ALLERGIC REACTION / OIL / 1800 US (ORIGINAL 14” X 18”) / SIGNED DEDICATED PRINTS AVAILABLE When is too much, too much? Can too much of a “good thing” be bad? I remember an early childhood memory, when I was very, very young, I loved chocolate covered cherries. They were my favorite. These chocolate delicacies were not readily available to this young person. These sweet treasures were found usually on special occasions, such as Christmas or some other special holiday. But one day my Grandfather gave me a whole box of these succulent candies. I was, to say the very least, quite pleased and happy to have all of these delicious treats for myself. It was as if I had found the hidden treasures of the tomb of Tutankhamen or a treasure trove of some lost Incan gold. I was entering the gateway to a chocolate Shangri La. I had in my possession the very ticket to a savory delectable vacation from the ordinary candies that I was familiar with. Now with these mouth-watering confections in my hands I was ready to go and eat to my heart’s content all of these chocolate treats. I secretly removed myself, along with my booty, from my “adult probation officers”, who called themselves my parents, and proceeded to the secluded lair of my bedroom. Here, in this private confidential room, I could proceed unhindered to consume all of the wonderful candied gems that I had been given possession of by my generous Grandfather. I ate them all immediately, one by luscious one, till I had filled my tiny little stomach to the point of bursting at the seams. Which, unfortunately, I must report happened convulsively and instantaneously. Such was my glutinous fate. I was learning my lesson the “hard way”, as my Mother would say. Now, many years have passed since that fateful instructive day. I have witnessed many an “allergic” reaction when I wrongfully assumed that what I have isn’t enough. The pursuit of the superfluous, no matter what it is, leads me down the path where the outrageous stings of possessiveness dwell. The obsessive “buzzing” noise of the appeal to acquire more and more can deafen the true voice of my “better” angels and weaken my resolve to live within my means. The swelling of my misdirected wants will only lead me to another convulsive and instantaneous eruption of what my Mother once called “learning the hard way”. Now, I still enjoy eating chocolate covered cherries. That fact remains the same. The difference now is that I don’t need to eat them all at once. I save some for another day. I have learned that life is not a sprint race but rather a marathon. I found it extremely valuable and necessary to learn the value of pacing oneself in this competition called Life. It is true that “Less is More”. visionary imagist “Joey”

  • Hathor
    by Sophie Shapiro

    US$4.99–US$114.00

Hathor is a very ancient goddess, dating to predynastic times. When dynastic rule began, as Horus was associated with the king, Hathor was with the queen. Her name translates to “The House of Horus,” and so she is associated with the royal family. But also, as the entire world could be said to be the House of Horus, Hathor can be seen as the mother-goddess of the whole world, similar to Isis.

  • This is a painting i did while manic yesterday… I painted it with my fingers and used a cardboard frame to act as a stencil for the square, used sand and paint for the square as well, the circle in the middle represents my sanity…its within the chaos…kept locked up safe and sound… Music played during it’s creation / soundtrack to the Matrix~Prime Audio Soup by Meat Beat Manifesto, Clubbed to Death by Rob D. and Towards completion, Infected by Bad Religion with some Static X to even it all out!

I just want to take a minute to let you know where it is I am coming from in terms of my art both visually and written. I have almost no hang ups and laugh in the face of most taboos. My art reflects this and I sometimes push people’s emotional buttons for better or worse. I certainly hope you enjoy my stuff and I do make every effort to ensure those people who do not want to be exposed to it are not. The subjectiveness of art means that I can mean one thing, but it is interpreted as another. In the interests of maintaining the amazing tone and quality of this site I will happily remove any works if requested. I do tend to use myself as a subject, mainly out of a lack of options, but also out of my perfectionist nature. Again this is something that really changes the dynamic of art and as such I am doing my best to tread lightly. I also like to draw from reality which provokes strong reactions. It is harder to confront something if it is personalised and has a context which is meaningful to you. I think this makes art more real and exciting and dangerous and limitless. It can be emotionally draining (and plain terrifying) for the creator but of amazing value to the viewer. I hope I am not the only person who appreciates this perspective on the creation of art. So what is all this getting at? I guess what I’m saying is that I’m trying my best to walk a fine line between making the art I want to make, and doing it in an inoffensive way. If you want to talk to me about it, I welcome and encourage you to do so. Jo

Yesterday, I purchased sushi for my lunch. It was eel, / salmon and veggie. Around noon, I ate six pieces and drank some / hot tea. Less than fifteen minutes later, I had the sensation that / I was going to swallow my tongue. I could not breathe easily. My heart raced, almost to the point of exploding. I breathed through / my nostrils, since breathing through my mouth felt impossible. I / was convinced that I would swallow my tongue. I tried lying down, / but the effect became even worse. I walked through my home, room / by room, talking out loud to myself to ‘remain calm, breathe, try / to swallow’. Repeatedly I had to spit out my saliva. I could not swallow. / I forced myself to put water in my mouth, which I then spit / out. Eventually, I was able to get small amounts of water down / my throat. This lasted over two hours. I convinced myself that I was having / an anxiety attack. Today, I decided to eat the rest of the sushi for lunch. The same / thing happened, only more profoundly. It was all I could do to / keep from phoning 911. I could not sit. All I could do was walk / through the house talking out loud to myself again, trying to / stay as calm as possible. It is 5pm now, and I still am not completely / recovered. I believe that I had an allergic reaction to the eel, and that I was / going into Anaphlylactic shock, or even perhaps had acquired / Scombroid poisoning. Outside of my near death due to penicillin, / this was the most frightening. About an hour ago, I developed / a migraine with really spectacular lights, which has now subsided, / for which I am so grateful. Saturday 5/31/08

  • Daisy Chain
    by Gail Bridger

    US$4.32–US$98.80

Two-stage thermonuclear weapons are essentially a daisy chain of fusion-boosted fission weapons, with only two daisies, or stages, in the chain. The second stage, called the “secondary,” is imploded by x-ray energy from the first stage, called the “primary.” This radiation implosion is much more effective than the high-explosive implosion of the primary. Consequently, the secondary can be many times more powerful than the primary, without being bigger. The secondary could be designed to maximize fusion energy release, but in most designs fusion is employed only to drive or enhance fission, as it is in the primary. More stages could be added, but the result would be a multi-megaton weapon too powerful to be useful. / Also: / – A daisy chain is an interconnection of computer devices, peripherals, or network nodes in series, one after another. It is the computer equivalent of a series electrical circuit. In personal computing, examples of “daisy-chainable” interfaces include Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) and FireWire, which allow computers to communicate with peripheral hardware such as disk drives, tape drives, CD-ROM drives, printers, and scanners faster and more flexibly than previous interfaces. / Experimentation! / This picture first started out as a picture of the moon. /
