  • Love Belongs Here
    by Silvia Manuela

the centre of my Universe / is in my child’s Eyes. / Though separation exists / and there are differences … / a unique spirit inherent birt…

Love Belongs Here is the first in a short series of my 21st Century Happiness poems. The Flute of the Infinite The flute of the Infinite is played without ceasing, and its sound is love: / When love renounces all limits, it reaches truth. / How widely the fragrance spreads! It has no end, nothing stands in its way. / The form of this melody is bright like a million suns: incomparably sounds / the vina, the vina of the notes of truth. (Kabir, 1450? -1518)

  • Playing the Popularity Game Without Caring if You Win or Lose
    by Stephen Mitchell

This started out as a response to Mundy Hackett’s recent article on his Journal , but like always … it got a bit long! So whilst it was originally aimed at Mundy, I’ve slightly modified to be aimed at anyone facing the same concerns: Online popularity is near impossible when you consider the ever-changing face of the WWW with a million images, articles and myspace pages being uploaded every few seconds … I’d have thought you’d be too busy marketing, selling and enjoying your photography to have time to worry about commenting, reciprocal or otherwse! So it surprises me that this issue is of any concern to anyone at all. Redbubble serves as a great gallery for our REAL-WORLD friends, family, plus potential and repeat clients to see what we enjoy, love and have available for sale. As for commenting and reciprocation … they rarely, if ever, equate to dollars in the bank. Yes, the whole RB community is so overloaded that nobody can stay on the surface for too long without being drowned in the masses reaching up for their five seconds of fame. So be it. We enjoy photography, right? WE’re selling, right? WE’re still here, WE have an established face and name, and WE’re in for the long-haul. That’s what matters. You and Me. US. As long as the minority (who have talent, skill, tenacity, and a ongoing desire to become better) continue to present their BEST work, they will succeed in selling their artwork on RedBubble. Not just showing off their artwork, but presenting to their clients what makes them good and how they are improving. Isn’t this what we are aiming for? By presenting my response here, I realise I open this up for discussion. Play nice. Pretend Mundy is your next client. DISCLAIMER: / This article probably doesn’t say any more than what’s been said a million times before. Yeah, well, sometimes it helps to rant a bit. This has been my turn. NEXT!!

  • Artist-Linkage and Size-Disclaimer
    by Stephen Mitchell

First, a screen dump to display two interesting points I’d like to mention about the RB purchase-page. !http://images-1.redbubble.com/...

First, a screen dump to display two interesting points I’d like to mention about the RB purchase-page. (1.) There’s no link-back from the purchase-page to the artists original image. Rather than ONLY the back-button in a browser be the only way to return to the previous page, an option needs to be available as a link within the purchase page. / I believe this option existed previously (both on the name and the art-title). Could we please have a link added to the Author/Artist’s name (as circled on image)? (2.) Possible Information to add to frame/lamination sizing. Other than ‘cards’, ‘framed with no border’ and the ‘canvas’ print, the other choices have a white or black matte around the image, plus a wooden frame. / Therefore, when a purchaser chooses a Framed Print, Large (406mm x 610mm), Flat Frame (30mm wide), the purchaser needs to be aware the entire image/frame is 406mm by 610mm, not just the image within. Maybe this issue has been covered in the forum’s, but I’m yet to see any changes on these issues.

A fellow Red Bubbler Caroline Fournier created a journal entry linking a number of works done by fellow Red Bubblers to show her appreciation for the support that had been given to her and her work. She had decided to do this after she noticed someone else had done this and that her profile had been linked. I in turn was very touched to find myself on her list. I have decided to follow her lead in the hopes that the example will be followed and to say a big thank you to those who always take time to comment on my offerings. Thank you Bubble-Buddies. Click on the photos below to be taken to these Red Bubbler profiles The incredible Karin Taylor / My secret love Roy Barry – oops!! / The darkly inspired Strangers / The sea and sky scape king Michael Rowley / The amazing Basia McAuley / Another Adelaidean Robby Cummins / > The stunning kcranmer / The sensually exquisite Karen Cougan / The exceptional Stephen Chapple / and a new buddy and talented writer Justin Jones / Oh and my awesome friends Uriel1972 and TazzyTiger – love you guys! There are many more and I will take time at a later date to focus on the special people who have collaborated with me on various bits and pieces.

The title, what was that? A bumper sticker. Anyhow it is cuts to the point of this entry. I listed on Redbubble to up my sales figures, not because I thought RB would push the sales, just that they would give me a decent platform. They have and more, RB is also a great supportive community of fellows artists. Now I need someody other than me to tell the boss. Yeah, the buyer, the end user, the dude who’s gonna knock a nail in the wall and hang up one of my prints. I’ve just done a Google image search for a few of my older images, “Park It”, “Little Sparrow”, “Not Coffee” all of which have been on RB for over 6 months now. If they do appear I don’t know it because I ran out of patience after the first five pages of results. / So here’s the pitch, would anybody who likes my pics (even a little) be interested in spreading the word on the www that there’s a who dude in Wiltshire who knows that he needs to remove the lens cap before taking a shot (errr well most of the time)? I’ll reciprocate of course. I’m happy to promote other artists images and RB profiles on the greater www. Two ways I am thinking of returning the favour would be; / I write for Associated Content and I will happily do a written piece on you, your art and what makes you tick etc. Secondly, I’m one of 6 million Stumbleupon members. I am happy to rate your Redbubble images on Stumbleupon which greatly ups the odd of your images being of being viewed by people other than fellow RB artists. Come on lets face it, a fellow photographer is far less likly to be buying your print/s than say a stay home mum/dad who really wishes, but doesn’t have the time to do pics to decorate the family home. So in a nutshell, if you wish to form a sort of network I guess and help one another improve publicity & “searchability” on the web, amongst friends etc with a view to upping sales, let me know. I’ve laid my cards on the table, if you have more ideas on how to go about doing this by all means lets hear them. Just in case the tone of this entry comes off as perhaps bitter, I am not. I love taking and making photographs, I love the buzz on RB and I have a day job. I have been anticipating doing this for a long time now. I am of the “If you’re going to do it, do it properly” ilk. I’d like to do this properly as well.

.......of no one but my own dream to have published literary works that are enjoyed by folks of all ages (be it that they are literate of course) and walks of life; that others can relate and identify only because I have strove to reciprocate in kind. It is my desire and hope that the 50 + years that I have dwelt upon this world, that I give in return for the many who have given to me of their time, patience, instruction, wisdom, sorrow and humor. It is with expectant elation that I write upon this “script” to convey blessings at every turn. If not, what then, are we occupying this space at this time with this so short a span o’ years? This my legacy – that should my name live beyond this so short a span – that I have come and gone to press hope, peace of heart, endearment, inspiration, aspiration to live as Christ has taught us, firmly and gently into the hearts of my readers. / Zack Leon Slaughter / Thomas Josiah Chappelle

I have just finished making the latest weekly update to AustralianReader.com. This week, there is one poem, and two short stories. I miss being able to submit to OzReader: it’s not the same if I put my work up, as there is no real sense of the excitement of it having been accepted. Later, this week, I hope to try and add a links page to the site. That way I can start getting a programme of reciprocal links, not only with other journals, but with links to other sites, such as RedBubble, that I am becoming involved in.
