This worker was taking a midday nap on the back of a truck loaded with chillies that were about to be dried. This is Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. A Shinto Shrine with thousands of vermilion torii lining the paths on the hill on which the shrine is located. One of Kyoto’s oldest (founded in 711 AD) and most revered Shinto shrines, Fushimi Inari serves as the headquarters for all the 40,000 shrines dedicated to Inari across Japan. / Dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, sake, and prosperity. / It was featured in the film Memoirs of a Geisha.

The lighting & general arrangement in this corridor had an almost ‘old master’ feel to it… Whilst not the most exciting part of the Sergeant’s Mess, this has never the less ended up being my favourite shot from that outing.

There are dolphins there, with whom i connected daily and a lot of sealife, including birds, seastars, rays, fish…. the original drawing is gifted to Jack, a fellow artist i met on Tangalooma and now friend, who really appreciated this drawing so much, that I felt greatly encouraged….

I looked up high / to the stars in the sky / ... / and the moon sung me to sleep / with a lullaby / ... / I looked below / to the waves in the sea / ... / and the boats rocked me to sleep / so peacefully / ... / In my dreams / I sailed the seas / ... / to far away land / and tropical streams / ... / where rainbows grow / up everywhere / ... / and I would wear them / in my hair by karin taylor 19/12/09 The first verse of the poem is displayed on artwork. Since I had some spare time today while everyone else in my family is doing a big clean up (done my spring cleaning already) I enjoyed creating this pencil drawing on paper, which I’ve enhanced digitally. A dreamy little decorative work that would enhance a child’s room and take them to other places in their dreams.
