So many images on redbubble are stunning, but it’s the rare one that sticks with you. I’d like to nominate just such an image – Barfly by Shanina Conway. I wrote the following in the long “barfly”comments column – wow, tragic, elegant, rheumy-eyed human dignity slipping into darkness, the eyes red as an open wound, her shadow the color of poison.. It’s one of my favorite works of art. / Congratulations, Shanina, and thanks for sharing it on redbubble.

  • I finally got to paint this from my digital manipulation, Don’t Give Up Searching . I’m so pleased with the result. I used a few different textures and oil paint and made the eye brown rather then blue so that the image was unified in pallet to suit a college project so that I could paint this particular piece without abandoning duty. / UPDATE- / In 2008 this painting was STOLEN. / It was being displayed in Bentley Pines Restaurant with a group of other art from fellow students. toward the end of the year the restaurant went though refurbishments and stored the works in a disabled toilets :/ we were asked to collect the work but this painting had already gone before it could be collected. Ive contacted all the people in charge and been forwarded around like a telstra customer on hold and still haven’t gotten it back. :(

  • Probably one of the oldest artworks I’ve got up here… done in my second year of uni. Just three of my mates. But this is uniquely one of only 3 actual oil paintings I’ve ever done, on masonite. I always found oils difficult and still do, hence the fussy detail and lack of confidence with the medium. But I intend to have another go this year, maybe on a larger canvas.

  • “Mimesis” / It’s a word the ancient Greeks used to denote their love of copying nature to perfection, the bronze statues were found in the ocean off the coast of Riace, near Reggio Calabria Italy, they don’t know how they got there and took 8 years to restore them, but they are the best ancient Greek bronzes to ever make it through time. the Female is the viewer beholder, we are looking at her the modern contemporary idea of beauty, as she is looking upon the scene and the ancient idea of beauty, the fish are reminiscing of where the statues lay for thousands of years and are like swimming through time. If you were looking at the actual painting you could see the hairs on her arms, and the oxidation in the bronzes. / the architecture is dated from about the same time 450 bc as the bronze statues.

  • pencil on paper drawing – image size: 30” wide x 22” high (ORIGINAL SOLD) The title is a play on the word and the physicality of the drawing itself. If you turn this drawing on each side, and upside down, you will see the same face looking at you. (All ways) It also is a memorial – to commemorate some friends and family in my life who passed on but who I’ll remember and want noted for “always”. There are names in the trees and bark, and there is even a tiny little poem in the grass. Good luck finding it. I can only when looking at the original. It says: “The purpose of love and art are the same – to stop the clock.” (You can see the original framed drawing on the wall behind me at one of my solo shows a few years ago.) / AND, now available as a mug at Zazzle: / Always mug /

  • pencil on paper (unknown kind) drawing – 20” wide x 30” high – ORIGINAL SOLD This piece has seen the world. It spent a number of years touring Australia in Damian Michael’s Visionary Art Exhibition – hanging next to H.R. Giger, Laurie Lipton, Alex Grey and many other “fantastic”/visionary artists. This was drawn during a difficult phase of my life – but one of ultimate growth. It’s been very interesting to hear the many interpretations this drawing has provoked in viewers. I had someone ask me once if this was a female crucifixion scene. (no!) I was trying to say A LOT at that time in my life but felt I was mute in the world. So I decided to draw it instead. There are a number of variations of this drawing available as T-shirts in my Clothing section: Signed and numbered limited-edition prints are available at my main web site cynthia’s store

They are known in Chinese as “jian zhu” meaning “arrow bamboo”. / Fargesia victualia is only found on Tanega Island, South of Japan and is grown as a source for food and fuel. / The field in this painting consists of about 700 shoots. This image shows a detail. / This image gives an impression of the actual size. oil on canvas / 180×120 cm / original available

  • Simmondsia vitra is closely related to the Jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis), pronounced “ho-HO-bah”. Jojoba is native to the Sonoran and Mojave deserts of Arizona, California, and Mexico. This image shows a detail of this work. oil on canvas / 120×80 cm. / original sold

  • 9×12 pastel on Sennelier la carte paper FEATURED IN PAINTED LADIES, PETS AND PEOPLE, FIRST THINGS, FEMININE INTENT, AND THE DIVINE FEMININE I had so much fun drawing Barbara, but it is a lot of work trying to do portraits. I needed to do something completely from my imagination. And of course I can’t call it Blackbird without linking to the song!

  • For Rob. Towards the end of the novel, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Milan Kundera writes: “And therein lies the whole of man’s plight. Human time does not turn in a circle; it runs ahead in a straight line. That is why man cannot be happy: happiness is the longing for repetition.” I wondered then when I first read the novel—some 20 years ago, and I wonder today about the relationship(s) (probable and hypothetical) between happiness and repetition. • Close-up cropped sections of this work to showcase detail: This is a mixed media piece; created using a watercolor painting that I digitally altered with layers and layers of various colors then added enhancements with GIMP brushes I made myself. Emotions rushed through me as I finished this piece and I kinda got a little teary! Let’s just say it moved me. You see, I was about to trash the watercolor! It was an experiment in watercolor techniques….just playing around while learning. I didn’t really expect it to be anything more. This morning while clearing out some stuff in the studio I happened upon it, setting there in a stack of the same sort of experimental paintings and this little voice nagged at me to do something MORE with it…....and so this is the result. :) VIEW IT LARGE! This art work has been FEATURED in “The Dreaming Tree” group! :)

  • Digital art inspired by the horses of my childhood. :) Here’s how it looks matted and framed in black: /

  • © 2009 Danilo Lejardi / Main figure was done in Cinema 4D; also blended a couple of Apophysis renders, and did a bit of digital painting.
