This was a real time warpe, seeing how we actually recycled way back then… Now, were are having to relearn this art. Green was the norm, throw away was an extravangant existance….. Some thing to be said about the way we were…

Many of the well known depictions of the Buddha are stone statues.. and stone with its textures and grains are the basic elements of this image. I think you need to view this large to get the best impression of it (In addition to Red Bubbles range of print options this work is also available as a signed limited edition print of 30 direct for the artist)

I watched this amazing documentary by Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky last night in Fed Square. It was both inspiring and depressing – what are we doing to this planet? There were whole landscapes without trees or plants of any kind… Some interesting facts from the documentary about the Three Gorges Dam in China: -the dam is 50% again bigger than any other dam on earth / -most of the foreign engineers walked off the job because they thought it was just too big (the reservoir alone is 600km long) / -when they filled the dam in 2006 seismologists recorded a wobble in the earth’s rotation / -it took 15 days to fill / -13 cities and 2 million people were moved to accommodate the dam, often the people themselves taking apart their houses brick by brick (they were paid per brick) / -day labourers working on the dam are being paid 20 yuan per day – that’s AUD$3 dollars / -27 nuclear power plants are planned for the next 10 years and coalburning furnaces are being constructed weekly / -the new cities built to replace the old have not been well-planned, are very high density and have no parks or public spaces… And before you decide to update your computer to the latest model, 90% of recycled computers end up in China. They are broken down by hand (without protective clothing) for parts and the chemicals, especially lead, beryllium, cadmium, mercury and highly toxic phosphor dust that come out of that process are apparent in the air 15kms outside of Taizhou, the main town. For more on this, read ‘Where computers go to die’ at: http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2006/04/10/ewaste/ Makes our feel-good attitudes to recycling seem completely misguided…

From cradle to grave we get robbed of peace, to really live like brothers and sisters and love one another. The little dudes born each and every day can speak any language and yes be anything they or we could imagine but nope they learn some very very sad sad things as they grow and play each and every day…”don’t trust anyone especially strangers, that kid is not like you and me they are “different,” learn to stand up straight and get all straight A’s, while being pounded into round wholes day after day because society says so”….oh oh the status quo, “eat your meat and don’t play too rough with pets” oxymoron you can eat cows, pigs, chickens, fish the does and don’ts of eating meat don’t eat cats or dogs….no it ain’t all that bad just an exaggeration (?). Wow we live in a scary world of war, famine, exploitation death and taxes, lions and tigers and bears, OMG I am scared. Kids learn from you, you guessed it, grownups that are all grown up (?). Just watch politicians, actors, writers, sports figures not all acting so grown up, yup still on the playground acting like children who learned from whom ha ha…just another rant of mine. Sing this each and every day while you can to your children or yourself “And you, of tender years, Can’t know the fears that your elders grew by. And so please help them with your youth, They seek the truth before they can die.” Sung and written by a trinity of pure angelic voice and an anthem a beautiful lullaby…by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Peas to you bro n’ sis….each and every day!!!! / See more stuff at: hinkiepinkie
