  • Taken at the front fence of a potato farm outside Ravenshoe, North Queensland.

  • This lovely waterfall is the widest waterfall in Australia! Doesn’t compare to Niagra Falls I know but spectacular none the less after a good rain. It runs through the beginning of the dry savannah land that heads out to the Gulf (of Carpentaria) from Ravenshoe, North Queensland, Australia. / I have given this an artwork treatment to look like a landscape painting, I hope you like the effect, I thought it turned out rather lovely. / This area truly is a magical place and I visited it just to take this photo because I love going there so much. You can actually walk around the back of the waterfall where it is all relatively flat. / This image is best viewed in LARGE. This makes a wonderful card and I have this printed out, ready for sale in my local town. / Millstream Falls, Kennedy Highway, Ravenshoe, Nth Queensland, Australia. I use a Canon Powershot A480 10mp on super macro. / /

  • During Easter the grandest building in Ravenshoe burned to the ground – it didn’t seem fair that this was once a place of God – The Old Convent. / The Old Convent was loved by everyone in Ravenshoe, built in a time forgotton and lost forever, now. / A collective cry was heard around the town and I even saw tears flow, an outpouring of grief for a majestic old lady, small by a city’s standard but huge in the eye’s of Ravenshoe’s heartbroken residents. / You can Google it and see the glory it once was. The Old Convent, Ravenshoe, Queensland, Australia. It no longer operates as a bed and breakfast and was a private residence at the time. It was also a 2 story residence, not that you would know… / I have taken this the day after and added in the blood red sky for illustrative purposes of the destruction…you can still see the iconic gables and the tall chimney. Just so sad. A Far Nth Queensland icon, gone now but not forgotten.

  • Here is a panoramic image of 3 of the 20 windmills that grace the tops of Windy Hill, Ravenshoe, Far North Queensland. It is always like this – overcast and windy, I rented a place on Windy Hill for 6 months, I thought I was in a windtunnel the whole time…and it literally is! The windtunnel travels from down the coast and up the Cardwell range, pretty much the way Cyclone Larry came in too. I’m sure it is the only place in the tropics in perpetual grey! / The windfarm provides power to the North and is a wonderful sight, a 2 hour drive up the Atherton Tablelands from Cairns, well worth a drive! / Taken with a Canon Powershot A480. I have added a light Oil Painting effect. I hope to market this print locally. / Creative Spirits of Queensland

  • This is a Post Card style collage art featuring some beautiful Gazania flowers from the Gazania gardens in the main street of Ravenshoe, it is kept by the volunteers of the Garden Club, small town caring style. (black background)

  • This little yellow daisy is as strong as it’s colour and shining bright!

  • It’s not for everyone…. Far North Queensland, Australia. It really is a beautiful place.

  • A recent cross country competition in Ravenshoe, Far North Queensland. Hosted by Ravenshoe Pony Club. Ravenshoe Pony Club has the only ‘approved for competition’ cross country courses for Pony Club members north of Ingham. Riders are judged on an ideal time and points are awarded for height of jump attempted. Three baulks or refusals at any one jump eliminates the rider. The jumps vary from tyres, logs, concrete pipes, jumps set up in different shapes and lots of uneven ground. Each time a cross country is run a new course is set. Riders are set off with 5 mins between start times so the horses are not getting Dutch courage from another! Its particularly challenging for those horses that are based in the city and are usually only exposed to quite a sterile environment. Water usually freaks them out and lots of riders are eliminated here – its the last jump!!

  • until tomorrow I really like this image for some reason, can’t quite put my finger on why.. / Maybe the sense of height it conveys, with the telegraph poles being higher than the bright sunset coloured sky, which is leaving Ravenshoe heading west, probably half way to the Gulf in that picture, the silhouette of the typically Australian telegraph or power pole giving us a clue that it is not as isolated as it looks..

  • Ravenshoe is a bit of a way from anywhere so when you hit this straight and see that big ole windmill in front of you it’s a great feeling…you know you’re on the Home Straight To Ravenshoe! /

  • A collage I’ve made for the 3 photo challenge in The Woman Photographer Group. It comprises 3 shots of the Ravenshoe Steam Train. The first a wheel that connects the carriages. The second The Capella Locomotive under steam. The third the safety gates and canvas ‘curtain’ that runs between the carriages. / The Ravenshoe Steam Train runs between Ravenshoe and Tomoulin on most Sundays of the year. The locals look forward to Xmas Eve when they climb on board for some celebrations and fireworks after the return journey. /

  • On Sunday 26th July I took my little boy, Andrew 3 and my youngest daughter Alex, whose 10 for a Train Ride…we had gone to the Markets but the old steam train Capella was cranking up and her steam was blowing, it was too hard to resist, so on we jumped and we started our fun…Riding Capella. This is 2/30 in the Series. / I have quite a few of Riding Capella because she is such a beautifully, old restored girl that I wanted to capture all her glory whilst riding…she even has WW2 memorabilia that I will bring you…I hope you enjoy my day out with my children, Riding Capella… Capella lives at the Ravenshoe Train Yards, F.N.Q where you can ride her every Sunday at 1.00pm from Ravenshoe to Tumoulin on a track only used by her now, they even have scones! Great fun out for anyone. This one shows Capella going over a very old wooden bridge. /

Great fun out for anyone. Going over the very old wooden bridge I took this shot, looking down at the creek bed below it was quite something to think of this old bridge doing it’s job in the Wet when the water rushes through here probably nearly reaching the train.

Great fun out for anyone. Going inside you see this, evident the Railco. volunteers go to great effort to keep Capella in her original condition…this interior is just a classic old train style and so beautiful to look at with her old curves and lines… / Capella is the last operating D17 Loco in the World

Great fun out for anyone. This painting of a Peace Dove on the ceiling of a small display area in Capella was done by Graham West of Ravenshoe, he also told me alot about the display while wearing his bright Thomas the Tank Engine vest, such a character, who was happy I had taken the time to admire his heartfelt War display.

  • A magnificent sunrise over Ravenshoe, Southern Atherton Tablelands, Far Nth Queensland. Some shadow added which has darkened and brightened the colours, otherwise all natural colour. / / Most of my shots are straight from camera and touched up in Picassa 3 only.

  • FEATURED in One Single Flower On Show The lovely flowers in the main street of Ravenshoe F.N.Q Australia often call me to them since they plant such pretty coloured and unusual flowers there! These are gorgeous and everywhere in various stages of opening. They look like some sort of straw flower being that hard texture that is like dried flowers, I bet they keep for ages, this one is still quite closed, I have more images of them opening out… / / Pink Straw Hat… / / Unfurling Fingers… / / Pink Straw Flower… / As is, from my Canon PowerShot A480

  • 2nd image of these flowers in various stages of opening, taken in the main street gardens of Ravenshoe, Far Nth Queensland, Australia. / Not sure what it is but it has the texture of hard straw, hence this looking like a Pink Straw Hat! / / Flowers Of Ravenshoe… / / Pink Straw Flower… / Taken with a Canon PowerShot A480

  • Are you ready???????? The first 2 weeks in October are very special to the people of Ravenshoe because it is the time of year we celebrate Ravenshoe! / Yes indeedy, we love our town and our heritage so much we celebrate it each year, not for a day or a weekend but for 2 whole weeks! If you live in Far Nth Queensland come up to the beautiful Atherton Tablelands for the day and check out our celebrations being held. Torimba – The Festival of The Forest started out of a love for the town and a love for the timber of Ravenshoe. It is a timber town, or was, and still relies on the rainforests and timber mills to hold our town’s economy together so we say thanks to the forest for providing our town with the essence to survive. In 1982 Ravenshoe went from a logging town to a World Heritage Rainforest declared area overnight with a signature, this changed many peoples lives here forever, lucky enough, when the dust settled the hippies that came to save the rainforest and were the opposition of the folk who had logged timber for generations stayed on and gave the town new life, they managed to integrate the timber life of old into the environmenally aware generation of new and create a town unique in it’s nature to keep the 2 balanced to move forward and that is how I interpret this years theme of Looking Forward, Looking Back… Come and see the amazing Timber Display that is a judged event and draws hundreds of beautiful hand crafted pieces from tables to carved kingfishers, it will truly astound you, these are the best of the best in Australia and the product quality is top notch. This is on at Festival Hall for the whole 2 weeks, I will bring you some of these displays in the next few days. We have our Torimba Queen, a lost artform these days but our girls love it and the Mums pull out all stops to make gowns and help with floats and the Torimba Ball is a sight with all the young and old dressed up in their best for the night. Not forgetting our Miss and Master Torimba too judged last weekend and held by the Kindy. Next weekend the Torimba Parade is held, on Saturday night October 10th and that is fantastic!! This collage I made is of the floats from last year when the theme was Mask. This year the theme is Looking Forward, Looking Back, should have some cool floats for that one! I will be bringing you all the latest from this years Torimba Parade. :O) There is rides for everyone and our local Rowan who always has the Jumping Castle for our kids, everyone comes out and the town is alive with people and party, meeting and seeing everyone, stalls and food, wood chopping, bands, dancing and lots of fun for everyone! Did I say Fireworks?? One of best fireworks displays is on at the end the night too. My Mum from Wollongong was blown away at the whole Parade and Fireworks last year, she couldn’t believe how great it all was put on by a small town, reckoned it was better than any city ones she had seen. The core is the timber and our heritage and we celebrate the forest that sustains us and the people who come here, the friendly lifestyle among folk who wear no shoes, the fresh air and the cheap properties where we can live how we like building mud brick houses, showing our kids nature and growing our vegies while we rejoice in living in the rainforest and bush surrounds. Join us in Ravenshoe for 2 weeks of wonderful wood celebrations at Torimba – The Festival Of The Forest from October 1. Instead of cutting them down now we just look at the trees, but what beautiful trees they are. 2 hours drive up the Atherton Tablelands from Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia.

  • More Fireworks from the Torimba Parade and Festival of the Forest celebrations at Ravenshoe, Far Nth Queensland tonight. / See Let’s Celebrate! / Taken with a Canon PowerShot A480 on Fireworks setting.
