Well folks, what a day ! As we posted last night – the ‘winner’ of the black and white category was found not to own the image. We have subsequently been in touch with the owner of the image and have invited him to join RedBubble and be recognized for his image . This leaves us with a prize giving dilemma – We’ve discussed this and decided that the fair solution is to grant Sharad, the owner of the image one of the runners up prizes, as he had not actually ‘entered’ the competition under the rules. We will re-consider all the runners up and award the Leica prize to one of the runners up on Monday. James.

Following on from the ‘problems’ last friday – and the promised resolution Let me be the first to congratulate Craig Goldsmith for his fantastic image – selected as the recipient of that o-so-gorgeous Leica. James

RedBubble’s decision to censor works of political criticism that feature the US flag is to be strongly deplored. The works criticised the policies of the US as promulgated by their president and in no way insinuated that any other individuals were to blame. They can be seen > probably for the next nanosecond > here I am unwilling to continue to contribute to an online community that bows to the lowest common denominator and folds at the first whinge from narrow-minded bigots. Redbubble directly profits from the development of community – but if it cannot be trusted to uphold reasonable freedom of expression then it should not profit from the creativity of those it will not support. When Mick’s work is removed, I will be removing my own. I ask everyone of good faith and belief in freedom of expression to do the same. I will also be writing to redbubble’s admin to make my case and explain why I think that they are wrong.

I had the pleasure of meeting RBer Loredana Crupi yesterday, visiting New York from Melbourne. We were pressed for time and hopefully will be able t meet at greater leisure to explore mutual interests and have more fun playing dueling cameras before she heads back for Melbourne at the end of December. Meanwhile, these are some shots I took: Lora’s got a few pictures of me on her journal too.

I see a lot of strong black and white, and monochrome, showing up along with the spectacular color. / And let me take this opportunity to thank you again for the extent to which you all enhance my visual experience and knowledge. I am filled with admiration for the photographers here, your skill, the unusual subject matter, brilliant captures of impossible color and shadow, and sense of play. / I’m a generation’s difference at least to many of you, and the photographers much present in my growing up life are not the same ones you know. When I posted the portrait I did of Georgia O’Keeffe, using the Alfred Stieglitz photograph of her, I was surprised that he was unknown to many. So if you’d had some pleasure in discovering these Americans of yore, may I direct you to a few other favorites of mine? / One, a photographer of the north west wilderness & Yosemite, who trudged around mountains with a huge Hasselblad, or Agfa or one of its ancient view camera relatives, is Ansel Adams. He was famous for long exposures and a brand new crystal clarity in pictures that few equaled. / Two, (also three four & five) The Weston family: Brett, Edward, and Cole. The latter recently passed away. The whole family did brilliant work, Brett’s my favorite, he worked in the forties, possibly into the 80’s, the family lived long lives. I know them from the area I live in and their ongoing fame in San Francisco, they’re locals survived by grandchildren keeping their galleries and memories alive. Again, pioneers in black and white film, and people whose work may interest the fine practitioners here. I wish I had the sense to put a link here, but if you type in any of their names, pages of their work appear. I hope it’s a good romp for newcomers to these boys.

One thing that has both attracted and frustrated me about Redbubble is that it is also driven by interest in the person, not just the art. This is one of the aspects that makes it such a great community site at times, because you really feel that people are interested in what you’re expressing, and very encouraging and supporting. One negative to this is that often, if you don’t participate, you can see interest waning in your creative output, and this pressure to participate is one that I’ve felt less of an urge to give in to lately for various reasons both personal and circumstantial. It is a little inconsistent not to provide the same level of encouragement that I felt when I began here, but longetivity here can also lead to a kind of burnout and disconnection about what excited you in the first place. It’s one of the great ironies that you want people to look at and understand your work, but the more you progress the more you feel it’s important to please yourself first and foremost about it and feel comfortable with the level of your craft and integrity of expression. In the process you start to forget the things you liked, and what you liked about what other people do. So, with the intent to find a more level ground to stand on and re-enthuse myself about my commitment here, I’m starting a process of folio renovation prior to re-imagining my online activity and launching the brand identity of transmutephoto 195 works with 72 432 views / It’s a great exercise to look back over everything I’ve uploaded over the 2 and a bit years, and read some of the comments. There are many people there that I’ve got to know in the real world, and many whom I’ve interacted with a lot online. There are also many who fell by the wayside, some that are still here, and I feel a little remiss about. It’s kind of like a big continual party that ebbs and flows, and I’ve had many extraordinarily enriching (and some awkward) experiences with people both on and off line here. Most of these images will disappear and not be uploaded here or anywhere else. Some may resurface after reworking here or on another site. If there’s anything you really like and would like to know the fate of, bubblemail me and ask. The images that remain will be retagged and re-organised to best suit a more sales-oriented approach and a more cohesive vision. Some of them maybe replaced by a revised version, or may also eventually be removed if they don’t fit the vision. At this stage, I’m looking at getting it to a more manageable size. Some of these images were quite popular in their time and a few have over 500 views and a number of favoutings, but they are now no longer generally viewed. A lot of them are more popular than the ones I’m keeping, but a lot of what I’m keeping are images that I like regardless, or that fit with everything else. It’s an evolving process. A lot of them bring back memories and stories for me about where I was at the time. The people around me, my thought processes and feelings. They’re like little multi-dimensional slices of time that come to life again every time I look at them and it feels a little like erasing a legacy. So, I’ll see you around the bubble sometime :)

The Art/T-Shirt Club! Want your art sold? We all feel your pain but in these harder times we have to come together! So this is the best way we can do just that… / To join us in getting your art sold … You simply need to make a purchase, whether it’s a Card, T-Shirt or Wall-Art from anyone on Redbubble but after the first artist makes a purchase then all the following artists need to buy something from one of the artists who have made a purchase below! / You can also join by listing what you’ve bought in the past but for those / who haven’t bought anything please consider when you have the money to buy something from someone who has posted or buy something that they post. This way everyone will / get something sold! This is how I see it… / We shop in stores like Wal-Mart and the mall which are all run by millionaires and raise prices while under paying most of their workers. / So why always give your money to them when you can spend with the truly / creative people like on RB? You can post a comment to this but to join post something that you purchased from anyone on Redbubble but if someone’s posted already shop in their gallery and join our movement! Thanks to everyone who makes RB a great website to display and sell / on! Currently there are no purchases of someone who posted here, why not be the first? When you leave this message without favoriting it….Let the force be with you…because you’re on your own baby! :)

Terrific news!! Some wonderful person just purchased 3 things from me, all in the shape of baby bulls…and I am thrilled, thank you so much!!! / / A matted print of Baby Bull Production Baby Bull Production is something I created not that long ago. It’s a mixed media piece on canvas textured paper……i did it in response to the chilled out cows at Mullumbimby, northern New South Wales, who seem to be very laid back, i suspect they are indulging in the ‘other’ kind of grass also……. they have this real chilled look about them, and I’ve never seen cows anywhere else that have this way about them. I put it in the Casino Art Exhibition and it was the only painting that sold, every year a male school teacher goes to that show, or so the legend goes…….and purchases a piece……it was my lucky year. Tonight I was asked if I’d ever sold a painting in a gallery…well, yes, and at exhibitions and privately. To date I believe I have sold between 30 and 40 original paintings, which I am very proud of…..in the early days 2002 I was very prolific, things have slowed down a bit with my painting now, because i am much more deliberate and take a lot of time to imbue my paintings with layers and love and depth…..it is just how i have grown as an artist, it is nice to report that there is growth along the journey…(and sales lol)!!! Somebody also has a print of these cows and loves them very much from what I understand lol You may recall/or not, that Baby Bull Production was featured in the “Griffith Review” University Publication… quite a few months ago I was honoured to be contacted by the Griffith REVIEW which is a publication of topical essays, memoirs and reports by some of the best writers and artists Australia has to offer, which is put out by Griffith University 4 times a year in the form of a book / A matted print of Moo Cow Sunrise Family Moo Cow Sunrise is usually over at my other Red Bubble Shop called Migaloomagic but I need to order a few things, and it saves me postage if I upload this design to my main portfolio. Many of you will have probably seen it before, if so, please don’t feel you need to comment. There is a lovely calendar available from my Migaloomagic store also full of bright beautiful happy kids images, just perfect for going back to school and keeping track of time :) / Baby Bull Production TShirt Thank you again :)

Xmas Tree Hugs to everyone!!! The Season is truly upon us hey….busy people bustling everywhere, the heat’s a shocker in these parts too, and the only joy I find in shopping is the air conditioning !! My car has no air cond…so I look like a drowned and cranky rat by the time I enter the cool interiors of the shops…and I am sure the retailers look upon me with suspicion as i loiter in cool doorways pretending to be interested in Christmas goodies…lol / Tree Hugs Oh how I yearn for a wintery Christmas, just once!! just once!!! oh puleeeeeze, this heat is killin’ me…. at least I have air con in my studio….so it’s an enticement to create more art than usual….perhaps I will be more productive as I slink out into my studio for some much needed cool refreshment….oh if only I had a loo out there (and a bed might be a nice addition too) however I do have a lounge…upon which I found a lovely redback spider crawling just 2 day ago….so i doubt i’ll be getting tooooo comfy out there any time soon!! Also i would very much like a drip feed for coffee…anything that helps prolong my stay in the shed….of course i can make coffee out there…but the constant trips back inside the house to the loo are somewhat distracting….one, i need the coffee to stay awake, I need the cool air to keep me alive and moving, but both these things cause too many toilet trips…so Santa….what say you to some plumbing??? / Tree Hugs the unadulterated drawing now the real reason for this journal, to thank you delightful NinaMosi for purchasing a card of Tree Hug * Please visit Nina’s portfolio if you’re ever out her way in bubblyland…she does fabulous encaustic artwork that will not disappoint… it’s gorgeous stuff…plus she’s a sweetheart… you may wanna get to know her too :) Thank you Nina, and thank you everyone, and thank you Santa for listening if you’re out there….looks like a big storm over my place is gonna bust the heat right outa this joint PS:* QUESTION What are you guys doing for Christmas this year? Is it hot or cold where you live right now….what sort of yummy food will you be eating, family traditions, etc? bfn / luv yas / KT
