Vampire friend steps out for a smoke before sunrise… pondering what happened to the night…

This door looks to be leading to somewhere fairly hot.
For a few Euros tourists can pay to have their photo taken with this Roman Emperor and soldier outside the Coliseum in Rome. But when I saw them having a cigarette break I knew that was the shot I wanted. Unfortunately, on that first occasion, I didn’t have my camera with me. When I returned to Rome, 18 months later, this shot was at the top of my wish list. But it was summer and they were busy, so I knew that I’d have to be patient. After about an hour they had a bit of a lull and lit up and, armed with a long lens and pretending to be totally disinterested in them, I got the shot!
Mummification was a very important element of the Papuan culture, the preserved body of a village’s big man, an elder, chief or a great warrior was regarded as a link with ancestors. The process involved hanging the corpse in a specially build house over a fire, and smoking it continuously for up to a year. Indonesians regarded the tradition as barbaric, prohibited the procedure, confiscated and destroyed most of the mummies in the area. This is one of three survivors in the Baliem valley. Photo: a real smoked Papuan 300 years old mummy. / Smoke and glow (embers) added digitally. Baliem valley, 15 km from Wamena, Irian Jaya (Indonesian Papua).

Smoke art + post processing.
This is incense smoke with a black background then inverted and colored in photoshop. So hard to get the smoke just the way you like it! But awesome fun seeing the shapes. /

My first attempt at Smoke Photography… its amazing to see what shapes you can make, just let your imagination go wild!
I was inspired by the idea that simple things can be beautiful. Your wish is her command. I might do more with mythological creatures in the future. Mixed Media work with Copics, Cps and Photoshop.

Part of a popular series of red dragon artworks I made a couple of years ago. Ink and paint pen on red watercolor paper. Original measures 12.5×19”
Like many people, woke early, sniffing the air, wondering what was that smell? Saw the red sky and wondered if we should escape a firestorm. Excited at the photographic possibilities, like many a morning (check out the last few uploads! ) the world looks different. check it out!
