  • What your favourite record cover?

I am embarking on a new creative venture of re-interpreting and redesigning record covers with different materials to give them a third dimension, dynamic colours and tangible textures using everything from leather to stitching to coloured ink. This is all in the the belief that record covers are truely amazing pieces of artwork in their images and to make them more tangible would be a wounderful thing. I have already finished Belle and Sebastian “Tigermilk” which will be uploaded soon am working on Pink Floyd and the Sex Pistols and my interpretation of The Velvet Underground and Nico “Andy Warhol” is in my portfolio. You could have hanging on your wall a slightly different interpretation of a record cover that has meant something to your life and that you really appreciate for its design and for the music, culture and time that it symbolises. So I’m putting it out there to you my creative friends (that would be you and you) what are your favourite record covers and why? and if you are interested in ordering a design feel free to let me know. Also any other ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I hope you enjoy what is to come xx

I got a nice email today from a UK record company asking that i send them a CD of my music… / It’s very premature to say how this will all go, but i must confess it took me by suprise and has made me feel absolutly overjoyed that even the hint of a possibility of being able to make a pro-level CD… / man this could be sooo cooool.. anyways, / all this could turn to dust, and nothing happen, but i thought id have to let people know. As a bonus / here / is an electronic CD of mine you can download. / it has all the neccesary bits and pieces to get the 2 music files, covers and all that so you can burn the cd and have labels and stuff to have a physical cd too….

you may recall this journal Well the record label that asked me to send some stuff to them declined to take me on board. / They liked a single track (the audio for this one here ) but said a simple ‘no’. / I didnt think it would happen anyway but its nice they liked even one track. So, its business as usual, ill make my own MuscularTeeth CD and sell it without a middleman. I told them it was very nice of them and that when i do make it big theyve obviously missed the boat. / In fact all this has done has highlighted the fact that my own determination and abilities are whats needed – dont rely on someone else. im twice as focused as i was 10mins ago before the email. :)

  • / Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours – it’s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome. The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. Hey all, I have been a busy one of late! Just wanted to let you know about something great thats going on behind the scenes here. Last night myself and Flic Manning had a photoshoot with other artists from various DNB and BREAKS crews. As you may know, Flic and I are partners in the group FIXD So, about 8:30pm we started shooting the photoshoot with TYMED CONSPIRACY, MC RAMI, GROUP THERAPY, ANGRY BUDA and SCOLLOP for the label BALCONY RECORDS. It was an awesome night and we had a photographer from Melbourne fly over to Perth to do the shoot. We did about 2-3 hours in the studio, with various keyboard, microphone props and then headed to a back alley to get some great graffiti art as backgrounds. After climbing up onto the roof to get the perfect shot, we headed to the Perth foreshore, where at the moment is a massive ‘Hollywood style’ sign of PERTH. So, about 1am we were standing in front of that and getting the last of the shots. It was a brilliant night and I will update you all with pictures in a few weeks (hopefully not too long). The next step is getting BalconyRecords.com up and running (which unfortunately I dont have control over) and then releasing our music through the label. SWEET! If you want to ask me anything about the shoot before the pics come in, or our music etc then fire away. But just had to tell someone! FIXD MUSIC

I’ll whisper this one as you will all be getting sick of me. BUT my image and poem “Cherub of Happiness” was featured in the Imagewriting group. Thank you to the moderators of the group for this honour. This sweet cherub sits beside my bed and it was a spur of the moment shot that inspired the poem to go with it. So thank you to those who have commented and supported me with this one. What a great day!!!!!!!!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!! /

  • A journal about notebooks
    by Michael Alesich

This is a thought process about an article I read yesterday, mulled over and went back to today. In the article, / from Design Observer, it follows Michael Bieruts, the author, use of the notebook through his working carreer and how he can trace his life and thought process from start to finish. I envy this kind of record and with a memory like a sieve this might not be such a bad idea. Since I’m one to start a diary one day, forget it the next and just give up on the third I think putting visual images down as I need them for work and the like would be the better choice for me. Sort of like a 365 day project that is popular only instead of taking photos it’s just recording the day in a page. It can be stapled, glued, or whatever. Hopefully I’ll keep going on this one.

I am very happy, and somewhat overwhelmed by having eight features in a week. Two of the images were each featured by two groups. That is a first for me in a week as well. I am very grateful to all the groups who featured these works, and to all of you for your encouraging comments and favoriting. Paradise Meadows was featured in All CountriesWetlands, Ponds, Lakes and Rivers group and the Forests group. Bald Eagle: Mature Adult on the Beach was featured in the Animal Photography group. Sandhill Crane: A Different Perspective was featured in Technical Photography. The Cheerleader was featured in the Technical Photography group. Bald Eagle: Lifting Off was featured in Technical Photography and Nikon DSLR Users Group. And finally, Bald Eagles: Mated Pair Calling was featured in We are Passionate About Birds of Prey. As you can see, I was a big hit with the Technical Photography group who featured three of these works. Again, thank you to these groups and to all of you who viewed, commented, and featured any of these works. David

  • $999.99 of work sold in one day on Red Bubble. Is this an RB record??

Let me tell you a story. / About something that has blown me away. / And I don’t want to embarrass Travis Easton by telling you this. I want to applaud him. Some of you know about the world’s most expensive card campaign. This card is marked up 999% so that when people buy it for $33 or so the $30 mark up goes straight to HEAL Africa Many of you guys have got on board and purchased this card and in its own right it’s raised around $600 +. My thanks as always to JR who came up with the idea in the first place and Adrian Carmody who pushed it hard. Well last night Travis bought the world’s most expensive card…as a framed print. Now in case the maths is as hard for you as it is for me, that means the mark up comes to $799.00 He then went on to buy this black and white as a framed print, the mark up of which comes to $40. The grand total of all the mark up comes to $839.99 and I can promise you every single cent of that will go to HEAL Africa. I will scan in the receipt upon payment. That alone will provide 2 life saving and changing fistula operations. If you want to read about that you can check out my post here In total the photography sales and a few other things have provided 7 fistula operations, a few mosquito nets and a cataract operation. The point of this journal entry is to say thanks to Travis. This is not about me, it never has been. It’s about the generosity of people. People I haven’t even met but have come to know and respect in virtual friendships. People who don’t mind peeling off the layers to their soul and allow their spirit to breathe and add breath to the displaced, the beaten and the frightened. All I had to do was take the shots, it’s people like Trav and so many others who take the step… Please I encourage you to send this to as many people as you can. Comment, say g’day to Travis Quite apart from anything else the guy is an AWESOME landscape photographer. There’s a saying someone once told me (Travis it was Phil Cogger maybe you know him?)... “It’s all very well to be moved. It’s much more important to move.” I love it. And I love what you’ve done Travis. You bloody beauty. I’ll finish off with my own saying which I want people to engage with… “It’s not the third world. It’s our world.” God Bless. / Peace. PS Thanks to Peter also and RB for the generosity. They are providing free delivery on all my African stuff until the end of June. The promotional code is: melinda.

I’m curious about stats and figures relating to sales histories….. I’m not concerned about individuals here – more that I can’t find anywhere here an itemised breakdown of sales figures, revenues, remuneration etc that’s made public – not even a simple graph :) / A weekly breakdown ‘per Group’ would be useful and appropriate; yet I find nothing. Given the agreed terms here-in, it would make perfect sense, and only seem fair – and ‘dang the term’ – transparent, if these stats were made public to members… Thanks for your answers in advance! kind regards Chris

  • "And Though We Fade Away" being licensed to Warner
    by Cameron Gray

Hi there friends, And Though We Fade Away is about…

Hi there friends, And Though We Fade Away is about to be licensed to Warner Music and in my agreement I won’t be able to sell prints of one of my most popular pieces. So And Though We Fade Away is now officially a limited edition print until I sign the contract in which the piece will no longer be available for purchase. / So if you really like this artwork and were planning on purchasing it either for yourself or a present for a loved one, you should get ya skates on! We will sign it off within the next 2 weeks. I should also note though that I am still free to exhibit the work in galleries and to have it included in my books, speaking of which! I’m planning a brand spanking new high quality portfolio book! The new book will be a collection of my most popular works as well as some that haven’t been released. A lot of you know that I don’t tend to tell people the stories behind my work, well it’s all coming out in my book! peace and love.

Dear Red Bubble Friends, Yesterday on 09/09/09 at 9:00 PM I re-launched the Plan BE website at:www.gotoplanbe.com. It is time now to get the first Plan BE book into as many hands as possible and to start teaching the empowering workshops and seminars that explain in depth the life-evolving information that Spirit has been sharing with me and my two Plan BE partners. This important information will give everyone the ability to BE in harmony with their Self and BE able to work directly with the Highest Universal Power to co-create their greatest life. I have also been giving more and more Akashic Records readings that have been helping to uncover men and women’s hidden gifts and give them insight into what they can do to help manifest all of their heart-felt desires. I am blessed to be able to access this Universal knowledge for everyone and would like to visit you records with you at your earliest convenience. Just e-mail me for more information. I also would like to introduce you to my two Plan BE partners Theresa Hinkle and Red Bubble artist: Amanda G. Wright. Please read more about my wife Theresa and our great friend Amanda at www.gotoplanbe.com. It will be exciting, insightful and entertaining to conducting workshops and seminars with both Theresa and Amanda. Also please read about the very important first tele-conference “The Vortex.” You will want to be part of that workshop. On a personal note – you should contact Amanda as soon as possible about creating for you a personal Amandala (there is more information on the new Plan BE site and here at www.redbubble.com/people/amandalas). She created a few for Theresa, my children, and me that opened up all of the Energy blocks that we were still creating. This greater flow of Energy is helping us move faster and healthier along our paths. An Amandala is something that is extremely affordable and important to help you now. Please let your friends know. I hope to hear from each of you soon, Terry

Rain, and the weather slowly getting colder meant that this premiere had a bit of a smaller attendance from the public than usual. Having the speakers blast out the same three childrens songs for almost ninety minutes may have contributed, and the fact that actor Tom Hanks and Blake Lively (‘Gossip Girl’) were in the film but not at the premiere probably didn’t help either. / It’s a movie based on a kids book with less than 300 words of length. (And just think.. they can’t make the movie of the last Harry Potter book without turning it into two films). I haven’t read it, but the monsters look… big? / “Blake Lively isn’t coming to this thing? Then what the hell am I doing up here???” Yeah, disappointment was the order of the day. I got what satisfaction I could from knowing at least I had an umbrella the size of a small postcode to shelter under when the rain became too teeming. / Wireimage tells me she’s ‘Lizzie Cundy’ as if that’s meant to help. Still, if she’s willing to throw out a pose, I won’t say no… / Minor flooding on red carpet. Yeah.. that’s not ideal. On the plus side, it kept crowd numbers down (I’m not generally an optimist, but anything short of meteor strikes and locust plagues that keeps crowd numbers down is generally a good thing) (the carpet had a plastic covering that was removed at the last minute) / Oh, look it’s… umm…. You know, I’m kind of stumped as to why they didn’t get a couple of people in larger monster costumes (as opposed to merely masks) to show up to this thing… / He’s Matthew Lewis, who plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films and is the only red carpet celeb I recognised today. Not that this is necessarily a slur on him or the other celebs… but still. / The older dude is director Spike Jonze, who also directed the Charlie Kaufman works ‘Being John Malkovich’ and ‘Adaptation’, and was an actor in ‘The Game’ and ‘Three Kings’. I might have thought about getting his autograph, in retrospect. / The kid, meanwhile, is called ‘Max Records’. I have no idea as to his acting credentials, but that name? Is awesome… I believe he’s the kid on the movie poster, and hence in the film. / Clearly, I have a way with kids… (either me, or the dude with the Nikon D80 next to me who was, like most of the population of London, leaching off the coverage area afforded by my umbrella) / One of the Paps referred to the calibre of tonight’s celebrity turnout as “z-grade”. (Come on… MAX! RECORDS!) Anyway, here is a photo of the Paps whose job it is to photograph z-grade celebrities with their own brand of gusto. (For me? It’s just a hobby! No, really…) / Please enjoy tonight’s edition of ‘is he the one who’s famous, or is she?’. I’ve never seen either before, if that helps… (scroll down for answer) / No idea who… but surely you can’t argue with the needlecraft in the knitting? / English model (if wikipedia says it, I won’t judge) and celebrity daughter Georgia May Jagger showed up. My heart rate remained unchanged. My camera’s performance was sluggish this evening, which might have said something. / “But wait / what celebrity through yonder carpet walks / It is the North / and Yellow Cap Guy is the compass” Thank you, and goodnight! So that was another one for The Archive of Movie Premieres and if nothing else, it adds to the count! The last couple of premieres: / The Lovely Bones – Peter Jackson! Charles and Camilla! / Me & Orson Welles – Zac! Efron! Eee! And Claire Danes! / We are the people we’ve been waiting for -The Fonz Dissed Me!! / Harry Brown : Michael Caine! Until next time, consider buying a calendar: it’s almost the end of the year. Sure, you could buy anybody’s, but you could also buy mine! / / (yeah, I’ve kind of sold out… let’s never mention it again) Answer to tonight’s edition of ‘is he famous, or is she?’ : She is. Her name is Isabella Calthorpe and she’s a model and actress (she’s appeared in “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People”). Hmmm.. that might almost be worth a second photo… / According to wikipedia, she’s not just a model-actress, but also an aristocrat: full name Isabella Amaryllis Charlotte Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe. She… should probably think about donating some of those middle names to people who truly need them.
