  • Hack: RedBubble art list exporter for Microsoft Windows
    by Dave Pearson

Ever since I wrote getrbart I’ve been toyi…

Ever since I wrote getrbart I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a variation on that theme that might be useful to people who aren’t in the habit of getting “down and dirty” on their Windows machines, people who prefer not to install software they don’t know about and who don’t fancy running command line scripts. Last week I finally cracked and started work on something: This is a very early release of the software, it doesn’t do a whole lot of stuff. Things it does do: Lets you download a list of all your public art on RedBubble. Lets you save the list and load it again later. Lets you download it again (dur!) Lets you export the list as a comma-separated values file. Lets you export the list as a tab-separated values file. Lets you export the list as a MediaRSS file. Lets you export the list as a set of HTML files, which might be useful for including in your own website (if you have one). Please note that this is a very early release of the tool. I’m making it available to people who are feeling adventurous (or foolish, depending on how you want to look at it) and who won’t mind reporting problems or giving suggestions. I can’t promise that it’ll do everything you want, but I can promise that it’ll be free to download, free to use and will always be free to use. If you fancy having a play head over here and have a read and, if you like what you see, download, install and have a play. For the programmers out there: the source code can be found over on github. PS: Yes, I know the application icon sucks in a big way. I’m a developer, not a designer. :P Version Details: v1.11.0.0 — Released 2009-12-07 / v1.10.0.0 — Released 2009-10-30 / v1.9.0.0 — Released 2009-06-02 / v1.8.0.0 — Released 2008-10-14 / v1.7.0.0 — Released 2008-10-12 / v1.6.0.0 — Released 2008-09-21 / v1.5.0.0 — Released 2008-05-21 / v1.4.0.0 — Released 2008-05-16 / v1.3.0.0 — Released 2008-05-16 / v1.2.0.0 — Released 2008-05-15 / v1.1.0.0 — Released 2008-05-14

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.1.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.1.0.0). You can get it from here. The main change in this release is to implement an idea suggested by Julie Langford. There’s now a command that lets you generate simple “promotion codes” for individual works which can be used elsewhere: You simply pick the style of code you want (Textile for use on RedBubble itself, BBCode for use on sites that use BBCode and some simple HTML that might be useful in blogs and the like) and the style and size of image you want and then copy the result to your clipboard.

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.2.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.2.0.0). You can get it from here. The main change in this release is to enhance the “promote a work” dialog as per Julie Langford’s suggestion. Whereas before it simply let you promote with a simple image it now lets you promote with a simple image or one of the various product previews: Another change is that I’ve added a command that takes you directly to a work’s edit page on RedBubble, something I thought of after reading a comment made by Shelley Heath. Edit to add: I’ve just noticed a small bug. If you try and generate a promotion code for a mounted print with no border the resulting code doesn’t work. This is now fixed and will be available in the next release.

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.3.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.3.0.0). You can get it from here. The main change in this release is the addition of a “Preview” button to the promotion code dialog: When you use this a new window will appear that shows a preview of the image that is generated, like this: Also, as per a suggestion from shawhouse, I’ve added size parameters to the laminated and framed prints. This does make a subtle difference to the final image. And now for a bug: reflexio has discovered that RBArtMan fails to download your art list if you’ve only got a single page of art. I’ll see about fixing this at some point today.

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.4.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.4.0.0). You can get it from here. The main change in this release is the addition of profile promotion code generator dialog: It generates code that creates a banner for your profile just like you can find in your promote tab here on RedBubble. The main difference is that it’ll do Textile code (used here on RedBubble) and BBCode as well as HTML. This release also fixes a bug that was reported by reflexio. Cheers reflexio!

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.5.0.0). You can get it from here. There are no new features in this release, all it does it tidy up a couple of loose ends and adds a little more error checking in places.

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.6.0.0). You can get it from here. This release adds a new export option. You can now export your art list as a MediaRSS file. This is useful if you want to add CoolIris support to one of your own websites. For details on how to add support to your website see the CoolIris developer guide.

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now and, today, I finally got around to it. Having created a github account today one of the first things I did was create a project for RBArtMan. The code is released under the terms of the GNU GPL. This way, if anyone fancies spinning off their own version, or picking it up and carrying on should I fall under a bus, the source is now available.

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.7.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.7.0.0). You can get it from here. This release makes a change to the work promotion dialog that lets you specify where you want the promotion code to link to. Before it would only link to the normal view page for a work. Now, as an option, you can link directly to the purchase page for the work: The difference is as follows. If you click on the following image you’ll get the normal view page: whereas with the promotion code set to link to the buy page, you’ll get this: Before anyone asks: no, sorry, I can’t have it so that you can specify exactly which product is linked to when going to the buy page.

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.8.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve just uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.8.0.0). You can get it from here. This release makes a couple of small changes to the HTML and MediaRSS export facilities. Now, when you export some HTML, you can specify if you want the images to link to the normal view page for a work or link to the buy page: When you export a MediaRSS file you can also specify where the links will go. You can also set your own values for some of the key items of information in the resulting RSS file:

I forget to test this when the new RedBubble layout was released but, at the moment, both getrbart and RBArtMan have stopped working due to the recent changes on RedBubble. I hope to look into this properly in the next couple of days. Apologies to anyone who might use either of these tools but, sadly, this is the sort of thing that can happen to 3rd party tools (especially ones that try and provide a service that the site they work against should be providing).

  • Hack: RBArtMan v1.9 and getrbart v1.9 Released
    by Dave Pearson

Further to my journal entry the other week-...

Further to my journal entry the other week where I pointed out that RBArtMan and getrbart no longer work: thanks to the nice people at RedBubble (and especially Russell) the issue with the site that was causing the main problem is now fixed. However, because of a (sensible) change to the code of the site both RBArtMan and getrbart have had to be updated. Without these updates both tools will think you’ve only got one page of art. Download these new versions and you’ll be back up and running correctly again. Latest versions can be found here: getrbart / RBArtMan And, as always, if you’re a developer and you want to play with the source for RBArtMan, it’s available over on github.

  • Hack: RedBubble Art Manager for Windows v1.10.0.0 Released
    by Dave Pearson

I’ve uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application...

I’ve uploaded a new version of my RedBubble art manager application (this is v1.10.0.0). You can get it from here. This release fixes a problem where any attempt to download your list of works would result in a 503 error (it seems that the cause of the problem was this and the way that the .NET XML parser works — or so I could tell). If you were experiencing a 503 error when downloading, this is the version that fixes the problem for you.

Dave Pearson has saved my life. At least my Red Bubble life. :-) It’s hard to live without hair on the TOP of your head. When you’re a guy constantly pulling out facial hairs, things that prevent it are blessed. Dave has created one of those blessed things. RBArtman is a tiny program that lists all your Red Bubble art when you ask it to download it for you. For some, getting a list of their work isn’t work to sort thru. For the more prolific of us, it’s a challenge. For me, it was impossible. I weed out stuff as quickly as I can but my galleries seem to grow on their own. Worse, I get too artsy-fartsy with titles and can’t find the images without a long search of ALL Red Bubble submissions. Yeah, yeah. Tags are fine. Until your tags are the same tags as 4000 other RB’ers. Then a tag (or even a title) might appear hundreds of times. Even if you CAN keep all your stuff in order, can you edit them from a list? Nope. The option for making all your thumbnails go away and make it easier to get a ton of image names on a page exists within your computer but not inside Red Bubble. Well, a simple right click on a download piece offers you links to edit the piece as well as promote it automatically. :-D Not only can you save each downloaded list as a Artman file, you can export lists as CSV files, making a list of comma separated entries for saving as a text file. Here’s the important part: “This RedBubble hack is brought to you by Dave Pearson. Please note: This isn’t associated with RedBubble. RedBubble don’t endorse this, there’s no connection. It’s just a hack to make life a little easier.” Dave Pearson is also a longtime and active Red Bubble member. Check out his work and you’ll see why he’s a LOT more than a techie! :-D Thanks again, Dave. I still have most of my mustache left. ;-)
