Nick asked to see what I shot on the houseboat….here’s one that looks ok This is two of the three auto exposure bracketted shots merged in photomatix. The boat moved too much in the longer exposure for that one to be useable. The Rous River is a tributary of the Tweed, and is basically surrounded by cane farms and mountains. We’re in the middle of one of the largest calderas in the world, I believe….a monster volcano from even before I was born! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/10, 1/60”, ISO 50, tripod on a moving boat…

Pine Creek, Zion National Park, Utah. My conscious goal with this image was to simplify the composition.

A photo I took of some trees and houses reflecting off the Trent River in Campbellford, Ontario.

What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

So here we are again, back on the houseboat, just south of Murwillumbah. The dinghy had seen better days, the oars were mismatched and the bottom of the boat was full of water. The bucket to bail was full of holes….needless to say we didn’t use the dinghy more than once ;) Canon 5D with 16-35mm at 18mm, f/8, 1/50”, ISO 200, hand held Now I’m off to work, have a great day everyone!

Sedona, Arizona, USA 2008 Was so focussed on getting to this river before sunset , such a rushed hiked that I lost my bearings on the return trip and nearly spent the night out here !! Was rather daunting but incredibly beautiful nonetheless. I now make sure I have plenty of time either way, perhaps I should invest in a compass and a star chart LOL
