...and I probably won’t be on RB for a long while. My flight leaves at 8pm, but I’m heading to the airport around 4:30pm. I arrive in Rome on Monday. I hope to do as much sight seeing as I can before classes begin; but aside from that there is a lot of other things I have to do (get cash, buy sketchbook, studio supplies, textbooks, laundry detergent; get some maps…) So some weeks ago I had decided that between that time then and tomorrow I would use my time to either study some Italian, plan what to see/familiarize myself with Italy and its culture, or lose as much weight as I can before I begin eating pizza and pasta everyday :P. Well I read some guidebooks but it didn’t really help me because I was not actually there to follow the footsteps of the words; though I did familairize myself a bit with the train systems (and read some warnings about using the automatic ticket machines) – so that was a good read and to know about ahead of time. Also watched a documentary on the Parthenon; that’s in Greece, but hey Greek and Roman ideals are close and it was still very interesting nonetheless. Studying my Italian; well, unless I study it continuosly I forget… just know a few basics; but in the worst case if someone tries to talk to me and I don’t understand, atleast I know “Mio no parla Italiano molto bene” (I don’t speak Italian very well) As for my diet… I just had a buffet so not doing very well there :P Met two high school friends today who I haven’t seen in 4 years and went to a Japanese buffet, which also had Chinese food and a chocolate fountain! Anyhow time to do some last minute packing (I haven’t yet packed away the items which I still needed to use everyday); will try to come back on RB ASAP just to say I arrived safely; but I would like to get as much personal business done as possible when I can (before stores and other business places close), so until then, Ciao! Oh and I’ll be living with an old couple who have a dog :-D !!!! Hehe, I’m a sucker for dogs.

My husband surprised me yesterday with one of those digital photo frames…absolutely great. Had so much fun uploading photos and music onto it. It’s such a good idea! / Anyway since Christmas is not far off, I am now thinking of taking and loading up Christmasy photos and of course music. So I think for the next couple of days I will be busy locating ornaments, lights etc. for my photos. I love Christmas.

/ All right. I’ve painted her before. / Again, I want to see if I’ve improved. / I have hundreds of pictures (slides, photos, 8mm movies), taken in those 37 years of teaching but seem to come back to certain subjects. / It feels like exercising, to see if my skills have improved. / / I’ve enjoyed getting this one started, yesterday, and worked on it a bit today. / Enjoyed it so much, that I picked up my accordion and played all those tunes all over again. Many of them ones that I first played in the late fifties, early sixties. / Morningtown Ride and Mummy told me something (The Pebbles and Bam Bam song), I taught to my first class, in 1964. / / I worked it out, again, today. She was 11 when I took this, photo, in 1967. / Take that away from 2008 and time has moved on! / I did have contact, via the old Schoolfriends.com.au website, with her younger sister, a few years ago and if I remember correctly was told she lives in South Australia. Could be wrong. / / Doubt that she’ll still be chewing on her pigtails. :)

For the last 17 years or so we have been hearing about Chinese Democracy, how expensive it was turning out to be and the number of people joining and quitting the project. But now I’ve heard, yet again, that it was happeing on November 23. That’s right folks, the new Guns N Roses record has been given it’s latest rumored release date. Honestly, I won’t believe it until I see it on shelves. countdown clock

So I finally got back my BETA draft of the D12 Gaming System from Megan Robertson, wonderful woman, and its a hit! / I obviously made some mistakes, but she could no flaw with the system and even called it ELEGANT which made me swoon – this woman donates so much of her time reviewing role playing games that is basically the only authority I trust when it comes to “good” or “bad” with games. / So I’m just trimming it all up and getting it tucked away into a nice PDF for printing and then BAM! AD CAMPAIGNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to get some new paintings ready, to do in my series, based on the illustrations of G. van Raemdonck, in the 1940 edition, Dutch version of Sans Famille, by Hector Malot. / / I’m taking someone else’s place, looking after the D.A.C.C. (Dutch Australian Cultural Centre) this Sunday. So I need to have something to do while waiting for visitors to find that section of the building, behind the Dutch shop. / / I’ll be taking my paintings to the D.A.C.C., again. / ... / I thought that, if I attended an art class, I’d get used to painting in a background first and then painting the shapes, rather than drawing and colouring – in but, apparently, it’s hard to teach an old dog, like me. / / I do like drawing with charcoal. / / I’ll also take some more books, to leave behind at the OBCZ (Official Book Crossing Zone), which I set up some time ago, outside the door of the D.A.C.C., to give books wings.

So now I have spent some time getting to know this place, and I must say I like what I see. / There is a lot going on, and the place has yet not been invaded by kids boosting each others pubertal creations, and telling seasoned illustrators, photographers and designers how they should go about doing their art. / And it seams to me, that “redbubble” look and feel a tad more serious and grown up than say, “threadless”: http://www.threadless.com/ ore “deviantART”: http://www.deviantart.com/ , where kids rules the turf, and 50% of the art is amateurish crap and half finished sketches and ideas. / It is apparent that “redbubble” run a tighter ship, and there for have a nicer display. / The next couple of days, I will upload some more art and T-shirt designs. And I will spend more time looking around, give kudos, vote and put in a nice word here and there. / I hope the site will stay “grown up” in the future too, and that wee all get to expose, sell and generally have a f….. great time together everybody!.
