A Woman with outstretched arms seems to hold the sun between her two hands. It is late in the evening and there is an orange glow everywhere

This woman is a victim of a seemingly never ending war in southern congo. She has suffered sexual violence (rape) so severe it has rendered her incontinent. She now exists purely as a result of a courageous charity called Heal Africa, and indeed her own inner strength and faith. I asked her if I could take her portrait and she stood up (which must have been painful), straightened her back and stared straight down the lens. No stopping to straighten her scarf, no preening, no fear. Just an honesty so raw, so uninhibited and so rare, I caught my breath and thought I’d never breath again. I was totally overpowered by her intensity. After I took the shot and showed it to her she smiled and thanked me. It still gives me a shiver to look at it now. HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! Oil Pastel and Acrylic (Original Sold) Concept: It has been slightly more than 365 days that I resigned from my previous job to pursue this. I drew this on that first year anniversary to remind myself of my dreams, to let them burn brightly always and keep them within sight. Reach
by Peter HillThe Anzac Bridge at Pyrmont, in Sydney. Before today I had shot it at various times of day, in colour, black & white, and infra-red, with 4 different cameras over a period of time, including an infra-red converted EOS 10D, and a myriad of lenses, including an EF 15mm Fisheye, a Sigma 10-20mm, an EF 70-300mm DO IS, an EF 24-70mm, and a Sigma 50mm. I can’t get enough of this bridge, and drive over it twice a day! Oh yes, I’ve shot from inside a car too! Today I shot it at lunchtime with a handheld Canon EOS 5D Mark II and a brand spanking new Lensbaby Muse, which is the new version of the original Lensbaby. I chose the Muse over the Composer, which has a focusing ring, as I’m a manual sort of guy and with my first exposure (ouch) to a Lensbaby, I enjoyed the control over the focus point using the fingers. I also tried to shoot to the bridge with a Super Wide Angle (x42) attachment, but those shots are too freaky, even for me to upload. I left an f4 aperture ring in the lens for this shot, and used ISO 50 at 1/400th of a second. After converting the single RAW file, there was no processing done.
