An amazing thing happened Wednesday evening! Misty graduated from kittenhood to Cathood! I was outside, fiddling with an orchid. It started to drizzle so I went back inside, Misty stayed out as there are a number of places she can shelter (she’s only small!). As I went back out a short while later, I heard some birds making frantic noises. I continued walking over toward the glass-house but turned to see what the noise was. I saw Misty making a beeline for the house with a couple of birds hard on her tail. I looked at Misty again; “Oh shit, she’s got a bird in her mouth!” They were making such a racket I figured it must have been one of their chicks. I saw a movement out of the corner of my eye, and thankfully, I ducked as I turned – one of the birds was flying straight at me. That would’ve been a big “ouch” if it had hit me! Meanwhile, Misty’s still making a beeline for the house, fluttering bird in mouth. I’d left the door open as it was a warm evening and I wasn’t planning on being out there for more than a couple of minutes! Needless to say, Misty’s in like Flynn, bird still in mouth. The parents still outside, flying around the verandah in a state of panic. I don’t know where Misty intended to end up but, I caught up with her in the passage just at the far side of the kitchen (we have an open style house – not many doors between the living areas). Buggered if she was gonna let that bird go. Hubby comes out of the study to see what the fuss is about. He “contains” Misty at the spot I caught up with her white I got a plastic bag. He grabbed Misty (who clawed him quite deeply for his nerve in taking her prize), and she finally dropped the bird. While hubby tried to get the bird in a plastic bag (for safe handling reasons), I grabbed Misty and shut her in the laundry – one would have thought she’d been beaten quite badly she was sounding so plaintive, she hadn’t, though! Boy, was she pissed off at us. The bird seemed to be fine, it was making a racket and squirming all over the place, although it didn’t get on it’s feet! Meanwhile, hubby’s spread blood over a few places, but, the bird didn’t appear to be bleeding. He got it into the bag and I took it outside. I let it go over near the fence and went back inside. I closed all the doors (doors and security/flyscreen doors) and curtains so Misty (hopefully) wouldn’t be able to either see or hear the bird. It was dark by this time. I finally let Misty out of the laundry and she went straight to the spot where she’d last seen the bird! Not there – she starts sniffing and looking everywhere for it, while making enquiring noises! Poor pussy. I managed to get outside a while late without her getting out, and went to see if the bird was dead. No bird! Okay, it looks like everything is okay. Even before I got up Thursday morning, she’s making a fuss, she wants OUT! I finally let her out early afternoon. A short while later, I went out, too, don’t know why. I heard a noise and thought, “Oh no, not again!” Turn the corner of the house and, sure enough, she’s got a bird in her mouth, again! This time, I’d closed the door when I went out, so, she’s stuck, she can’t get into the safety of the house. I figured it was the same chick again; the parents were making crazy around the edge of the verandah but, they didn’t come under. Phew, I’m glad they didn’t. It would have been hard to avoid them if they had! So, . . . sitting on the doormat, wanting desperately to go inside, hanging onto the chick for grim death! I managed to get her to drop it without getting clawed. I grabbed her and got her inside. She’s protesting like mad – the bird is on the doormat, and even though she’s inside, she can still see it through the narrow windows either side of the door. She sounds so pathetic, it’s rather funny. A little while later, I open the door, but not the security door, to check on the chick. It’s not moving, I think it’s dead – she had it’s head in her mouth this time. Opening the door was a mistake, she’s frantic by now. Her prize is there but, she can’t get it! Hubby rings up a little while later. After answering his couple of question, I tell him she’s caught the same bird again, and this time, she’s killed it! Why don’t I go and bury it? “Cause I can’t get out of the bloody house – she’s following me around worse than a two-year old who won’t let Mum out of sight.” Okay, he’ll call in on his way to the club and do the deed. He does; she sees him pick it up, but, rather strangely, she didn’t follow him around the house, from window to window. He buries it and then comes inside to wash up (birds are known to carry fleas). she tries desperately to get outside but, we’re both awake up to her. Poor pussy! Even if she finds it, she won’t be able to dig it up – I told him to put one of my heavy terracotta plant pots over the top of it. I wouldn’t let her out of the house again yesterday. I did let her out this morning, and, of course, she went looking for birds! At one stage, I saw her sniffing along every inch of the places she’d dragged it, even the doormat where I’d made her drop it. I’m very glad it was only a Blackbird, a foreign invader which has caused untold harm to our native birds. If sh’ed managed to catch a magpie or raven chick, oh brother, she would have been in really deep trouble. I have to confess, I’m a wee bit proud of her as I didn’t think she’d be able to catch a bird around here – there are enough other cats which roam free all the time and, I figured the birds would be wise enough to stay out any cat’s reach. I can only guess that the one she caught was a very new fledgling! I was pissed off that she brought it into the house, though; however, she was only doing what any cat, large or small, would, taking her prize to a safe place!

Forgotten Where You've Been Featured Collaboration with Raven Soul

I would like to thank for RavenSoul for making these words come to life HERE her extremely beautiful art..This Piece was inspired… by Arrogance when we forget what is in us bad choices that we amke and then judge others the judgement we exhibit is detrimental to our own spiritualism and is” False Judgement” I do not believe there to be any human spirit better than the other. we fall short when we use this thinking and humility is the cure. Judgement it is God’s alone.. When We fall into this thinking and state of being… We are breaking our connection with spirit and more importantly God’s teaching… and God’s Love. / Thoughts for the Day / Remember Compassion Always God Bless Amber Elizabeth Fromm

Well, one of you might be an old blog reader. Aladyx is a friend of mine from DeviantART.com who told me about RedBubble and gave me the link with a link to one of her watercolor pieces. I like this community. I love the way the front page shows artworks, lots of art jumping right out at me. I’ve been active and busy lately. Being a fantasy writer, I never miss “http://www.nanowrimo.org” and the only year I didn’t win it was 2002, when I was too sick and didn’t get started till the 25th. This year I’m about halfway done with my newest novel, Snowflake Obsidian, a fantasy with an equine hero based on a Lipizzan stallion but enchanted, he’s actually become a wizard now and I can’t wait to see how his quest comes out. A month ago, in October, on “http://robertsloan2.livejournal.com” where I usually blog, I started doing a drawing a day for a group called ArtSoMoFo. This led to so many interesting experiments and new directions that I kept it up right into November. I started experimenting with ACEOs around that time or a little earlier, doing colored pencil realism in a size category where I could finish it in a day or so instead of hanging onto it for weeks and years puttering and burnishing and finishing it with the same level of detail on a large piece. I’ve been having fun with it. Then last week I started auctioning on eBay, with the username robertsloan2art—and that’s distracting. I’ve gotten no bids yet, but plenty of reassurance that no one bids till the last day and maybe the last hours when it rolls up onto the front page. They’re getting some views, that’s something that makes me happy. I got all set up over there, joined an ACEO group, made some new friends and have been getting focused on selling my art again. I live on Social Security, but I’m starting a business—my writing and art, working at getting self supporting again so that when I do get a big novel sale or commission it doesn’t get taken out of my check. For years I worked as a street artist in New Orleans, but the physical toll it took on my bad leg and back eventually forced me to retire and after that life got hard for almost a decade. I wound up in homeless shelters and after that banged around staying with friends till my daughter got a house and kids and a new husband, so now I’m living in a good place and have finally gotten past surgery and other health problems to where I think I can build up again to being able to support myself. I know I want to. While the check is in some ways an easy ride, it gets frustrating and it just rubs me wrong that I get penalized for earning. I’ve got one book in print. Raven Dance is available at Amazon, search on title or on Robert A. Sloan author name, it’s a big fat science fiction epic with a black and red cover. I’ve sold a couple of pro stories for big money and am now also getting into doing how to draw articles at “http://www.ehow.com” where you can search on my username robertsloan2 or just skim the Art > Drawing category till you start seeing my name—a lot of my articles make it to the front page on popularity. They vary, but I’m slowly building up a complete drawing course there. I also started working on Street Sketching I: Portraits in 2004, got interrupted by health trouble and life crises but have been steadily rewriting it. I teach art in person and have always been able to get a beginner from zero to selling realistic portraits within six months to a year on meeting with them monthly in a group or one on one. So I had to relearn how to write completely! No plot, no characters, no zingy dialogue and no setting? How do I make a book interesting when it has none of the things that make a novel fun? But it’s coming along now, and the eHow articles have really been giving me a better feel for it. The technique is using pastels or colored Conte crayons on tinted art paper. So there’s an introduction! My self portrait is reasonably accurate in my icon. I’d have used my daughter’s photo, the one I used for a reference, but I thought it’d be cool to use art for an icon. I’ll be posting some art soon… watch for it.
