Red Bubble reminds me of my own mind as I get older. / I start off looking at a picture, so I click on the picture and go to the member’s profile. / I then browse through their portfolio, and favourites, and spot another picture that is just gorgeous. / I click on the picture and go somewhere else, to another wonderful artist’s profile, where I spot their journal. / I start reading their journal and in the midst of that I read a comment by a fellow member that grabs me, so I click on their member name and go to their portfolio. / And so it goes on until I am a million clicks away from where I started with no idea how I got there. / I love it here. It fits me to a tee LOL

Are there any stats of how many members are in different bits of the world, I wonder. It would be so interesting to see a world map with dots for the members in different locations. / I’m continually finding more and more people whose work I like – so many I just can’t keep up with them all. / How do other members keep up with their friends and checking out people’s work? It takes at least an hour a day, which is fun but my husband is complaining of neglect and the weeds are growing in the garden!!!

This is for the hugely talented and creative (i can’t stress the word CREATIVE enough) Sarah Moore Her Avalon series and love of All things Python seem to go hand in hand for a tribute that I hope she’ll enjoy. Quotes taken from the side splitting “The Holy Grail” film. King Arthur: I am your king. / Woman: Well I didn’t vote for you. / King Arthur: You don’t vote for kings. / Woman: Well how’d you become king then? / King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king. / Dennis: Listen, strange women lyin’ in ponds distributin’ swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Or Boz as some people affectionately call him He may change his avatars more times than the seasons but I had to do a lot of work to catch up. And when i’m ready to pounce, what does the pre-emptive genius do? Changes into a new avatar! Well, i’m recovering from a knee op and the doctor won’t let me near the car, so I can’t even go looking for the barren landscape, to drive a stolen white car down to duplicate so I shall remind people of the 4 seasons of Mr B. Winter / Mr B notices the temperature drop down to a chilly 20 degrees c. Time for my hat methinks Spring / Ha Ha! It’s warming up now, a cool 32 degrees today, time to empty the cupboard and find my thongs! (The Australian thong, not the UK variety – read flip flops my fellow English folk) Summer / What, 43 degrees! Woo hoo! Time to grab a beer or two before I descend into a cave to cool down. Autumn / Time for Mr B to ponder as he realises that his summer fun is over and he needs to find a bonfire to huddle up to for the next 6 months as the temparatures plummet to the low twenties. Brrrrrr! Whilst pondering over the seasons, the legend that is Mr B is a mighty fine photographer to boot. Don’t believe me? Then step right up and feast your eyes on these visual treats…

I was honoured enough to be asked to contribute to the community highlighting 10 portfolios to see For any of you that missed it, here it is in full. Once again, please leave any comments on the works you like. Stuart __________ With numbers of members increasing by the hour as more and more people stumble across this sight it’s becoming increasingly easier to miss amazing quality work. I have tried to find 10 “must see” portfolios from artists that I believe are not as “well known” as others on Redbubble. In no particular order 1. Matt Granz A small but thouroghly impressive portolio where the emphasis is most definately quality over quantity. A great display of lighting and composition of both night and day shots are to be found here. My personal favourite is Sunset at Death Valley 2. GrimDuke1 A local artist (by my bearings and location) with an instantly striking portfolio from various locations in various styles. My personal favourite is Thunderbird 7 3. Greg Artis Landscape photography that just blows me away everytime and makes me wonder what i’m doing wrong with my camera. It’s hard to choose one favourite but I always keep coming back to River Coupall time and time again 4. EchoNorth Echo North’s uploads always make me want to dig out my passport, max out the credit card and jump on the next plane to Canada. My personal favourite is Autumn Colours, Lake Minnewanka 5. Oastudios Oastudios has been filling up my activity box with quality after quality image for a while now. His trademark low light and long exposure shots are instantly recognisable One of my personal favourites will always be Rock and Tide 6. Andrew Walker One of the first people I remember meeting on redbubble in the summer of 2007, it’s been great watching Andrew’s portfolio just get better and better with every upload. My personal favourite is Homage 7. Zabcoloma After browsing through some new members that have recently joined I had the pleasure in coming across this particular portfolio. I really like the feel to Serene 8. Lachlan Kent I only came across Lachlan’s work when I was searching pictures for the county where I live and his surname came up! Lachlan’s style is just amazing and he has the incredible ability to make the ordinary appear extraordinary. So hard to choose a particular favourite but i’ll always love Think 9. Danise Tang I came across Denise when doing my RB tour of the world and her image below just really stood out and is one of my favourite images of all time on this site 10. Chuck Wickham The reason why tags are important. For the 10th portfolio I typed Yosemite sunset into the search and came across this portfolio. When looking for new artwork I always use the search facility. The image that stood out was El Capitan, Sunset, Yosemite

Here are instructions for the T-Shirt. **Update / You need a transparent background – use these programs to make the transparent background. / _________ / You can use any graphics software that supports PNG files. We recommend Adobe Photoshop (which costs a bit of cash) or http://www.gimp.org/ / (which is free!) Other popular graphics programs which support the PNG format include Photoshop Elements, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Photo-Paint, Inkscape (another free one), Paint Shop Pro, Pixel image editor, Paint.NET and Xara. / _________ / I USE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENT 7 (aka-PSE-7) To make the transparent background. 1- open the image you want to make transparent. 2- by default, Elements creates a single layer for an image called Background layer. In layers palette, double-click the background layer, and change its name in the Name field to something like “Regular Layer”, then click OK. 3-Using any combination of selection tools (I used the QUICK SELECTION tool) you choose, select the part of the image that you want to be transparent. 4-Choose Edit-Delete to remove those selected parts of the image. A checkered-board pattern fills those areas, indicating they’re now transparent. 5-Choose File-Save for Web to open the Save for Web dialog. 6-Select any one of the GIF formats from the preset drop-down menu. 7-If it’s not already selected, click to select the Transparency check box. / The image in the optimized preview area will be displayed against a transparency grid pattern. There are other steps after this, but they are about putting in a color to replace what you removed. You don’t want that for your transparent background. NOW get the RB template and load you picture. / _________ 1-Go to your T-shirt section and download the RB’ template on your computer. 2-Open the template and CTRL + ALT + DEL to delete all the text on the template. 3-File and import your picture and place it on the template. Remember not to put it too high as otherwise the picture will be stuck on top of the tee. 4-Save as PNG (it should already be a PNG file). (I make mine a PNG before I start and also I make the size 2400×3200 for the template requirements) 5-Upload it on RB and you’re all set. You can click on “file” and choose “import” your image on the template. The template has the right size, but your iimage can be adjusted to the size you want. Bear in mind that it’s only vertical. / _________ / I use photoshop to put my picture in the template. / I use edit image size in photoshop and set it at the 2400×3200px, then save as PNG. / I then pull up the template, make sure it is clear and then bring up my picture. I copy and paste it to template. Sometimes you will need to use the size tool and squeeze the picture to fit in the template. Once there, size it to template space. / Save and your done, make sure it is a PNG

Hello friends of RB, I’m now co-hosting Anaglyph World and as you can imagine am very excited to have been given the opportunity, we’d love to have more members and we also hope to offer lots of exposure to all you talented artists and photographers who would enjoy making anaglyphs as another source of income, these are not a dying phase but a new way of making your work dimensional.. And certainly would be a fabulous talking piece in any home. / We have a banner challenge running at present which we’d love you to be a part of, if you have thought about making the 3D images but not sure how to I’ve added a few links below where these programs/actions pretty much do it all for you, you just load the image you want to make into an Anaglyph, press a few buttons and wallah! The creations are endless and extremely fun.. Need the program or Action scripts for Photoshop? You can grab a program off the internet called AnaMaker If you click on the name I’ve just added then it should automatically start to download your free copy :0) If you require the action script for Photoshop these are terrific / 3-D Color Action / 3-D BW Action To place the action scripts into Photoshop simply download, right click on the preset and select copy and then paste into: / C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Actions / Once you have done this you will need to load it into your action scripts by selecting *Load Actions See more on my page A Whole Page For Photoshop It also helps if you can grab yourself some 3D glasses, I got some really cheap on eBay so it might be a good starting place if you don’t have any. I think the ones that are red/cyan are the best :0) have fun! Kaz / x Here’s some things I’ve made:

  • Is RB "soliciting feedback" on new policies and rules a "RED HERRING"???

HI! / Many of you will be aware there has been somewhat of an upheaval across this website these past weeks regarding in general – the rules and policies re expected behaviour and how they have been enforced. In response to this, RB admin and management are working really hard to put together as clear a statement re what is, and what is not acceptable behaviour, and what the resultant penalty for ‘overstepping’ any particular mark should be. Excellent!!! They now have an (apparently draft) document on this that is beginning it’s process of ‘solicited feedback’, firstly by having been assessed by RB staff, currently it is available to group hosts to view and comment on, and sometime (soon, I expect) it should be made available to the general RB membership to add their feedback. This is all a very fine, extremely difficult and confusing (due to the already extremely varied viewpoints expressed) and SLOW process. I have read the proposed new rules and guidelines pdf document I believe now 7 times, making notes as I go. On the whole, there are a few rather minor issues that I believe MAY be queried re how they are to be defined and enforced, but overall, everything is extremely clear and well set out. The earlier ‘rules and policies’ (when I finally found them) I ALSO thought were quite clear, well set out and defined. The one major difference between these 2 documents is that the new one allows for a ‘review process’ for those who wish to activate it, whereas there was no recourse to review before. / This is, in principle, a truly EXCELLENT addition to the rules and guidelines. So far – all fine and good and excellent??? Yes??? With, in my honest and truly thought through opinion, ONE EXTREMELY SERIOUS OMISSION WHICH IS BEING TOTALLY IGNORED AS EVERYONE (well – only hosts so far) RUSH TO AIR THEIR OPINIONS AND ARGUE OVER THE FINE PRINT IN THE NEW GUIDELINES – AS WELL AS ISSUES NOT IN THE NEW GUIDELINES AT ALL (LOL)....... The primary reason there was a great upheaval and huge anger and disillusionment throughout the RB community was NOT the ‘enforcement of any rule or guideline per se’. The primary reason for the huge upheavals and the extremely upsetting and destructive arguing in the forums over the past weeks was the PERCEPTION OF UNFAIR AND INCONSISTENT APPLICATION OF RULES AND GUIDELINES. RB management HAS ADMITTED that, since it’s not well advertised assumption of altered rules in February, it’s application of those rules HAS NOT BEEN CONSISTENT OR FAIR. Nowhere in this new document, or in any of the information provided to, or solicited (from so far only staff and hosts) does Red Bubble management provide ANY information at all on how they intend to implement not just this new rules and policy document (in whatever slightly edited form it may finally see the light of day), but also on how they intend to firstly make sure that these new guidelines and rules are implemented CONSISTENTLY AND FAIRLY, and, how they are going to be made to BE SEEN TO BE IMPLEMENTED CONSISTENTLY AND FAIRLY. If the previous rules were unable to be administered consistently and fairly – what reason does anyone at this point in time have to consider that the implementation of ANY format of ANY rules and guidelines will in future be able to be more fair and consistent than to this point in time? In my honest opinion – an EXTREMELY BIG HOLE in RB management’s response to the recent upheavals. I would hope this could be addressed well BEFORE any potential new rules and guidelines need be submitted to ANY feedback at all….. I welcome any and all opinions here on this – my statement of my opinion. However, I will not reply to any comments left here until, at the earliest – sometime tomorrow. / I am, at the moment, extremely tired. I have spent by far the greater proportion of the past weeks on RB policy and procedure issues, with virtually NO time to myself and / or my artwork. For the sake of my sanity, I am now, on posting this journal, going to turn my internet off, and concentrate for a bit on what I should be spending most of my time doing – my photography (as well as resting lol). / I resolve truly to not delete any comments here that may disagree with what I have written – I am interested in fair and open expression for all. / Cheers - / Kallena xx

Hello everybody, Yesterday, I came to some news that are not really that new but very shocking. Please read further and help our fellow members. The problem: RB is experiencing too much fraud and being pushed by PayPal, they have to lower the fraud ratio asap. Unfortunately, RB’s ‘solution’ is to disallow new members from certain (many!) countries to join RB, and existing members from these countries, to buy anything from RB, including their own art. RB claims that such a solution only affects about 1% of all sales. Unfortunately, sellers are not the same as buyers, and many a good artist and honest member of the community became discriminated by this ‘solution’ only because of his/her country of residence. Such a ‘solution’ is very impolite to members of the community from those countries, who also add a lot to the community’s (and RB’s!) success; even more because of the fact that the ‘solution’ was not communicated to those members who are affected by the changes. Also of a concern, RB claims that finding and applying another solution will take at least one month; but they know about the problem already since summer. Why didn’t they work on a better solution all that time? You may be worried about the current situation now, as much as I am. If you are not, ask yourself: When some fraudulent people starts their ‘business’ from my country? Will my country also be banned from RB? It may happen next week… I’ve just created new feedback suggestion Let people from all countries become members of RB community. It says: / — / RB tries to prevent itself from fraud by not posting to some countries and not allowing new members from these countries. It is very important for the whole community and future of RB to find another, more appropriate solution as soon as possible. People from those countries have to have possibility to become members and share their art. Possibility to buy from RB should be assessed individually, members from any country should not be disclosed by default just because of residence in that country. / — / Should you find it appropriate, please go and vote to it. Can we show RB that we find this theme really important? Have a nice day and good light, / Lenka / PS: Would you like to read all the details of the story? Please read JudyBJ’s journal ‘Can someone please explain what this means ?!’ here, or Rosalie Dale’s journal ‘A matter of concern …’ here, or Philip Golan’s journal ‘RedBubble Regional Geographic Member Discrimination’ here, or (currently locked) forum ‘Why only certain countries?’ started by Miron Abramovici here
