well i didnt want to say anything until i knew for Sure, my shot of wednesday’s night fire was going to be published in our main local newspaper / this morning, i checked their website, and there it was :) / and i bundled up and went n got a newspaper and there it was!! / talk about on cloud nine right now, Finally got published with the newspaper / i scanned it.and will add link to the online story :):) / now im on the paper’s payroll, was asked if i would do assignments…i was like Oh Yeah, bring it On! the guy told me, well ill hold you to that..heh / so lets hope he Does! / this is scanned shot of the paper, im not making it public to sell, have it set as private, and besides..who would want to own a card of it? lol if ya do..contact me..ill sell it! LOL this is the link from online :) / http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/jan/25/fire-guts-townsend-landmark/ their photog showed up the next morning, that is his shot that you will see first, mine is just below it, on the newspaper, he got the large spot for his shot, mine was smaller..sigh.but its A ok..its Published! :)

  • Shot Wins Kaleidoscope Bronze Award

When I did the Foothills Fall Festival back in October of 07, that in itself was an honor to me. To be the event photog, and be responsible for capturing the moments of the events, everything from the arts and crafts, to the kids, to the finale` of the concerts. The woman in charge of the event contacted me literally Two days before the submission deadline to pick out my favorite shot, to enter into the Kaleidoscope Awards. Something I have NO clue of what it is all about. I had only 3199 shots to choose from. I do know it’s a national event for festivals around this area, and that is about it. / So after careful concideration, I chose a shot. Wasnt really expecting much, of course had the hope something would come of it, but with so many other festivals going on..who knows what would happen. Yesterday I get an email from her, with the PDF file, showing what was going to be printed in one of our local newspapers, and yes..it was on the Front Page :):) / This is the link to the paper Maryville’s Foothill Fall Festival named best in Southeast If you read down alittle ways, you will see where I won the Bronze Award for “Best Event Photograph” :):) It hasnt really sunk in yet, dont know what I will get from it, a plague, certificate, dont know yet…lol And yes, I want something Solid, showing what it’s all about! / This is the shot I chose. / / It’s here on RB, called “still loved by the fans”. The reason I chose this shot, is because of the “tells a story”, you have a celebrity, totally involved with his fans, his fan’s looking onward admiring him, him holding his fan’s hands..and something about that look in his eyes. For me ..shows total and complete happiness!! Another reason I chose this, was because of the tech’s on it. My shooting conditions were a challenge for even the most seasoned photog, concert was at night. The only light I had to work with was the lights coming off stage, into my face. So I had to really think out what might happen, and hope when it did, I had the lighting working for me. The way the focus turned out concidering my lighting conditions, I was shooting at a fairly high SS mode for the conditions for lighting. / I am in heaven right now, this is something I never expected, but just hoped for. / Im just hoping they allow me the honor to shoot this year’s festival for them. I had a blast, and have already thought of a few things I would add to what I had already done! / I am so hyped by this, every now and then, it will hit me that I won the Bronze Award (which is A OK with me). Other then that, it hasnt quite sunk in yet….lol / I dont want anyone to pinch me, because I dont want to wake up from this dream :)

  • Fantabulous Printmakers - A Plea!

I had a bit of spare time today so I thought I’d go through the artworks in my most favourite group of all time, “Printmakers & Printmaking”. It never ceases to amaze me what fantastic art there is in our world, and this small group of printmakers is no exception. There are only 15 pages of works posted, but what an exciting 15 pages they are! Printmaking doesn’t seem to be all that popular with those viewing artworks on RedBubble, and it seems these works are rarely on the feature pages alongside the bright and glorious digital artworks and photography, or drawings, which is a major pity because printmaking can produce really unique results. Printmaking requires a different set of skills and more often than not produces effects that artists would be hard-pressed to get (if at all) in other forms of artwork. Printmakers often work in black or monochrome, so perhaps this is what makes them less interesting to others – I don’t know. After leaving a few comments on some of the works I particularly admired, I received a response from BillyLee. In her response regarding Sierra Woman she said it is not often people comment on black and white prints. I have noticed the same thing. Yet her’s was a very beautiful work of art that would have taken a great deal of time and effort to create. The detail she managed to carve into a woodblock, and the skill required to achieve such a relaxed and tranquil setting, is amazing. There are others in this group, equally brilliant. So I would love whoever reads this journal to take a trip into the Printmakers & Printmaking group and to give them all the credit they deserve. Most of all, I would love to see the guru’s of RedBubble making some special effort to recognise and promote this unique band of artists. How about a feature page of printmakers’ works? How fantastic would that be!

  • Sad
    by Anthea Slade

    US$4.99–US$114.00

Sad was drawn on the 23-11-08 / Sad (poem) was written on the 21-11-08 Sad Sadness is shy. / She bites at our hearts / and tugs at our minds / Sadness stops us / and makes us feel. Our blood bursts with sadness. / Makes us fall within our essence. / Sadness is the seed / in the fertile soil / that grows the flower happiness. Sadness the mirror / Sadness the reflection, / of our faces in the water. / Sadness makes us dance alone. / She makes us build emotional muscle. Sadness gives us gumption. / Sadness makes us have courage. / She feeds our minds with memories and dreams. / Sadness creates tension for change, / and urges us to look within. Sadness massages our hearts / and makes them grow stronger / Sadness is our teacher / the precursor of self-awareness / Inspiration behind art. Sadness is the friend of reflection, / Sadness the light in the dark, / The shadow to the sun. / Sadness now is part of our happiness then. / Sadness knows nature loves to hide. The more we love, / The more we miss, / The more we cry when it goes. / Sadness is the mistress of vulnerability, / The guardian of our sensitivity, / A companion to our bliss. Sadness links us to others. / Sadness enables us to feel compassion. / Sadness is an empty space. / Sadness is beautiful. / Sadness makes us human.

Came home this evening to discover Colours of Heart 3 was chosen for the feature page in the group The Eyes Have It. This is one of a series of artworks created from my drawing which explores the notion of opposites which are different yet complementary existing in the same entity in this case my face. It is looking at the idea of yin/yan, night/day, moon/sun feminine/masculine etc. I just want to make special mention of the imput that Vasile made in adding colour and texture to my drawing and extending my idea even further. Thank you so much Vasile. You make my drawing come alive with your colour combinations. And it is wonderful that The Eyes Have It has acknowledged this by choosing it to be displayed on the feature page. Just wanted to share because it was a lovely way to end my challenging week. Finally, a homepage feature on my Other art site! I don’t know how long it will stay up, or who will be in the feature spot if anyone clicks on the above a day or a week from now, but for today, VALENTINE’S DAY!!!, it’s ME. Woo hoo. I’d pretty much given up on IK in favor of redbubble, because it’s way more fun over here, but I occasionally do go back to add another image or rearrange my galleries. They do have a “galleries” function that makes it very easy to organize pictures into various categories. I like that. They also have a much more sophisticated framing function, with a huge selection of frames, multiple mat options, and glazing choices. One huge difference between IK and RB, however, I have noticed because I have a number of the same pictures posted on both sites. The same pieces that look fine on redbubble look pale, flat, and washed out on ImageKind. I know there are other bubblers on IK, so I wonder if anyone else has noticed that. Open two windows and pull up the same picture in both sites, and you will see a huge difference. Anyway, I had to celebrate my IK feature somehow. Couldn’t think of anybody better to share it with than my RB friends.
