Hi Guys, I’m very inquisitive and curious by nature and sometimes that gets the better of me, I’ve been thinking I’d like to ask you some questions now and then, just a few for you today :) 1. How did you hear about redbubble initially? 2. Why do you love redbubble? 3. What keeps you coming back to red bubble? I’d really appreciate your feedback :) This is purely my own initiative by the way, just wondering and pondering life as usual …

Hi guys and gals well yep i’m back but i’m limiting my time on the bubble as i have been way to absorbed in it over the past 6 mths so apologies in advance if i miss your work. / As alot of you know i have a young family and i need to spend more quality time with them instead of getting square eyes and sitting on my arse. / I will still be here but probably only a couple of hours a day ok!!!

Oh. My. Gawd. It’s a monday evening. I drove home from Uni, threw my bag somewhere near my study desk, and collapsed onto bed. But something made me get up from that ‘comfort place’ of mine and so I hopped onto RB. And guess what I saw… This was the copy which was sent to my bubblemail: Keegan The Sunday Times is wanting to do an article on RedBubble and is wanting to use your image “Taking Love to New Heights” to illustrate it. Are you happy for you image to be used in this way. You would receive full acknowledgement of course. Kind regards Martin I am gobsmacked. Throw me out the window or not…I don’t know whether this is a good or bad thing. So The Sunday TImes wants to feature RB artists…why choose my work over so many other great pieces of art which I see on a daily basis? To be honest, I’ve never received such an honour before for my photographs. But one thing’s for sure though, it certainly made Keegan’s day to know that my art is reaching many people out there whom I don’t even know. So for that…I would just like to say thank you to all my viewers, and of course, to Red Bubble. For everything.

Ye-gods!! I don’t normally write in my journal but tonight I feel strangely compelled to. In the words of Peter Garret of old I feel like “Somebody’s got you on that treadmill mate”! If you know Midnight Oil you’ll probably know the the song…although it actually escapes my memory at present….hmm….oh well! Alas, I digress. Work and life have been so ridiculously busy that I just haven’t had the time to do some of the stuff I love most – like photography and perusing the Bubble and catching up with all of you most wonderful folk! Roll on Xmas and some time off… It has been sooo long since I last did anything constructive on here that I didn’t even notice I’d well and truly clicked over the 10,000 viewed mark. A small achievement compared with many of the incredibly talented people in the amazing Red Bubble community, but one which I thought I’d mention anyway – even though I’m not one for blowing my own trumpet. It just reminded me how little time I’ve had (or made?) for some of the finer things in life. Anyway, here’s a toast to doing the things we enjoy most, spending quality time with the friends and family we love, and appreciating how lucky most of us are to be able to tap into this amazing thing called the Bubble! In case I’m still flat out over the next few weeks – Merry Xmas!! Lol!

Just reading that should make one say, “What the hell??? There’s no murder depicted here! There’s no mutilation shown! No images of porn or nude babies are allowed! What the hell is your problem, Lenny, and why are you even talking about censorship as a positive thing in an artist’s community?” Here is a copy of the comments I just wrote after viewing an image of illegal street art/graffiti: If not for the nasty fact that my white van has just been sprayed by huge black gang signs – for the third time – I might be able to find the interest in asswipes defacing property. But it’s just a bit too difficult after getting up to face the drive to work with more of their advertising being displayed on my commute. And what can I do? Well, I can paint over it and give them a fresh white surface. Or paint it black and give them an alternative look. I can forget about it and just wait for them to cover it all for me, perhaps making it look more artistic than destructive. Or I can sleep in the van with a gun and wait. Of course, I can’t actually use the gun: even my brandishing it unloaded is a greater crime than their ruining my property repeatedly. I can’t hold them for police because I can’t make a citizen’s arrest for vandalism. But I can jump out, photograph them (hopefully scare them off before they smash the camera, my head, or both), and report the latest incident to the police answering machine. Then I could pretend to show the cops when the cops pretend to respond. Should we as artists elevate scum to our level by displaying their meanness? I know I have in several pieces on mine. I know I’ll never do it again and will edit out both any future graffiti and the crime displayed here in my Red Bubble gallery to date. I’m sorry but I think it’s time to make a stand for the people who create using their own pallets, not destroying someone’s property to do so. Looks like when something hits home enough, it eventually leaves enough emotional and personal damage to make one want to stop it. I’ve reached that point. I am not angry. I’m not even frustrated with the way things are here in Red Bubble with the depiction of crime. What bothers me is that I’m doing what the criminals want most desperately to do: promoting their crimes. Are there people who are in Red Bubble as legitimate artists wasting their time trashing my property? I don’t know but I doubt it. Are there idiot people who just happen along and see illegal crap? Undoubtedly. Does having it here cause crime? No way to tell. We can’t even agree if ANY depictions of actions cause people to do things. But we as a society don’t allow child porn because we don’t want it to have even the slightest ability to influence. We don’t allow graphic sex – even consensual contact between legally permitted partners – in Red Bubble, and the line is a lot blurrier when it comes to “influence” in this regard. How many illegal acts are legally depicted in Red Bubble? I don’t think there are any and I feel confident that The Powers That Be in this wonderful site wouldn’t allow them if found. Yet public display of female nudity is illegal in some societies so is Red Bubble picking and choosing which crimes to allow and which to ban? I don’t know the answers and I don’t pretend to. I’m not looking for anything here but public acknowledgment of my changed viewpoint regarding defacto promotion of vandalism. Vandalism is a crime. Showing it online spreads the ability for it to be seen on a much wider scale. Calling it art is to demean ourselves. I propose the voluntary removal of artwork showing the criminal activity of graffiti and I propose strong editing of graffiti in pieces that are art but have this crime as an element in them. This isn’t a Red Bubble issue; this is a united artists’ issue and one we, as artists, need to consider to raise the bar above the human trash with the simple want and ability to do something criminal while having us call it otherwise. We, as artists, do not need to validate criminal vandalism by calling it art. We, as artists, don’t need to change criminal thought or make laws regarding it. But we, as artists, can take a stand refusing to promote a crime by elevating it to the equality of fine art we create and enjoy inside Red Bubble.

Its come to my attention now, that Redbubble is getting so big, that everyone has anywhere between 150 – 200 people on their watchlist. The thing i’m noticing more is the fact that this means less and less views/comments per individual. For example, when I first started Redbubble just on a year ago, i’d rack up 100+ views on 1 pic in a day at the most 2. But nowadays, in the last 2 weeks, I have put up around 5 new photo’s that struggle to get 100 views between them even still now. Now Is this because the quality of my photo’s are just not as good as they were 1 year ago (Which I Hope is not the case), or the fact that everyones news feed is so clogged up everytime they log on because of all their “Watchlist,” that its a case of last in only served? I’m not one to go “whoring” myself around on sites like this. Adding Myself to 250 Groups. Posting random pictures and blogs/journals of anything only to get my profile stats up, just to get my name on the news reel. All that kind of gear that alot of people seem to be doing these days. So what are your thoughts?

today your group gave me the honor of being a featured artist. i have to say i choked up at the sight. to take my works from chappel photo and from earhart chappel. showed me so much, as an artist and a woman. / penelope my babe was the first in the feature. my love my reason.to see her on the grass with her fairy wings in delight..took me away.she is my butterfly and i have said for so long she should be free to fly.that pic at the start held such meaning for me. / i do know i submitted the photos, and my chappel photo pics were entered as i could not figure out, the cap on my earhart chappel colab site..i am not good on the computer! / but seeing all the photos grouped today. i picked each one for a reason.but somewhere along the line.instead of showing how i developed as a photographer on rb form the past (soon it will be a year). it showed me more of me looking in at my life over the last year. / from the hotel room when i realized my marriage was falling apart / to nyc rocky start, where the image of musical instruments caught my eye, and when the pic was uploaded there in frame was the reflection of the city..not my plan, just a pic, i took while shopping for a friend. / to costa ricas beauty a place i have always found inner peace and clarity. / to cross to bear where i left alone for a weekend drive in search of finding peace, and found it amongst the graves.(i admit not the most happy sight) but something i obsessed over for my lost weekend. / to angle always at play my p my love my baby blue my everything / these photos show the breakdown of 2 years in my life. each haveing a meaning to me far beyond what is seen. yet i picked them randomly. / the pics i picked form earhart chappel / i can clearly state why for each for my work in hair, make up ,wardrobe ,lighting, editing and photography / 2 are works for a breast cancer series i am working on, and they seemed to fit, as my point for the series is about how it touches all women in one way or another, age race class …we are all women, we all have a fear , a friend, a relative, someone that we know at some point in our lives that it effects. hence the jeans as they are something most of us have and feel comfort in at least one pair.(and i wanted to show strength in women feeling comfortable in their body’s) / screaming snake was a piece with a wonderfully talented model who’s emotions scream in the photos..with screaming snake and in primal scream. / yakusa reclined was for my lighting for the shot , as i was so happy the way it came out. / up in smoke (the series)the use of light effects to shape a mood. and changing model co to be a vintage interview style of shots *(she is wearing a wig in this to turn her into a brunette, i did the same in primal scream a pink wig in that series) / to the photo of slivering snake, where mood and lighting and make up created a wonderful effect on her back / i did hair make up wardrobe for all of them..but i even see here. / from “the hotel room” to the last photos in the feature “slivering back”,to “screaming snake” to “primal scream”, there is a vast difference, the mood of my photos. / looking at them quickly it might look to you i have become “bitter” as clearly seen on the photos without the use of word. / but if you take them a different way. you can see the transition / growth in my works, my attention to detail and doing hair, make up , wardrobe and lights . fav lighting would have to be the up in smoke series i did with model co. fav costume design mother earth and pride series as i starting designing clothing again fav wardrobe would be a tie for my pin up pieces with model co,and the yakusa;s series with kb fav hair. ohh again so hard to choose “fit and feel” + “isis” with extensions, and my period hair designs and punk looks with multi hair pieces at once.hair is soo fun! fav make up! of course the body of the snake/dragon on kb .on her front wrapping around her to the back and then to her shoulder.it took alot of time but was so worth it for me and i think her too! fav series! does no comment i plead the fifth world wide count?i guess not..so to answer and to tell the truth…i have seen what i have done and how i have expanded and grown , but i do not think at this point. that i have a fav series. as i have seen my mistakes, and i sill need to work on them. so i guess i can say with out a doubt i am still in the wip (work in progress) phase… and i have no fav, because of ME, i need to grow and learn more.to be able to create a whole series, with out mistakes. / “up in smoke” if you forced me to say one series. as i feel i excelled at the lighting, hair, make up. but my screw up i feel was wardrobe, my choice for it. and i think with a different outfit would have really punched the mood up even more. fav artist on rb fallen rose media for her fashion ,paul v for his creativity( as he constantly keeps you guessing what will be next) and skill, l koren’s works her style and captures of era’s long past, drink me alice for her support and kind words, and in the way of her being so positive during/handling change, and the group vintage and gorgeous, who’s members constantly inspire me, and of course to “the woman photographer” (as well as the sisterhood).groups that are for women photographers, for their lovely and constant support. and to jo o’brian a model and photographer who amazes me infront of the camera and behind she she puts in 110% every time in both.i am trying to cut down here.so i will end on a note such as this red bubble and its community of artists, as signing in is like a breath of fresh air, allowing me to be positive and to feel good. you all have pulled my esteem up so far, and so high from where it was to where it is today and i thank you, all of you on rb for that, you have been as an outlet of sorts for me through my art.., rb is place in this world i feel free.thank you. / sincerely / tara chappel / www.redbubble.com/people/earhertchappel / www.redbubble.com/people/chappelphoto / i am a wip (work in progress) for now.but not for long! / with all of your support, i believe in myself, and my talent now thanks to all of you wonderful red bubbler’s!

do i really have the time for redbubble? maybe i am asking this question a bit too late – i am already registered and i am just about to write my first blog-entry. so yes, probably i’ve got the time. i am already actively participating on another photography plattform and to be honest work is picking up as well right now, and not to be forgotten the 24h cycling race that’s coming up in 10 days – i should be training and riding my bike and not typing any blogs. still, i am kinda looking forward to meeting new people, getting more feedback on my photos and therefore improve my skills. and no, i am not disappointed if i am not going to sell any of my work – after all, taking photos is a leisure activity, relaxing in a way and having fun.

Well, bought my first print from Red Bubble the other day and am excited to get it in my hot little hands. Grabbed one from Meanderthal’s staggering gallery of delights… although it was tough stopping at just one. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if I nabbed a few more (; Loving the site/community and just wish I had more time on my hands to really dig into it. Anyway, many thanks to all those who continue to leave wonderful comments and I hope to get more up for you all soon. Ciao

My Dad had heart surgery in Indiana this week. As I sat with my mother for hour after hour, watching the clock tick by (waiting, worrying, then waiting some more), I was absolutely pining for distraction. I took my laptop along, counting on losing myself in the images here for a while, but alas, the hospital didn’t have a wireless network that was accessible. That meant days and days with no internet, and no Red Bubble. Horrors! Now I’m back home and life has calmed down a bit. I logged on this morning to try and catch up with all that I’ve missed. Wow! I’m amazed all over again at the breadth of talent on display here, and the wonderfully supportive and encouraging attitude of the “Bubblers.” When you log on every day, or several times a day, you don’t really notice how prolific a group this is – at least I didn’t. Less than a full week away, and I can’t believe how much is new, and wonderful, and inspiring. Whenever someone says that they think creativity in our society is waning, I can point them to this site and prove them wrong. Thanks for being here!
