Featured in the group “We Are Passionate About Birds of Prey” on 6 Febrruary 2009 ! The golden eagles range is in the mountains, forests and grasslands over much of North America and Eurasia, and North Africa. Its diet consists of ground squirrels, rabbits, deer, and birds. While still inhabiting an extensive range, it has been greatly diminished or lost to many areas. It is protected in most areas, but it is still shot for ‘sport’ or to protect livestock and game birds. An uncommon migrant from Manitoba in the north, some individuals remain here year round, but there are no breeding records. The golden eagle differs from the bald eagle in having feathered legs and lacking the white head. Location: Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
