This is technically a Scarlet Robin, though it is often referred to as (the Australian) Robin Redbreast. This image was take on the Great Alpine Rd near Mt.Hotham at the start of the Razorback. Snow Gums can show a wonderful range of bark colours. This particular tree was a lovely red. The patterns in the peeling bark gave the impression a large, clawed animal has been scratching the tree. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

A HDR image of Lake Dillon, CO from the East side at sunset. It had snowed all the week before and the lake was iced over, reflecting the sunset beautifully.

We had a little snow here in Maryland last week, and I was so hoping some of my Cardinal buddies would come visit the feeders!!! The family ranges in size from the 12-cm, 11.5-gram Orange-breasted Bunting to the 25-cm, 85-gram Black-headed Saltator[verification needed]. They are typically associated with open woodland. The sunlight through the petals and leaves looked lovely against the backdrop of the snow outside. Our short days make sunshine seem all the more precious, even indoors. Title: Innocent Partner / Medium: Acrylic on stretched canvas / Size: 500mm x 600mm / 2nd Prize winner in the Dunedin International Airport Art Awards / Original SOLD This was a painting I recently finished. It was an art challenge held by the New Zealand Art Guild. Four things ha to be incorporated in an artwork, they were: / innocence, orange, umbrella and triangle. Here is Little Red Riding Hood (the innocent) although she doesn’t look it here…with the Big Bad Wolf who has offered her shelter under his umbrella as it has started to snow again. She is on her way to take some fruit (orange amongst them) to her elderly Grandma who lives in a cottage deep in the forest. I wanted to interpret ‘triangle’ in the three character relationship i.e. Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandma and the Big Bad Wolf. Alternatively sections of the umbrella are triangular in shape.

The Gentoo Penguin is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red list of Threatened Species Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. Temperatures on the frozen continent are rising five times faster than the global average due to the unprecedented rate of climate change, pushing four species perilously close to extinction. Warmer temperatures are forcing penguins to raise their young on increasingly thinner and more precarious ice floes, while stronger winds mean many eggs and chicks are being blown away from their parents before they are able to survive on their own. The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice destroys nesting sites and reduces vital food sources, such as krill.

The first snow of the season,going outside with my camera i was fascinated from this young woman who was walking alone in this solitary country road.My attention was captured by her little red umbrella as if she wanted put a little bit of color to the melancholic atmosphere of that grey day.
