The traditional classic chinese word “ai” (love) consist of the word “xing” (heart) at its core. “Ai Xing” in mandarin means “loving heart”. I have simply highlighted the core word “xing” in red to show the meaning of loving heart. “While some simplified characters were adopted from conventional abbreviated forms that have existed for a long time, the vast majority of the changes made by PRC were “unnatural” such as the removal of the symbol for heart (心) from the word love (愛) into the new character (爱).” (Wikipedia) This word is hand-written by me (using a wacom pen & tablet). This t-shirt design is currently only available from RB. A memorial. The focus is a bit off.. A well. Naturally occurring dew drops :) I was walking home from the bus stop with a friend, and the gutters were lined with leaves. This leaf covered with dew drops stood out to me, so I carried it home precariously and made my friend wait for me as I took pictures! / As is.

In his sumptuous exploration of food images (Food in Painting), Kenneth Bendiner states, that ” food for the art historian can be the one area where conscious rules and dignified ideas need not hold sway - the real urges and concerns of a painter or his society can rise to the surface. There’s a certain freedom in the margins of art - where experiments and indulgence can operate—in other words more can be learned about someone from his backyard, than from the street façade of his house.” The latest painting from the series” Delicious” is “Scone with Berries and Cream. The Berries are a type of black berry, available all year round here… Watercolour on Arches Paper…Featured in Happy Haven… I grew up in a society where tea time was sacrosanct… dashing into the house after school, at four o’clock in the afternoon straight to the table which tea was laid, was an everyday thing… the weather was hot and the tea was refreshing… after several cups, one felt at peace with the world. Clotted Cream came from England in jars or tins but my mother also whipped up a wonderful cream from the top of the milk that came straight to our home from a neighboring farm every day…dinner was much later on in the evening ... You and I are great souls. / And we come together for a time. / We meet over a cup of tea here on earth. Shall we leave our shell and join with each other? / Shall we put down our shield and armor? / What will become of us if we do? / What horrible fate awaits us if we are defenseless? Tea is a time for love and tenderness without fear. / It is a time for sharing and learning and growing. / Come now, leave the battle gear behind. / Brave with me and let’s have tea. / I find the patina of age very intriguing and exciting to recreate in paint…I always have cuts of MDF and Masonite primed with gesso waiting in the wings, ready for when inspiration hits me…lately I’ve been preoccupied with doors and things to do with doors….I made this door old…very old…it has withstood the test of time and all kinds of weather and has been painted many times, attesting to a tale of many owners…lately someone dressed it with a shiny new red door knob…why? if it could talk it would tell many stories....
