There’s something very special about the silhouette of Rangitoto. It is almost symmetrical. An island volcano that hasn’t erupted in around 300 years, it is named for the incredible sight at it’s eruption. The sky was red as blood. (rangi means sky, toto means blood) In Auckland, wherever you can see the East coast you can likely see this island. Brought up on Auckland’s North Shore I favour this silhouette. For me it is a homely and warm image. It speaks of quiet beach walks or family picnics.
