The pinks in the rose and the quilted feel of the background offer warmth and comfort, along with the inspiring words of Emily Dickinson which reassure those who have lost their mother that she’s still close and caring.

This is the same photo as “Perched and Pretty” with the addition of text, “Don’t worry; be happy.”
This sparrow landed on the head of a Jesus garden statue and lingered long enough for me to take its photo. I thought of the verses from this hymn when I looked at the picture and decided to put the two together.
These replica lights have been constructed all along the coastal paths here in Fife. The newly defined walks are welcomed by tourists and local people alike. I am very fond of photographing different cloud formations as there is no end to the variations…the local people – and others – have their own interpretations for the different formations which makes it doubly interesting!
Heavenly Place
We all have those times when circumstances drive us to our knees in fears and worries and cares of this life…But I am so glad that we have an allknowing God who is touched by our infirmities…It is the sweetest Spirit that comforts us when nothing else will do.
This profound quotation is commonly called St. Teresa’s Bookmark as it was found tucked into one of the great saint’s books. St. Teresa of Avila was a Carmelite nun who lived in Spain and was a great mystic and prolific spiritual writer. I created this image today for three people: for Barbara and Jerry, my mother’s neighbors who lost their home in a fire yesterday. All of their worldly possessions were destroyed in about thirty minutes. Barbara ran out of the house with her purse, her robe and house slippers, and the cup of coffee she was holding when smoke billowed everywhere. The other person I created this for is a friend, Brenda, who emailed me to say she was feeling low and needed a word of encouragement. I thought that these three people who are deeply troubled would be comforted by these words of enduring wisdom and truth. Maybe someone else needs to hear them, too. God help us all to remember that he alone suffices and he alone is unchanging and dependable.
I’ve always loved this expression, “We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know Who holds the future.” This little Carolina chickadee looking heavenward is a good match with the expression as he seems to be looking toward the One who holds all things securely in His sacred hands.

In times of darkness / where shadows grip the light / and the heaviness of burden overides / love reaches through with its golden hand / and warms the way within your chest / A familiar comfort emerges / Where from is unknown / An inner song rejoices / Reflecting on the murky past / Opening your eyes to possibilities / Showing you the truth of lessons learned / Holding onto hope / Reassurance that all is well / Knowing that without darkness / The light becomes insignificant / The journey has not ended / It has only begun / New lessons to embrace / Armour from the past / Entwines your body / Each lesson squeezing tighter / Yet knowledge liberates / Clouds part within the mind / Creating equilibrium and tranquillity / For those who surround you / Without judgement / Know who you truly are / Contained within a portion of their soul / For all eternity / Knowing always that someone truly loves you.
Sometimes a bit of reassurance is needed and can be found in the oddest of places. Photograph was made in November 2005 – roughly 2 months after Hurricane Katrina came calling…
The timing couldn’t be better with God providing a glorious sunset last night in El Dorado Hills, in Northern California. /
Courage… What it takes to stand up and speak and also what it takes to sit down and listen… by anonymous (he wrote an awful lot, that fella!). I like the last bit best – probably the hardest to do too! / This was taken back in 1983, using negs. I scanned the neg and then did some touching up with photoshop (reminded me of the old print process, touch up the dust and other bits!). I also added the words because they weren’t in the sky at the time! / I hope this inspires people to either stand up or sit down, whichever is relevant! I’ll sit down now!
Joseph as a dad…The little details..
THE SUBJECT: / This young couple were arm in arm until they reached the pedestrian crossing. He let go but she held on, reassured by his presence. I had my Fuji trained on them from the moment they stepped off the kerb and hoped that no vehicle or people would get in the way. Photographer’s Luck again! THE LOCATION: / My favourite caffeine oasis, the Créma Espresso Bar in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia has moved from its riverside location to a larger premises in the CBD. While this means the end of my riparian candid photography it also means the beginning of some serious street shots as the new Créma is on a main intersection. / This shot was made while I was sitting at an outdoor table with a Nikon shooting Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate. We both had a ball! THE MAKING of ‘Reassurance’: / Because of the great contrast in the scene I set the exposure with a B&W in mind. / I decided on a softer, grainy effect for this one as I wanted to emphasise the light and lines rather than crisp detail. / Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/4.9 @ 1/320sec, Continuous focus, ISO80, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop. October 15 2007 / Inspiration from Jamaica Kincaid’s Girl
They looked at each other and smiled in anticipation: / They were in for a wild ride!
This one was inspired, in part, by this – open another window and listen while you read. It isn’t necessarily what seems obvious! / / You must decide what the ending is before you get to the last screen-load – no cheating!, but it is open to interpretation. There are approximately 3½ screenloads.
Our sweet lurcher, Drzl, is most definitely not a water dog. They are half greyhound and are not capable of swimming. This is due to the way they are built….the sink like a rock. Drzl does not care to be too close to the ocean. Small ponds, and pools are fine, but the vastness, and pounding of the waves against the rocks is not to her liking. My husband, Dave, is seen here reassuring her in a little field of sea grasses above the sea.

hello everyone. / well, i have been busy of late, so my first words will be those of apology. i have not been able to spend as much time amongst your beautiful art as i would like. i am writing my last year of school, and exams are around every corner. being at a boarding school doesn’t help. but know this: i am thinking of every one of you, of the words you write and the beauty you create, of all the amazing people i’ve met along my creative journey. this, is just the beginning. Next year I will be able to dedicate more time to myself, my art, and this place. secondly, I would like to reassure you. many have asked me if all is well in my life. my writing has, lately, been of a rather cynical bent. i am merely expressing a part of myself, ideas and thoughts both entirely new to me and as old as my existence. in particular, i have written about youth, and beauty, and the loss of both. but do not worry, friends. i am not in the darkness of which i write. all is well. this is also a time of excitement for me. i will be having a series of my photographs exhibited in a local art gallery, my first exhibition. as soon as i have enough works printed, i can have them put up. you can imagine my delight. today, i collected one of the prints i had ordered: Portrait of a Nation on canvas. it looks better than i ever dared hope. i am hopeful, for the future. more than hopeful. my joy is incandescent. i know that i can and will achieve. this is but the first stepping stone. thank you, each and every one of you.
My little Tammy holds her baby doll close in reassurance that all will be Ok.
