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 Featured in Tone It Down 9/28/09
This young girl was barely awake as an Old West skit played out in the street. Gunfire made her start and open her eyes. She has the perfect face of a Geisha and from what little I could see through the crowd she was possibly dressed in a white kimono. At any rate, her lovely face was too beautiful to pass up. A party to the late 1800s dress up during Helldorado Days in Tombstone, AZ. this saloon gal seemed to have tired of the whole proceedings by the third day of festivities. She spent most of the time Sunday decorating a bench on the boardwalk. Very aware of every camera in the area, at least I caught her without a huge grin. Pretty much guarantee that hair is a wig. Can’t swear he’s Apache, but he is certainly Indian and in the right place for Apache. His braid hangs well past his shoulder blades. Wouldn’t swear he’s a real policeman either as he’s dressed for Vigilante Days in Tombstone, AZ and participated in skits in the afternoon. But he’s great local color, and a change from the all white faces of the majority of reenactors. Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 in natural light Featured in Happy Haven Photography 8/19/09
The Rendezvous of the Gunfighters in Tombstone, AZ brought forth a whole new cast of characters over the weekend. Unfortunately, one had to work very hard at catching thought provoking and candid shots of these reenactors as most were very camera conscious and constantly struck “poses.” Diligence paid off. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 taken in natural light This fellow was probably intending to portray Buffalo Bill, but he was so big, that he struck me more as a mountain man. With all the hair, he certainly would have made an attractive scalp for a marauding Indian. Look close, there’s a lady reflected in his specs. Just had to try this guy in Black and white. I found this fella lounging against a hitching post at Vigilante Days in Tombstone, AZ. I don’t know which tribe he’s supposed to represent, but I thought he had an interesting face. Visiting attire for the turn of the Century, the last Century. This lady’s period piece dates to the late 1890s and is authentic to the last button. She’s displaying her lovely attire at the Tombstone, AZ Vigilante Days and is part of a group of reenactors known as Vigilantettes. Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC=FZ 18
The musicians played all morning, then participated in Vigilante Days skits in the afternoon in Tombstone, AZ. The instruments were all miked, so the music drifted down the dusty streets, swirling among the many tourists, reenactors, and photographers. This lady is dolled up for a skit at Vigilante Days in Tombstone, Az. With such a gorgeous outfit, it’s too bad she missed the fashion show held earlier. Whether she’s portraying a business woman , a madame, a ranch woman, or even a cowgirl come to town, she sure cleans up nice. This fella spent the day, during Vigilante Days in Tombstone, AZ, wandering the boardwalks. He was so thin he looked like an imaginary line drawn through his clothes, perfect for the wan tones of sepia. I suppose he was in a skit later in the day, but I don’t know how he had the strength. Tombstone became a town after the first silver claim was staked in 1877. Silver mining made the town which boomed until the turn of the last century. Later manganese and lead mining sustained the town until after WW II. Now tourism and ranching are the primary industries. These ladies are patiently waiting for the street Fashion Show to start at Vigilante Days in Tombstone, AZ. They are all wearing period clothes that date between 1875 and 1910, although only the smallest of the ladies are wearing actual attire from that period. On the others, everything from the high button shoes and striped hose to the hats and parasols have been meticulously reproduced. Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18. Not that you can actually see the ankle. I suppose the striped socks or the pantaloons might get a hot blooded male excited. I’m amazed that these modern day ladies can put on all these clothes, especially in the middle of an Arizona summer in Tombstone, AZ and parade about in the sun showing off their finery. Just thinking about it makes me sweat. That ladies did it daily in the 1880s is beyond imagination. Again layers for a little age.
