I got a nice email today from a UK record company asking that i send them a CD of my music… / It’s very premature to say how this will all go, but i must confess it took me by suprise and has made me feel absolutly overjoyed that even the hint of a possibility of being able to make a pro-level CD… / man this could be sooo cooool.. anyways, / all this could turn to dust, and nothing happen, but i thought id have to let people know. As a bonus / here / is an electronic CD of mine you can download. / it has all the neccesary bits and pieces to get the 2 music files, covers and all that so you can burn the cd and have labels and stuff to have a physical cd too….

you may recall this journal Well the record label that asked me to send some stuff to them declined to take me on board. / They liked a single track (the audio for this one here ) but said a simple ‘no’. / I didnt think it would happen anyway but its nice they liked even one track. So, its business as usual, ill make my own MuscularTeeth CD and sell it without a middleman. I told them it was very nice of them and that when i do make it big theyve obviously missed the boat. / In fact all this has done has highlighted the fact that my own determination and abilities are whats needed – dont rely on someone else. im twice as focused as i was 10mins ago before the email. :)

I am embarking on a new creative venture of re-interpreting and redesigning record covers with different materials to give them a third dimension, dynamic colours and tangible textures using everything from leather to stitching to coloured ink. This is all in the the belief that record covers are truely amazing pieces of artwork in their images and to make them more tangible would be a wounderful thing. I have already finished Belle and Sebastian “Tigermilk” which will be uploaded soon am working on Pink Floyd and the Sex Pistols and my interpretation of The Velvet Underground and Nico “Andy Warhol” is in my portfolio. You could have hanging on your wall a slightly different interpretation of a record cover that has meant something to your life and that you really appreciate for its design and for the music, culture and time that it symbolises. So I’m putting it out there to you my creative friends (that would be you and you) what are your favourite record covers and why? and if you are interested in ordering a design feel free to let me know. Also any other ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I hope you enjoy what is to come xx

I’ll whisper this one as you will all be getting sick of me. BUT my image and poem “Cherub of Happiness” was featured in the Imagewriting group. Thank you to the moderators of the group for this honour. This sweet cherub sits beside my bed and it was a spur of the moment shot that inspired the poem to go with it. So thank you to those who have commented and supported me with this one. What a great day!!!!!!!!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!! /

Hey all, I have been a busy one of late! Just wanted to let you know about something great thats going on behind the scenes here. Last night myself and Flic Manning had a photoshoot with other artists from various DNB and BREAKS crews. As you may know, Flic and I are partners in the group FIXD So, about 8:30pm we started shooting the photoshoot with TYMED CONSPIRACY, MC RAMI, GROUP THERAPY, ANGRY BUDA and SCOLLOP for the label BALCONY RECORDS. It was an awesome night and we had a photographer from Melbourne fly over to Perth to do the shoot. We did about 2-3 hours in the studio, with various keyboard, microphone props and then headed to a back alley to get some great graffiti art as backgrounds. After climbing up onto the roof to get the perfect shot, we headed to the Perth foreshore, where at the moment is a massive ‘Hollywood style’ sign of PERTH. So, about 1am we were standing in front of that and getting the last of the shots. It was a brilliant night and I will update you all with pictures in a few weeks (hopefully not too long). The next step is getting BalconyRecords.com up and running (which unfortunately I dont have control over) and then releasing our music through the label. SWEET! If you want to ask me anything about the shoot before the pics come in, or our music etc then fire away. But just had to tell someone! FIXD MUSIC

  • / Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours – it’s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome. The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. I have been without a record player for 4 year, and I’ve just remedied this with a Reba P1 & it is sweet, sooooo sweeeet! All these records I haven’t been able to listen to for 4 years are finally back on the turntable where they belong, making sweet sounds and bringing back some good old memories. Please indulge me for a moment, as I’m really excited :) Here’s the playlist: Uriah Heep, Yes, Hawkwind, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Bad Company, Simon & Garfunkle, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Beatles (my mums’ old record) The Everly Brother, Elvis (the record I got in 1977, when he died), John Denver, Rob Buchanan, John Mayall, David Lindley, Bobby Bland, Bony M, the soundtracks to: The Sting (RIP Paul Newman), Grease, Footloose and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Duran Duran, Abba, and some good old fashioned Aussie Rock & Pop in the form of Chain, Cold Chisel, Split Enz, Mondo Rock, The Flowers & Molly’s Aus. Evolution….. So I’m putting down the camera for a while – the weather’s crap anyway – Grabbing a drink, cranking up the volume & I’m gonna dance around the lounge room! Hope your all having a good Saturday nite too :) Cheers! Leanne : )

Hey Everyone, I haven’t yet written a journal entry yet, mainly because I’m lazy and also because Lorie has been doing such a good job of it. But maybe it’s time to step forward a bit and let you in on a bit more about me. Many of you have left great comments about my cartooning and artwork, which is very encouraging indeed. Sometimes when inspiration is low, getting some supportive feedback can light the fire under by butt to work again. I know Lorie appreciates it massively as well. Basically my style is the sum of my influences, mostly from underground greats like Vaughn Bode and Robert Crumb. I also love silent animation of the twenties and look to early horror films for inspiration also. And speaking of horror, my 9 year old daughter Eve has been giving us some great ideas for horror and zombie based designs lately. Rarely have I ever been so proud in my time as a parent. The main thing in my life is music. I’ve been obsessed with it for a damn long time now, and it just gets more intense the older I get. When I’m not drawing, I play guitar, write music reviews, download old, rare albums and upload my writing to music sites like Rate Your Music. Here’s the link should you wanna check out my page. My activity in it is intense enough that Eve can identify different strains of heavy metal, just from her own listening experience. She doesn’t particularly like it, but she knows what it is, and that’s a start. I’m also interested in religion and history, especially when they include the more morbid periods in history. Where there’s torture, heresy, disease and blasphemy, you’ll find me as well. At least figuratively speaking. So there you go, my first entry! Any thoughts, comments or rotten tomatoes are welcome and encouraged, so let ‘em fly! Peace, Mike

55million old global warming / Climatic Chain Reaction Caused Runaway Greenhouse Effect 55 Million Years Ago / From: Utrecht University / Published December 26, 2007 10:55 AM RELATED ARTICLES / • Ancient British Bog May Hold Climate Change Clues / • FACTBOX: Methane, from Cow Burps to Rice Paddies / • Study Says Methane a New Climate Threat / • Carbon dioxide at record high, stoking warming: WMO Analogous to the Earth’s current situation, greenhouse warming 55 million years ago was caused by a relatively rapid increase of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. This phase, known as the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum (PETM), was studied using sediments that accumulated 55 million years ago on the ocean floor in what is now New Jersey. / The new study shows that a large proportion of the greenhouse gases was released as a result of a chain-reaction of events. Probably due to intense volcanic activity, CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere became higher and the ensuing greenhouse effect warmed the Earth. As a result, submarine methane hydrates (ice-like structures in which massive amounts of methane are stored) melted and released large amounts of methane into the atmosphere. / This further amplified the magnitude of global warming, which comprised about 6o C in total. The study is the first to show such a chain reaction during rapid warming in a ‘greenhouse world’. / The new research confirms that global warming can stimulate mechanisms that release massive amounts of stored carbon into the atmosphere. Current and future warming will likely see similar effects, such as methane hydrate dissociation, adding additional greenhouse gases to those resulting from fossil fuel burning. / Last year, the same group of researchers showed in Nature that tropical algae migrated into the Arctic Ocean during the PETM, when temperatures rose to 24oC. Current climate models are not capable of simulating such high temperatures in the Arctic, which has repercussions for the predictions of future climate change. In addition to Al Gore’s presentation, this type of research shows what a greenhouse world looks like, including palm trees and crocodiles in the Arctic. / Journal Article: ”˜Environmental precursors to rapid light carbon injection at the Palaeocene/Eocene boundary’ by Appy Sluijs, Henk Brinkhuis, Stefan Schouten, Steven M. oh mi god! wow last night was awesome. my ear drums are ringing. I’ve stayed up late to rock out and I think, even after a shower, I still smell like a rock n roll girl! because / porcelain are and were always awesome there is no way to know what you missed, but you can hear it still here I decided not to bring my camera as I used to photograph them all the time-sometimes you need to enjoy from the other side (which is what my cuz said she enjoyed, as she used to be in the band-just to enjoy and not be ‘on’) but there were so many hello moments-the lead singer Lauryn / ‘Axel’ Roberts has changed since that photo-grown her hair long, it’s LA blonde, and when she does the head bangin’ thing, it looks awesome. Her voice is still rough and powerful and sweet. The guys are a tight, electric, loud, radio ready musicians and the electric violin is still a feature, with their new violinist lookin divine while revealing there is definitely a place for violin in rock n roll. the sonar bar is only two weeks old-but I bet being right under the harbour bridge will attract loads of artists. hopefully we’ll see porcelain again in australia-but it may be at the horden or somewhere big or just on massive billboards and delta goodrem level of airplay-get ready of porcelain overload soon!

Well today was officially a no work day. I make myself do this every now and again. I have had a lot on my mind so decided a bit of pampering was the key and it was. Don’t worry I wasn’t catapulted off a bed, although that has happened to me before but instead I had some time to relax and think… I thought about imagery and how we create our images. Why do we create our images and what are we trying to say? It is quite a strange thing if you think of it in terms of survival and instinct- how would that have worked in caveman times. “Actually wait a second there is the perfect image- you keep our food at bay and I will just capture it. The tribe will love it for the cave walls!” So with all this in mind the reason I could really find is that we need to create a sense of connection to the world around us and that by photographing we are trying to comprehend what we are surrounded by. Maybe it is as simple as stating that we have been present and that this is evidence of our lives. So with this in mind I realised that on a deeper level photography makes you feel alive, records your life and gives you the opportunity to express who you are. Quite wonderful really and now it is available for all…. It is amazing what a massage can do for you.

Channel 4 in the UK are playing Pan’s Labyrinth at 9pm GMT on Sunday 28th September. Personally, one of my “films to see before you die”, a true masterpiece of film production… But one where if you speak less than 10 minutes is up you will most likely start crying. Yes, it is that good. It’s in spanish, but should have english subtitles- they didn’t dub it which is such a good thing, thank god. Allows the actors to be as good as they are… Mark Kermode said it was one of those films critics wait all year for… one which makes the job worthwhile. I couldn’t agree more that this was the best film of 2006, by far. But it needs to be seen, as a full review of this film wouldn’t work without spoilers as it couldn’t come close to describing this film’s astonishing, to even begin to understand the spectacular piece of film making… art... that Pan’s Labyrinth is. Just watch it. Set your Sky + boxes, set your DVD recorders and PVRs, or even a VHS if you’re still back in the 90s, or watch it as it plays, because I am telling you right now, you could never regret seeing this film and it will genuinely change you.
