A depiction of Boudicca rallying her troops to battle against the Roman Empire, in a desperate attempt to halt their empire building and globalisation. A brave, but failed, effort. It cost her dearly. Boudicca lends herself to a variety of supporters. To some, her actions represents a counter to the globalisation of the western world. Yet perversely Margret Thatcher visualised herself as Bouddica when she was dismantling the infrastructure of the UK, and softening it up for globalisation, which accelerated under Blair. Eventually, the Roman Empire was held in check by the Caledonians in the highlands of Alba (Scotland). Perversely, it is now a Scot, Gordon Brown, who is desperate to uphold the Globalisation Empire. How things change!

The ceiling of Eglise St-Eustache is definitely the focal point of the interior. It is spectacular! Called a barrel vault it consists of a series of arches placed side by side. Because of the remarkable acoustic created by this ceiling, the Symphony Orchestra of Montreal has been recording it’s music here for over 20 years.

By the time you start trying to teach me how to hate my neighbor, to de-humanize my neighbor… by the time you start teaching me how to stop trying to understand him or see him as my brother, it’s too late – I’ve already tuned you out.

What does it mean? The question is: what should it mean? It should mean that we’re unique, we think for ourselves, and we’re going to make a difference in the world. But that scares some people. So tell those people that it means that everyone should just try to be the same. That way they’ll get out of your face. Be normal, it’s your disguise.

A pillar is similar to a column which is a vertical support structure in architecture, but the base section is any shape but circular. It transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below, thus it supports the arches. In this case not only functional but beautiful!

Upon leaving the church I was caught up in a light rainfall. Several dark clouds had moved in. Standing in the parking lot I was enthralled by the dome roof and twin steeples I could see from the back. / The statue at the very front of the building is Saint Eustache himself. The patron saint of this area. A Roman military officer by the name of Placida, he converted to Christianity/Catholicism after having a vision in Italy of a stag with a crucifix between it’s antlers. The original structure of the church, prior to fire, was in the form of a cross. Legend says that he was seperated from his family in times of war and military service, and upon reunion with his family, he refused to take part in pagan ceremonies. Subsequently his whole family was put to death by fire. The altar of the church is decorated with beautiful art depicting various events in his life.

My husband particularly liked this shot! The clouds had darkened considerably and all of a sudden a small opening appeared, right above the steeples, as if the heavens were sending a ray of sunshine to us below. “A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” Albert Einstein Featured in the Stillness Speaks group.

Monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie at the site of his landing in Glenfinnan, Scotland, in 1745. This was the beginning of the last Jacobite Rebellion, which ultimately lead to a crushing defeat of the dream of an independent Scotland….
