Images of photographs are being treated as second rate here at Redbubble!

Many of you know that the great majority my work here is in the form of photographs of landscapes. You may not know that this kind of image is not presented to best effect here at Redbubble. They have been sharpened too much and the contrast is increased too, they also do not provide a very large preview of the image. This has hurt the essence of my work and means the hours I spend on it are for nothing. You can’t see what I see at home. I went to Redbubble and complained about this today and the short answer is this, they will do what helps the majority of images. Frankly I don’t think they are helping anybodies images at all. Perhaps this is just a T-shirt site and card boutique, but I don’t think they are helping those images either. Does anybody else feel this way? They just blew me off, after I spent over 400 dollars buying Christmas gifts here today. The quality of the prints is really good, the shirts are great, the cards are cropped too much but a good deal just the same. My beef is I think they are being cheap and won’t admit it when it comes to the presentation of our work. I think it could be addressed but won’t be. $$$ is why. What should I do? Leave? Start a mutiny? Suffer in silence as my work is obscured for no good reason? Let me hear what you think.

I would like a system that let me see and filter the new work stream. This would be a personal and private rating system. I would start on the stream, and rate each work hot +1 or not -1. If an artist got to a certain coldess threshold they would drop out of my stream, if they achieve a certain hotness score then the system offers to let me favorite them. For example I see some stunning street scapes by artist XX and I rate each plus 1 they get a score of say 5 (my threshold) the system offers to favorite them for me. I see some out of focus pet shots shot on a phone cam by artist YY and I rate each -1 they get they get a score of say -6 (my threshold) and they drop out of my view in the new works stream. This system would allow me in viewing the incoming firehose of works to gradually filter out work that I don’t like and to see work that I do like more frequently making the viewing of new works a more rewarding process. Some interesting ideas that could come from hot or not. 1) Combine peoples hotness ratings as another piece of sauce in the ratings mix / 2) Artists improve over time. If I have downgraded an artists work(s) I miss out on seeing this improvement If an artist starts getting better and their overall average hotness starts to go up use this to counteract my coldness rating Bear in mind that whilst this is a rating scheme it is entirely personal to me. No one not the artist or the community gets to see my ratings, it is simply a way for me to filter out the incoming stream of new works.

I was curious about other red bubblers consensus on taking digital images while using a tripod as opposed to handholding. I’m beginning to see an alarming trend that my personal favorite images all are the ones that had camera and lens mounted on the tripod (of course for HDR and long exposures) there is no option anyway. I used to think that I was very good at handholding, but I am beginning to question this. What do you guys do? How are you getting your Keepers?

Another question in relation to your own portfolio pieces. I have several shots that I have thought “Bloody hell thats a good shot, better put it on RB” However when on RB for whatever reason it tends to be overlooked. Which of your shots deserve, in your opinion, a little more exposure?
