  • In the heart of the Otway Ranges in Southern Victoria there is a plantation of tall Californian Redwoods that were planted early last century. These trees stand distinctly apart from the surrounding eucalypt forest. / ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • Planted around 1910 Cape Otway has a small but magnificent stand of Californian Redwood Trees – Through the middle of them runs this stunning creek, it feels incredibly primordial to me.

  • A bridge in the Redwood National Forest in Northern California. It was a beautifully foggy morning among the trees. What more could you ask for? The light was shooting down between the trees and illuminating the bridge, I’m so glad i got to be there. They have since refinished the bridge, I’ve tried to go back and shoot it again but it just doesn’t look the same. Blog / Email Me / Galleries

  • This image won the Forest challenge in the Northern California Style group on May 3, 2009. This image was featured on March 26, 2009 by the JPG Cast-Offs group. Morning Rays… The redwood forest of northern California had been shady and dark for the most part on this October morning in 2004 . But when we rounded the curve on this section of the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, the sun’s morning rays were filtering downward in angled beams of bright light onto the roadway. The parkway is located between Orick and Klamath, California. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. • This was the other photograph from my day at the Zoo. I see the sun rise in the distance as I wait for you my love. / You promised me your swift arrival filled with love for me. / I wait as told for your arrival in your favorite place. / But here I sit and you’ve not come its been forever and a day. / This is the place where we first kissed it seemed like yesterday. / The years have passed too fast as they always do. / I sit and wait for you to come to comfort me this day. / But like the days before this one your presence is not felt. / I sit and wait for you to come have you forgotten me? / We talked about this special place that meant so much to us. / It was here that I first stole a kiss and caused your face to blush. / And here was where we made our plans if we might wed. / And it’s here that I gave you a ring to say you were my love. / And here it was that you told me you would have my son. / I wait for you before the sun each and every morning. / Its bright rays sing your name as I wait for you. / But no where in the distant do I see your smile. / Have you forgotten me my love I wait for you to come? / You passed so many years ago did you forget your promise? / I’ll wait for you forever more I’ve not forgotten you. / And with the passing of my soul I’ll wait and wait for you. / Until the sun comes no more I’ll sit and wait for you. /

  • This shot is one half of my accidental collage shot oops . It was taken after one of the worst night sleeps I’ve ever had when we camped next to these redwoods in the Otways. At about 2:30 a huge logging truck drove past on the road about 10 meters from our tent, other trucks followed at intervals just long enough to allow you to dose off again. This continued until about 6:00am when the WMD’s finally ceased. Took this shot not long after that in the first light of the day. Sold two 8”x12” framed prints of this one, not a terribly original composition but popular all the same. For more pictures from this area check out my The Otways gallery.

  • I ran across this wonderful carving in the redwood forest and just had to take a photo. There are some wonderful wood carvers in the forest who work simply with a chain saw and raw talent. /

  • This image placed fifth in the Seascapes challenge on June 2, 2009. This image was featured in the JPG Cast-offs Group on April 18, 2009 . A seagull soars over seastacks on the north California coast near Crescent City. Seastacks are geological formations that are formed when part of rocky coastline cliffs are eroded by the force of the crashing seas. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please do not copy or download this image. • Had to walk a mile in the snow to see this beauty.

  • Had to walk a mile in the snow to see this tunnel tree. In my youth I am sure I drove through this in an automobile with my family. It is dead now and time has left it’s mark in many ways…

  • The Giant Redwood National Park, California, USA, contains the tallest living things on earth, evergreen trees that grow to 350 feet. For me personally, not the most beautiful tree, biggest isn’t always best, but it is pretty overwhelming and magical to walk through on one of the many popular trails that exist here, and to gaze upwards, a neck-breaking experience ! I feel they are best seen in the mist, adding an air of mystery ! / My fave trees ? The Scots Pine and the Silver Birch of course ! Shot on my Canon EOS 20D,mounted on tripod, f11, 1 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in Photomatix, single file pseudo HDR, adjusted in Adobe Camera RAW, then in CS3 I applied the Orton effect to emphasise the textures on the trunks, reducing the opacities for the final result.
